I can’t skip rinsing. Toothpaste makes me gag and want to vomit as it is. I can’t leave it in my mouth. I think it’s a holdover from my pregnancies and hyperemesis gravidum. I vomited and brushed my teeth so often that I think the two are now permanently associated. I can’t use mint toothpaste for the same reason. I’m usually ok with cinnamon but had a hard time finding it last time I ran out.

I've never rinsed in my life. I didn't even know that was a thing.

I always rinse and I never have cavities so I'll continue to get that nasty toothpaste out of my mouth.
Plus, it's minty and it burns (Crest with Scope).
I always drink a lot of water after I brush and rinse.

I read about this a few years ago, ever since then I spit, but I don't rinse.

Always rinsed since I used an antibacterial mouthwash after brushing. This was directed by my dentist. Now with braces I have so much metal in my mouth I have to floss, brush, rinse and use a prescription mouthwash at least three times a day. Tooth brushing has become a career. I’m not a good braces person. I brush twice a day and floss every other day. Flossing with braces is so much longer than without! Lol. I had a cleaning last month and was told I’m doing great and teeth looked better than they did before I got my braces on! Next time I go to the ortho, she’s putting brackets on my molars because they’re shifting now. Grrrr! I only had them on the 8 teeth top and bottom front.

I have not read responses yet but I use a fluoride mouthwash. I definitely rinse the toothpaste out then use the fluoride mouthwash. Are those of you doing this not using fluoride mouthwash?

I don't use a cup or glass to intake water to rinse with, but as others mentioned, I rinse my brush a few more times and basically go back over everything to rinse off all of the remaining toothpaste & such. To me, the act of brushing is to remove particles from my teeth, so if I leave some of the paste on my teeth, then I'm leaving some of those particles as well. That sounds like something I'd want to avoid. I've never asked my dentist how I should brush, and except for reminding me to use an extra soft brush because apparently I tend to over do it in the same 2 spots in my mouth, they always say I'm doing a good job. So the only reason I could see to try anything different would be to try to conserve additional water. But I'd have to get past my first point in order to do that. Maybe only rewet the brush once instead of a few times?? But, honestly, at this point, I'm just going to keep going about things in my same old way.

Okay...so I didn't read this thread the first time around, but came here just now from the link it the newest thread about not rinsing...haha. For me, nope. I'll rinse, and rinse. I mean, presumably you're brushing to get rid of food, right? So what if there are food bits that you've just brushed and now they're still in your mouth? . The whole idea of brushing is to get rid of any food that's lingering. I suppose if the experts are saying that it's good to have some toothpaste linger for awhile afterwards.... well in that case I wouldn't be opposed to rinsing everything out from the main brushing, then putting a small bit of toothpaste on my brush and swishing it around again. lol

True story!! My dentist told me to stop rinsing. You get used to it in a couple of days.

I got these flosser things called Platypus for braces, makes it pretty quick and efficient. Well they did until I got new giant wires last week and can't use the flosser on some teeth on the bottom, but at least not all. Still better than regular flossing.
Good luck with your new brackets. I am 100% bracketed so feel your pain.

I saw you mention platypus on another post. I just use the floss threaders. Off to search up platypus flossers.

Fluoride is added to mains water in some areas of the UK, that's been happening since 1960s.

I have been trying to remember to leave the paste on my teeth, but that habit is VERY HARD TO BREAK!
