I just figured out that I have a $600 flight credit on Alaska Air that will expire in 3 days - so I need to book something asap! Due to conflicting schedules/work/school and the fact that I would love to squeeze in a quick get away the end of this month I am looking at traveling solo. I’m thinking of like a 4 night trip. I don’t think I have ever done a completely solo trip.
curious if you travel solo, don’t travel solo, like it, don’t like it…and where you would go. I have something in mind just curious for other opinions.
Update! - well this is now a moot point - I mentioned my plan to my 20yo and he was like “plan a trip when my summer classes are over and I’ll go with you!”
Sooooo we are finally going to Yellowstone! My kid is a Biochemistry and Microbiology major (and a double major with marine biology ie on the five year plan lol) and a HUGE naturalist…he is so excited to see the geothermal wonders of Yellowstone, not to mention the hiking and wildlife. We have planned and cancelled Yellowstone literally like 3 times but this time it is ON (flights booked: into Bozeman and out of Jackson) in less than 2 weeks!
Any last minute tips appreciated- planning to start in northern part of park and work our way down with final night in GTNP. Booked flights will do lodging this evening.

I did my first completely solo trip in April, I went to Savannah, GA. My DH passed away a little less than 3 years ago and I retired last October. If I don't go solo, I'll never get to all of the places I'd like to go. Savannah was a great starting point for me. I enjoyed myself and never felt lonely. When I felt like I wanted to socialize I went out and sat at the bar and talked to the bartender or other "singles" sitting at the bar.
My next solo trip will most likely be in February - I'm hoping to travel to FL and get away from the cold MI weather!
I hope you go and have a wonderful time.

DH and I have done solo trips off and on since we first married in 1977. Best thing ever! I like the break from everyone and the chance to do/see things that appeal to just me. I'm currently plotting something for later this year once this remodel is done, just not sure where I want to go yet. Have a great time on your trip!

You can do a fun trip. Go somewhere that will invigorate you, give you some peaceful time and fill the time w/things you love to do. I would use it as an opportuntiy to try new, local food places and in your case, find some fun adventure in the great outdoors.
The world is your oyster or if it's just for a few days...the USA is your oyster!

Not quite solo, but due to timing issues, I was alone for 3 days on an international trip. I enjoyed it! I made sure to do the things I knew the others in my party did not care to do. I've never had a problem with eating out alone, so dining alone in restaurants was not a problem for me. The only down part was that I couldn't share my excitement at experiencing some things with someone else.

It's averaging out to be about twice a year that I go into NYC alone, stay in a hotel and see a Friday show, a Saturday matinee, a Saturday evening show and a Sunday matinee.
I LOVE IT. I eat when I want; I sleep when I want. I'm totally anonymous. It's the best.

I go alone all the time.. and have done it forever.
I am driving to seattle by myself next week, then on the 30th, I am camping at mt rainier for a night and then, given good weather, will go backpacking for a couple of nights by myself. going to an event, then driving back. even when my kids were young, I went to europe by myself for a month. this was before cellphones..I called home twice. I drove cross country by myself, and have always been independent. one of the best backpacking trips I took as a young adult was about 45 miles alone across the north cascades. people know where I plan to be.

That's not something that I/we would normally do, but I would in your situation. It would be a terrible shame to let airline credits expire unused! Have fun!

My husband and I both travel solo as well as together. It gives us a chance to pursue some of our individual interests. Heck, I just love to travel. I’ll go any way I can - solo, with spouse, with friends, in a group, anything!

I've been traveling for 20+ years for work solo, so I technically do it a lot. I've only done a few personal trips solo, but I'm not opposed to it. I just spend a lot of time alone already. haha! I DO think a trip alone can be highly beneficial, especially to women. It gives you a sense of independence that I strongly recommend!

I do do a lot of traveling without my spouse. And my favorite trips are ones where I have some solo time - I was just in Asheville and I had a vrbo to myself (heaven!) but my 18yo was also there (staying in different location) so we met up for meals, hikes etc.
I justdon’t think I’ve ever done a trip completely solo.

I’ve done it for work several times and was okay with it, both driving and flying. I prefer to travel with certain other people though, it makes the journey more fun. My best, most compatibly travel friend moved out of state though so that makes me sad. I think my DH has gone somewhere totally solo only once since we’ve been married. He definitely prefers traveling with others, either family or friends or both.

I've taken trips with DH and different girlfriends, but never alone. (college doesn't count)
Now that you mention it.....sounds like a lovely idea!

