Are embossing folders among the tools you use (whether always, usually, sometimes, or rarely) when creating layouts? If so, please share your preferred way to use them on your pages. TFS.

I make very few layouts (less than one every two years), but I do use embossing folders on cards quite often.

I don't use them very often on pages, but on occasion I do if the folder fits the theme.
I like the look of embossed backgrounds on cards, but don't use them as often as I could: i tend to get all wrapped up in putting the design together and forget to emboss the background. Sometimes for batch cards I do a bunch of pieces at once and those I actually use.

I struggle to remember I have embossing folders, which is sad because I do like the look. They're *right there* too, in the drawer literal inches from my chair. Don't even have to bend down to reach them! Yet I still forget.

I said no. I'm at a loss on how to use them on layouts. All of my embossing folders are "card-sized" - they don't take up much room on the layout so where to put them?
I could probably use them as a backdrop for a cluster. I could even die cut the embossed paper, but it seems like a lot of work for a layout, they might get lost in all the other stuff I throw on there.
This might be a good challenge! LOL

Back in the day when I paper scrapped I had a few QuicKutz 2x2 embossing dies. I used them to add texture to Titles or some other element like photo corners. But it wasn't a regular thing for me.

I selected yes but it's pretty rare and if I do use them it's sparingly. Maybe for a textured background on a smaller layer. I'd like to use them more.

Mostly I forget I have them. I think I would struggle to find a way to use them on a layout.

I said no on using them for traditional layouts but I have used them on pocket page spreads on occasion.

I don’t think I have ever done that, but maybe some day?

i got rid of most of my embossing folders but have just a few that go with their specific dies. i also have a few of back ground ones (wood textured and some with shapes i can fussy cut).

I don’t use them frequently but most often to add interest and subtle texture to mat a photo. I have also used them on tiled layouts to add texture to vary some of the shapes: hexagons, diamonds, circles, squares.

I answered yes but now that I think more about it, I really only use them to emboss plain cardstock for pocket scrapping, to add a little interest.

While I have used them in the past, it’s been a long time, so I marked “No” on this one. When I did use them, I embossed die cut letters, banners, or other die cut embellishments.
I should pull them out and start using them again.

When I did use them, I embossed die cut letters, banners, or other die cut embellishments. I don't use them nearly enough, but I did manage to on my last layout by adding texture to some punched shapes and I really liked the look. It's definitely something I need to do more of.

I just used one this weekend! I cut a bracket/label "spot" with one, then dry embossed it, then chalked the raised portions. The folder was floral, and it was on a layout about our front bed flowers this year.

If/when I emboss something, it's for a card, not a scrapbook page. Even then, it's not very often. I do like the look, but a) I have very few embossing folders, and b) I have to do them by hand since I don't use the type of die-cutting that takes embossing folders.

I couldn't even tell you the last time I embossed something.
Guess I know which machine and tools can get donated! 😆

Thanks for your responses &/or participation in the poll. Given the results, it's not surprising scrapbook companies no longer include embossing folders in collections. On occasion I use embossing folders (e.g. stripes, grid, dots, woodgrain) to add texture or interest to solid cardstock photo mats, diecut shapes, or layers.

I used one on a layout today - probably the first time I have (I use them on cards).

I use them all the time! I make a bunch in white, black or kraft and then color later. I do like to run oxide over the embossing folder on the emboss or deboss side and then put the paper in. The effect is awesome! Mindy Egan has a great video on youtube showing this technique. You can then take and cut the embossed paper into rectangles, squares whatever! I like the 3D effect of embossing folders!

I don’t use them often but I love the look of texture on my pages so I have used embossing folders for that. I recently did a page where I put several 12” long strips of embossed patterned paper (you have to run it 3 times to get the whole 12 x 12 length) it looked like almost the whole page was embossed, just gorgeous! Also I like doing grid layouts sometimes and I like to emboss the squares in the grid background

I mostly use embossing folders on die cuts. I have a swirly one that makes cute sheep or adds texture to hair, I have bricks and stone, I like my clouds to have a little dimension. Woodgrain I use a fair amount. A lot of my pages are from when my daughter was little so they are kind of cutesy with animals and paper dolls and that just feels appropriate for all the textures.

I answered no, because I haven't - but I have bought a couple and never think about them. It may be time to give them a try.

So very seldom that I voted "No". I only have a few and I'm not even sure where they are right now.
