I stopped at my local Walgreens store at 2:45 pm today (Saturday) and they were closed.

The German word for turtle/tortoise (there's only the one) translates literally as "shield-toad". I just find it kind of hilarious the thought that some proto-Germanic person came across a turtle, poked it and went, "what shall we call this thing, ah yes... shielded toad!"

This was a pleasant small thing surprise: We stayed overnight in Ogallala, Nebraska. We went to a gas station the next morning and when I got out, I might have yelled enthusiastically "Alabama!" when I saw the Alabama license plate we needed for our game of license plate bingo. The older gentleman filling up his work truck at the pump next to my husband asked if we had been traveling and asked about the gas prices across the country. At this point, I went into the convenience store because I KNEW I did not want to hear the conversation that came next. I was completely wrong! This guy told my husband that he "cares about the environment a whole lot" and knows "we have to do something about global warming" but he doesn't like these gas prices one bit. And that he'd like to get a battery powered truck but his buddy who owns a towing company in Grand Island, NE tows several Teslas off the interstate every day because they don't account for how much running the ac depletes battery life.

The 109 total person didn’t drive a Tesla but she did mention the AC draining her battery. I was telling her how turning on the heated seats in the winter kept draining the battery in our car. It made a world of difference when we turned that off.

We drove six miles with DHs phone on the top of the car. Fortunately it was stuck on with a mixture of beeswax and propolis. (He uses his phone case as his wallet. He was lucky!)

I went to the ER on Tuesday morning and was treated better than I could have expected. Everyone was very kind and compassionate. My only gripe, if I had to have one, I’d that they didn’t give me a call button. I was able to wave someone down when I need the restroom though. I received an email survey and happily gave them high scores. This was at 4:45 am so at the end of an overnight shift too.

My sister was in the hospital a couple months ago. I went and stayed with her because she wanted to be sure she had help for going to the bathroom or trying to walk.
It was 4 days. Even with the staffing shortages everything she was prescribed or needed was done on time and done correctly. We didn’t tell them I was a nurse til the last day.
Her night shift nurse was even dating a guy my nephews went to school with.
I am shocked by the people on planes. I know I shouldn’t be after Covid. I only fly a couple times a year though.

My allergies are kicking my butt right now, especially pain in my right ear. I was pleasantly surprised when I looked at my calendar for the week and saw that I have an appointment with an ENT this week. I made the appointment months ago and forgot the exact date.

Last night we were sitting in the front yard with my son and his wife. All of a sudden, the motion light went on on the side of the house. My son asked if it went on often, I said yes and my husband said no, only when it is windy. My son and I got up to look. There was a bear walking along side of our house looking for the apple tree. I whipped an apple from the ground back into the dark from where he had come and then we heard cracking and rustling. We high tailed it out of the area not knowing if the bear was startled or pissed. When we got back to the safety of the garage, my son said, "Dang, I forgot rule number one when being chased by a bear. Knock the other person down before you start running." I was surprised by the actual bear. Not by what my son said.