My first solo trip was 5 years ago. I met my mother in Poland (she flew there earlier) and we spent a week there with distant relatives. Then I spent 4 days in Krakow, Poland alone in an airbnb apartment I'd rented so I could explore the city while she stayed with the relatives, and I flew on to Bavaria, Germany for a 2 week solo train tour changing cities every two days. DH couldn't get the time off work so I went alone. I had a blast and honestly in many ways it was the best trip of my life.
If my bank account would allow it I'd do many more solo trips all of the time. They are amazing for building your independence and sense of self. I'm an introvert though, so I don't mind all of that time alone, but it's also true that you meet amazing people while traveling alone. While in Salzburg one night at dinner I met a very nice family from Hong Kong who invited me to join their table. Another night while in a town in Germany I met a young woman doctor who was also travelling alone. We were each eating dinner alone, but after eating we lingered over our drinks and talked for almost 2 hours together. It was a wonderful time. We had a very interesting conversation about the differences in medical care between the two countries.
Plan your trip and have a fantastic time!

I love to do solo trips. My DH travels a lot for work, and at times is away for two or three weeks in a row, and I will go somewhere alone for a long weekend or a week (depending on other commitments). Just before Covid, I travelled to Ulm (near Stuttgart) by train alone for 4 days, and in April this year I went to Brussels for 5 days as there was an art exhibition there I wanted to see. I have also done a couple of trips back home to Australia alone, but that is different as I am normally staying with family when I get there - it's just the flights that I am doing solo.

Since my husband died, I've traveled about 5 hours away by myself, but it was to visit one of my daughters, so just the traveling was alone. Once I got there, I stayed with her. I've also traveled to another daughter's house, about 3 hours away. I don't like to stay in a motel by myself, so when I traveled to my other daughter's home, someone went with me.

My first solo trip was to Walt Disney World a few years after my divorce when my kids were with their dad on a cruise to Mexico. I enjoyed it fine, but determined I prefer to not travel solo. That being said I'll still do it over not traveling at all. Thankfully I have a retired mother and a couple grown kids who like to travel. Last year I went on a 4 day trip to San Diego when my now grown kids were in Hawaii with their dad.

I have traveled solo to many places all over the world and have done many solo cruises. You can do your own thing and not wait for someone else who is being lazy.
Refreshing freedom.
Iceland was amazing as well as a 2 week Europe river cruise & several Carribean cruises.

I used to travel solo quite a bit for work. Now, rarely. My favorite place to go was Chicago — great restaurants, shows, and hotels with great spas.

I don't have it in me to travel solo. Unless it's to be ferried to the airport and back & to the hotel. I'm not good with city traffic. I've always admired others who do.

Yes! I love to go on marathon shopping trips, used to do this with my mom and aunt but since they are gone I do it alone. A few weekends ago I took a 3 day trip to Philly just to shop. I loved it I've never done anything longer than a long weekend though.

Yes! I love traveling alone. I also camp alone, and like solo road trips. This reminds me that I really need to take a trip sometime soon. I love my DH and sons, and there's no better way to reinforce that than by getting away and being on my own to refresh and renew for a while.

I have never and would never vacation by myself. I might travel to meet-up with people, but never to vacation by myself.
My DH and my likes/dislikes are so similar, I can’t imagine him missing-out on someplace I went by myself.
I think it’s great for some; just not me.

I've never done it before at not sure that it appeals to me.
I am a naturally introverted person and I can see myself just holed up in a hotel room reading or watching Netflix. Which is not what I should be doing.
I like being alone when I shop where I live but I think I am a bit of a scaredy cat to travel the world alone.

Not really... I did do a painting workshop a few years ago by myself and I spent a weekend about 3 hours away in Birmingham. That was fun.
I want to go on a mountain biking or cycling trip, but I'm a little nervous about being alone and possibly getting injured.

Yes to visit family (8 hour drive) but if it's a vacation, no.

I used to. Since DH retired, I haven't. I would often fly out early for business trips and stay the weekend before my work started on Monday getting to explore whatever city I was in. Or sometimes I took a pure vacation on my own. The latter were all driving trips. The plus side is getting to do exactly as you please, the downside is no one to share a great experience or memory with. If you have the opportunity, I vote to go and have fun.

In 2018 I took my first solo road trip, that wasn't a local day trip.
I drove to the beach. First time driving myself more than 100-ish miles alone. I loved it. I was so proud of myself.
I would love to do more solo travels, once my finances recover (my saving took a huge hit and drain, because slow business-less hours-less income during the last 2.5 years of the covid pandemic). Currently trying to rebuild.
