Affordable? Maybe to buy the house, but the amount of work it needs could easily cost that much over again.

6 bedrooms and 1.5 baths! That's a chunk of change to add a bathroom or two.

Hope somebody with lots of money and a desire to restore it buys the house. I’d love to see it after if this happens.

I’d say “needs work” is an understatement. Certainly could be beautiful though.

My bet is the buyer will tear it down and put up a McMansion which is sad. That house has so much potential

i think it has potential. with $300k to renovate, i think it could turn into something special. even at $650k all, it might be worth it because of the land you also get with it. i guess it really depends of the surrounding area and it's potential value after the improvements.

It has a lot of potential, if someone has the money necessary to completely renovate, add bathrooms, update the kitchen.
I love the exposed brick walls inside the home. I like the amount of land. I like the outside buildings.
Personally, it's not open floor plan enough, for me.

Beautiful house! I was interested until I saw “Cesspool”.

This could be an outstanding home, but it is going to need a heavy duty redo. There is a couple that have a website about a gorgeous old home in Northern California that was in aged condition, but nowhere near this bad. They bought it and posted photos and blogged about the process of redoing it. They did all the work themselves, despite having full-time jobs. It was fun to see the house undergoing all the changes and some of the furniture they found for it.

Affordable? Maybe to buy the house, but the amount of work it needs could easily cost that much over again. Probably at least 2x that, but on 5.5 acres and 4000 sf? Still a bargain.

It would be very expensive but I absolutely love it. Not the bathrooms, that whole plan would need to be reconfigured; but I love old houses and would be very happy there.
Not a project I would want to take on but I hope someone does!

To me, it looks like most of the ghost-inhabited houses on those TV re-enactments shows. The new owner always falls in love with its "potential."

The price history is weird! I have to laugh at all the rooms with furniture sitting there as if the walls weren't falling down all around it.

Drew Barrymore's movie "Grey Gables" came to my mind.

Be still my beating heart! I love it! I would love to take this on. (I also have the education & work experience to do it). I think restoring this house will be more in the $500k - $1M budget. Finding people with the required skills & experience will be tough too. This house is a gem. I hope it’s structurally sound enough to make it worth someone’s time & investment. Wish it could be me.

Potential? Maybe, now with all the remote work.
But Salem us a sort of depressed area with few jobs. Whom ever could has moved to DE since Salem nearly there already why pay NJ taxes?
It’s a really beautiful area nature wise.

My husband would love to buy this as a project! I don't think I could stand the process, I like everything new and updated in our house so the slowly renovating would make me bonkers!

I like it and if I had the knowledge and my youth back.. and money.. I think I would love to restore something like this. As long as the bones are good. Needs some bathrooms of course.
I can't imagine people actually living in it!! kinda scary to me.. at night.
