Would love to hear about your experience. I’m teaching my cat and its been fascinating. PM me if you have a social media account to share, and I can share mine.
(For those unfamiliar, it’s using buttons and teaching your pet each one - then they “talk” by pushing their buttons)

I absolutely think my dog could learn to press buttons associated with wants or needs, since I easily taught her to ring a bell when she needs to go outside. I don't know about talking to me. I already talk for her all the time so it already feels like she's talking to us But I have a hard time believing my cats could or would be able to do that consistently. The only button that they'd be interested in would be the one for Temptations. One cat does ring the bells trying to get us to let him into the basement, so he's capable of that much, but I'm not sure he has anything else to say to me. Please keep us updated!

Keep us posted with your results! I’ve always been fascinated by the videos I’ve seen of people who have done that with their pets but I think it would take more time than I’d be willing to devote to the training.
LOL, maybe I just need two buttons for my poodle, one that says “Poop!” and one that says “Pee!” since the little jerk never lets me know when she needs to go out. The little thing was so skittish when we got her that there was no way we could even bell train her. I’d ring the bell at the door and she’d run the other way. I’m pretty sure our lab could learn to use the buttons but the only ones he would voluntarily use would be BALL!!! or FOOD!!! 🤣

I have wanted to work with my catahoula/husky since I started watching Bunny the dog use her buttons. I just know there would be no consistency with DH when I wasn't home so it would be a frustrating experience. I think it is fascinating to see it happen IRL.
Keep us updated!

My dog couldn't even learn the bell on the front door to go out. But my late cat used to go ring the bell for her when she was standing quietly at the door. She might have had a lot to say to us.

I follow Stella with her buttons on Instagram and it’s amazing. My dogs are older 11, 9. I still think they could learn but I’m not going to do it. We communicate well already. It’s amazing to me how many words they know of us talking to each other and them.
If I get a new dog/s someday I will use buttons with them.

May I ask how old is your cat and how did you teach him/her? I have 2 cats and have seriously considered this. They are 4 and 2 years old. I'm curious as to how you begin teaching them and how old your cat was when you started.

I got them because Emma doesn’t ask to go out. She never did like the bell, so I thought the buttons would work. She already has a huge vocabulary and I think she would like them if she would not be so stubborn about it! She never took to them and pointedly ignores them unless she’s really excited. Then she will just reach out without even looking and hit her “outside” button.

I’ve been wanting to try! My little guy would be a good candidate. My concern is mainly MY discipline in teaching him.
He’s 2-1/2, is that an issue? I’ll keep checking this thread for tips, I’m not sure where to start.

My female would push those buttons day and night. She's a talker. And when talking doesn't work, she throws her bowls at me. I generally get one door warning with a quiet woof and then she is loud and proud.

I’ll keep checking this thread for tips, I’m not sure where to start. I started my cat at a year old. He’s not quite two and he has 36 buttons. He uses them all and understands them. He does some two word combinations now. It’s absolutely astonishing sometimes! Pea mail me and I’ll give you our Tiktok account- I’ve got some tips on there. Any age works! 😋

I think my dog would have been really good at using buttons if I had started teaching him when he was younger. I communicate with him both verbally and with sign language. He communicates with me by tapping me to get my attention, then he will walk over and stare back and forth from my face to whatever it is he wants to bring to my attention whether that is to be let out in the backyard, have a snack from the refrigerator, or to go upstairs to bed at night. Oh, and sometimes he has thrown a toy too hard and it has ended up underneath the couch or dresser or someplace that he can't get to. He will then come tap on my leg and when I ask what he wants he will run to wherever he got the toy stuck and look at me and look under the couch a few times until I get down and get it out for him. I think it would be fun to use word buttons, but he is quite good at making his desires known as it is. He is the smartest dog I have had.

I follow a dog on TikTok named Bunny and think she's so amazing! I never knew about the buttons before seeing her. My favorite things are when she tells on her dad for pooping upstairs and when she says "love you mom".

I love CatMan John on Tik Tok. Russell is their kitty that came from a hoarded home and now he has fits if laundry is left in the washing machine. And he wants the litter box to be cleaned. When Russell’s mom and dad left town, their carer stopped in to take care of them. Russell tapped two buttons immediately. “Mom. Mad.” 🤣

Thanks for the info, I watched a video that showed you how to train them...I may start with a 4 button set and give it a try.

I have tried to get my dog to use the buttons but he's afraid to push them. He gets excited when I push them but won't do it himself. The cat accidentally pushed one the other day and he gave her the funniest look!

Wow I never knew this was a thing! Our elderly dog probably wouldn’t trouble himself to push any buttons but our A-Hole younger dog might tell us off 😂
