katybee - how's it going? I hope you're enjoying the school and your colleagues and of course, your students. Can't wait to see pix of your classroom.

katybee my son started 5th grade, which is middle school here. He's switching classes every period and getting used to a new building, new cafeteria, new teachers, new kids (although he knows quite a few from last year), and new schedules and subjects. It’s hard for him and for me as a worried mama, but his teachers have been wonderful. I’m sure you’re in that same category— helping them because they are still kids but giving them good foundation and instruction to become independent. It’s a tough age and I can’t imagine a classroom full of them! One is hard enough!! Good to hear it’s going well. I know you’ll do great and figure out the age difference. Teachers are amazing and the grade change thing is a little bump in the road. You’ve got this! Keep us posted with how things are going and let us know if there are supplies or books you need. I have a selfish reason too because books your sixth graders are into might be good for my fifth grader! Help you get books and gets me some ideas!!😁 😂 Refupea power to you my friend !

katybee, I am thinking of you this morning! (((hugs))) I’ll bet that it is a ton of work to shift to 6th grade standards and lesson plan for all of them. Not to mention learning the curriculum well enough to teach it. Math and Language Arts, in particular. The content is quite different and you can't just pull out the activities that you used for years as a third-grade teacher. It must feel like you have almost as much work as you did as a first-year teacher. I am holding you in my head and heart! I wish that we lived closer - I would insist on a Friday night Happy Hour. 🥰

Ok, I'm getting really concerned about our friend katybee.Have't heard a thing from her since August 30 and she last checked in here on Oct 2 but hasn't posted since late August. DOES ANYONE KNOW IF SHE'S ALIVE AND WELL? I texted her yesterday expressing concern and haven't heard back. Hoping she's okay!!

That is very odd, considering that you spent such a nice time w/her. I hope that katybee is doing well and just very busy.

Perhaps things aren’t going well with her brother (I hope that’s not the case, though) and between care and concern for him and the new move and job she’s just busy dealing with everything.

I am friends with her on Facebook and another pea asked about her so I went to look at her page - she stopped posting on Facebook and Instagram in October 2022. Before that she posted quite a bit. I sent her a message via FB messenger and it looks like her account has seen it - but no reply. I hope everything is okay with her.

Hugs to katybee. I hope that all is well with her brother, her 6th grade classroom, and with her. It must be overwhelming for her - such a huge move and then having to teach a whole new-to-her curriculum. I hope that she checks in when she has time and knows that we are thinking of her and sending good wishes.

I’m worried too. I was just watching a documentary about Calif schools and I thought of her. Was hoping she had responded. 😕

Checked this thread due to another thread. I am sure katybee is overwhelmed. As a teacher anytime you start a new grade level (or in MS or HS a new course) and a new school you are typically working 60-70 hours a week. Just saying a teacher worth their salt just does this! If her brother is also experiencing life issues, the last thing she has time for is to be on social media. Prayers for her, her students, and her family. We can be nosy but right now she is probably just trying to survive day to day!
