When the hobby was young and conventions started I rarely missed attending the local PDX CKC. My favorite scrappy buddies-Mom and Sis would make a weekend of the event. Eventually we stopped going to the crops and then classes as they were not worth the $$. Then of course Covid! There is one in the suburbs of Portland and my Mom and I are considering going. So are there any reviews from Peas?

I went to the one in April in IL. It wasn't as amazing as they used to be, but I wasn't unhappy I went. I went by myself and didn't do any classes or crops. I just wanted to shop and see what they were like now. The companies and products weren't as main stream as they used to be (more LSS and small companies), the selections for the "big" brands were hit or miss, and it seemed heavy on booths with pre-designed page kits, which aren't really my thing. There were some lines I was hoping to see in person and they weren't there. That can all vary from show to show since the vendors aren't always the same, though.
That said, I still enjoyed the day, and even wished I'd gotten there a bit earlier in the morning so I would have had more time. Since it was a little smaller, I didn't feel rushed, and I enjoyed browsing and taking my time to look through booths. I didn't have to stand in 15 minute lines to pay, and there was plenty of room to look around without feeling crowded and rushed or bumping into people constantly. Vendors had time to talk to you and help you find things or answer questions. I found some smaller companies that I'd never heard of, and I've continued to keep an eye on them since. I bought some things I wouldn't otherwise, and I've enjoyed them. I saw that The Ton stamps was exhibiting, which did kind of help me decide to go. I always think their stuff is pretty, but I never actually bought any, and I loved getting to see their products in person, and the make and takes for their booth were really fun.
Things have definitely changed, but overall it was ok and I'd go back for a day next year.

I haven't been to a convention in about 12-14? years.
The last couple conventions I went to, there weren't as many booths and the companies that had booths..... had all older product and nothing new. It felt like they were only at the convention to try to get rid of >> sell older merchandise. As well as, there were a lot more stamping booths than scrapbooking booths. I stopped attending.

I went to CKC Lancaster the end of July. Spent so much money it's a crime. Very little older product. Go and support it. Lots to buy, good crops and classes.

I went last year and enjoyed it. Spent way too much money. I am not going this year due to company coming. I would like to see more advanced scrapbook layouts next year.

I did. It was worth it to me but I only took one class (Mudd Puddles). Cons - too many premade layouts for my taste. Classes were not really to my taste (my favorites were not there this year - Queen & Co). Hours felt too short - I didn’t want to take time from shopping to take a class. Pros - lots of booths with new product. Variety was good (bling, sparkles, stamps, die cuts, paper). People were great. Prices were very good. Felt like 2019 again to me! I would say it’s worth a try. I don’t know how much it would cost for you to get there but for me admission and parking was about the price of a movie, and I hadn’t gone in so long that the class cost and shopping spend was reasonable to me. I hope if you go you have a great time!

Thanks for the feedback! The conventions were trending towards pre-made kits, which sometimes work for me but not usually. Especially the ones with odd size photos. We are thinking about the technique crop over the party crop? Anyone attend the technique crop?

I went to the Mesa Expo last year and did it all. Make and Take Thursday night was fun. I use it as a warm up for the weekend. I took a few classes which I mostly enjoyed. Three were held in an auditorium and was not comfortable at all! The crops were fun. We decorated and dressed up.
I also did the CK convention in March of this year. Again I did the Thursday night technique crop. We got a shopping preview too. Classes were good. I was just wanting to support all the vendors. CKC is more relaxed than the Expo.
Shopping was fine. Enough said about that. Great deals in the evenings especially on Thursday night. Have fun!

Haven't done a CKC in a while, I heard the one local to me was good. A lot of the vendors from Expo left and went to CKC.
I did Edison Expo a couple weeks ago, all 3 days of cropping. Vendors were much smaller, but I still found plenty and new to me things. Mostly stamping/cardmaking, not a lot of scrapbooking. But again, there were still interesting things, new things. I had a great time and got so much scrapping done. I keep meaning to type up a review post...one of these days.
I think maybe just reading reviews/facebook and keeping expectations in perspective is good. But yea, always a fun time to support the small vendors.

I went to GASC (now part of CKC) in June and am planning on going to Scrapbook Expo in October.
Definitely fewer vendors than previous years and I didn't take any classes or do the crops. I'm glad I went though as I still found products to spend my money on and I want to support those vendors who keep coming back! I don't usually buy the pre-made layout kits but this year there was a vendor that had a WWE Wrestling pre-made layout kit and I have never seen anything WWE related in scrapbooking so I bought it! My son loves wrestling and as a family it is something we enjoy doing together. I always find the most obscure themes at the conventions which is another reason I love going.

I went to the one in IL back in April. I took one class on alcohol markers. With the closing of the LSS around me it is one of the few chances to see products in person. I still prefer to see and "feel" product in person. Shopping online just isn't the same.
