So I'm still interested in the demographics here. I'm always telling my dad about the NSBR food threads and word threads where everyone disagrees with each other, or has never heard of something. I love the differences we all have.
For example: I had no idea that shredded chicken sandwiches were an Ohio thing until I came here. I thought everyone ate them.
So I thought I'd poll the scrapping side of this board. What country do you live in?
I'm from the US and eating my shredded chicken sandwich (and scrapping) in Ohio.

Nebraska, but that doesn’t tell the whole story. I grew up in Los Angeles, lived most of my adult life in different southern states & Texas until moving here. So my experience isn’t only based on where I live now.

It's so weird to me that when you ask Americans what country they live in, they sometimes only reply with the state! Granted almost every one is big enough to *be* a middling-sized country on its own. It'd just never cross my mind to reply with my home province/territory to a country of origin question.
Canada-land over here. <--- *points at sidebar*

I'm not going to tell you where I live, it's a secret. I had no idea that shredded chicken sandwiches were an Ohio thing until I came here. I thought everyone ate them. What's the magic ingredient in an Ohio shredded chicken sandwich that makes it unique? I make shredded chicken sandwiches for lunch every week.

I'm not from here, but I live in western Washington State (the other Washington, not the one they mean when they talk about Washington on the news 🙄).

Another Aussie pea here. It's so weird to me that when you ask Americans what country they live in, they sometimes only reply with the state! Granted almost every one is big enough to *be* a middling-sized country on its own. It'd just never cross my mind to reply with my home province/territory to a country of origin question. I remember one of those reddit threads that was a group of non-Americans pointing out things that seem to be uniquely American, and this was one that I've really noticed as being true. We also have states large enough to be countries (heck, we have cattle stations larger than European countries), but even so we tend to respond Australia if asked while travelling overseas, sometimes even to other Aussies.

South-east of France here, Mediterranean Sea harbour city. Okay, you are just bragging. Those photos are lovely. I’m in WA and have no idea what a shredded chicken sandwich is- like pulled pork I guess? It is, but the Ohio recipe usually includes: Cream of chicken, cream of celery, or cream of mushroom soup (because it isn't Midwestern unless you add canned soup- see Green Bean Casserole) and Ritz crackers or stuffing mix. Basically, you just mix it all together. What's the magic ingredient in an Ohio shredded chicken sandwich that makes it unique? I make shredded chicken sandwiches for lunch every week. If you type shredded chicken sandwich into Google, a good chunk of the recipes actually call it Ohio Chicken Sandwiches. The magic ingredient is unhealthy, sodium-laden canned soup. I know it sounds gross but they are delicious.

I think it is because: 1) Americans are, unfortunately, very self-centered. It is like we forget that the rest of the world exists. And 2) the country is so vast that the culture from one state to the next is very different. Vermont's culture is very different from Florida's, which is very different than Ohio's, which is very different that Texas's, which is very different than California's, which is very different from Wyoming's. This Ohioan gets a little culture shock every time I leave Ohio. I've been to 40+ states and some of them are like going to a totally different country. Of course, the same thing could be said for Canada. I've been to several provinces. Nova Scotia is very different from Quebec. So Americans are just weird.

I like to have something creamy and something crunchy in mine, so you've hit the spot!

That's very true! I also think that a lot of non-Australians wouldn't know most of our states. I reckon if we were overseas and said we were from Victoria or New South Wales or Queensland, some people would think we meant somewhere in the UK!

My take on the American's identifying the states they live in. 75% of the respondents in this poll are American. If I meet another American and we do the "oh, you're American too?" we don't just leave it at that. We then ask what state they are from. I wouldn't find it odd if a Canadian said Canadian, from Alberta. It just drills it down for context.

I’m an American living in Belgium, although I move back to the States next month. Two pack days are done, 2 more to go next week.
