In early July, you recommended the Inspector Gamache series by Louise Penny. I had just finished reading a 10-book very light mystery series and was ready for something new when you posted about this series.
I am loving it! I am currently 3/4ths of the way through book four right now. And I am learning a small amount of French too. I have to look up every French word. I don’t know what future use I will have for them, but I enjoy learning anything new.
I just want to say Thank You for sharing this series! If anyone else is looking for a good mystery series, this one might work for you too. It is set in Quebec, hence all the French, and features a lead detective, Gamache, and most occur in a little quaint town called Three Pines. The murders are not extremely gruesome and The Who-Done-It is not obvious 1/4 of the way in as in some mystery books.

Aw, thank you. I am still reading the series as well. I have had to read some out of sequence, but I can manage that.
The author is quite good at hiding the clues in other dialogue.
However, just this morning, I was wondering about the inspiration for Clara and having that character have food in her hair.

I added this series to my book list as well from that previous post, but I haven’t started yet. I’m excited to though and may move it up on my list now.

When I finish this series, I am going to try to read all the books that received the Agatha award for the various years. That is how I stumbled upon this series.

The Sandhamn murders by Viveca Sten. The series is set on an Island off the coast of Sweden. It was also made into a TV series. I had a few issues with the way the author depicted the leading female in the series. They are light books that are a quick read. I felt the murder was too obvious in several of the books though. The series that librarylady recommended is far superior in my opinion.
