I love you peas! I feel like I live in a cave because I had no idea it was in reference to a medical term. I know I've used it before, like when my dog did the zoomies. Thank you for the education.

It is very offensive.
It's been a long time since I've heard it used - probably 25+ years or more.

I’ve heard of the word but couldn’t tell you what it means nor could I tell you a time when I’ve heard it actually used. Maybe it’s my age (42)? Edited to add: google tells me in mean inept. 🤷🏼♀️I can’t think of a time someone I knew used it. I'm slightly older than you and I remember it being used. It was slang for clumsy. I definitely find it offensive now.

I never realized this word has medical origins and could be offensive until I made a very good friend with epilepsy. I used the word around him and he educated me quickly about why it's one more word you shouldn't use. I was shocked but I have done my best since then to remember that it isn't something kind and to remove it from my vocabulary.

I personally never used spazz but I did used to use retarded. As in 'stop acting retarded'. My mom used to say it to us all the time. She's a very kind and gracious lady who never swore or cursed but she did use that phrase. Everyone did growing up.
It wasn't until some young scrapbooker was quoted in Creative Memories as using the word and the uproar over the use of the word that I learned it was considered a slur. I had never equated the two to be honest. Those threads and that controversy opened my eyes and I'm glad its no longer used.
I remember the band Spazmatics, they were a goofy nerdy group and again, I connect that word with them, goofiness and not the medical diagnosis.
Interesting the way these words have evolved.
Ed to add, out of curiosity I googled the Spazmatics and they are currently on tour with their whole goofy act. Hm. I wonder how that's going to go over. I mean. IDK. They've been that band and had that identity for years. Guess time for a name change?
