I'm making a trip to IKEA; enable me, lol. I have a couple of 4x4 Kallex units, but I think I am going to go for the Billy bookcases because they aren't as deep. I can keep my 12x12 paper and albums in the Kallex units and everything else in the bookcases. My concern is a lot of organizing tips are for the Kallex and I'm not sure how many will translate to the Billy since they aren't as deep.
Are there any drawer must haves?

There is a Facebook group for Ikea craft rooms. It’s called Ikea Craft Rooms. You could get Billy bookcase ideas from there too.
I only have the Kallax and Alex.

I am pretty sure Victoria Marie uses the Billy bookcases, I think she has organizing youtube videos.

What do you store in the Alex? I heard that the drawers do not completely pull out, so I'm afraid of stuff getting lost in the back. What is your experience with them?

And duh! I didn't even think about FB groups. I've been looking on Pinterest. I'm sure the FB groups is going to be another rabbit hole that I hope I can crawl out of, lol.

Double-check the weight limit per Billy shelf and then weigh what you'll be storing on them just to be sure. I have Billy bookcases for books and I know one of my shelves is permanently curved because of too many heavy art books. My mistake! The Billy cases also have top extension units. This is perfect if you have some extra height under your ceiling (and it stretches the bookcases just enough to make them look sleek).
Sorry, I don't have a scraproom so no special scrappy tips for these cases!

sleepingbooty My current Billy bookcases are permanently bowed from books also, sigh. But I think I can live with that, as long as they don't break.

I have the Alex drawers. There is about six inches of the drawer that don't pull out. Honestly, I don't even notice it (or maybe I'm just used to it)
What do I keep in them...I'm a card maker so my items might be different. Oh, and it's the skinny not the wide drawer. Drawer 1 - foam blending tools and foam, finger daubers, stamp scrubby, my address stamp and ink Drawer 2- embossing heat tool, powders Drawer 3 - pastes, mousse, washi, nuvo drops, glitter Drawer 4 - label maker and stamp pockets, crop a diles, TH Heat Tool, rags Drawer 5 - the crafty equivalent of the kitchen junk drawer - stuff that has no place else but I'm hesitant to re-home
I'd like to get another to hold my inks, pens and watercolor stuff.

I recently got two regular Alex drawers - I'm not having a problem with that last 6-ish inches. As for what I'm storing: side 1 small - embellishment packs small -gemini plates, Cricut cartridges, Cropadile big -ink pads, stencils, daubers big - alphas and adhesive big -journalling/PL cards side 2 small - Christmas overflow small - Pinkfresh grab bag embellishments big - envelopes, nuvo drops, 4x6 Iris boxes with small embellishments by colour big - wooden stamps big - punches, texture paste, distress spray, X xyron The only drawer that is actually FULL - is the wooden stamp drawer

I also prefer the wide drawers so I can see a lot of things all at once instead of opening several drawers. There are drawers for the kallax if you have empty shelves. Two drawers fit in one cube.

Some things that I found really useful from Ikea: Nojig organizers for inside my drawers - these are so inexpensive that I just bought a whole bunch of them and figured out the configurations after I got home. The largest one is great for keeping on my desk to put paper scraps and stuff in, too. They also work great as project trays: www.ikea.com/ca/en/p/nojig-organizer-plastic-white-20507418/Kuggis boxes with lids in various sizes, nice for when you want to stack boxes. I have my embossing powders in one of them, I have extra Silhouette supplies in another. www.ikea.com/ca/en/p/kuggis-box-with-lid-white-40485854/Rajtan jars - I have a whole bunch of these for my buttons - I put them on a shelf in rainbow order. I hardly ever use buttons but the little jars just look so pretty. www.ikea.com/ca/en/p/rajtan-spice-jar-glass-aluminium-colour-40064702/Vesken cart - it's so inexpensive I bought it first and then figured out what to put into it - I ended up getting all of my ribbon rolls into it. It has a very thin profile so I can put it in my closet beside a drawer unit I have in there so I have no wasted space. www.ikea.com/ca/en/p/vesken-cart-white-00471222/I just moved my scrap room this past summer and used Ikea for most of my organizing stuff. I have a few more ideas but my computer is dying so I'll post more once it charges.

I have one 4x4 kallax and two 2x4 kallax units and I can manage to squeeze in one more 2x4 in the future if I need it. One of the 2x4's is in a walk in closet, so small footprint, and the other is horizontal and my husband added industrial caster wheels under it so it's raised up a nice counter height. I love them so much, don't think I'd switch, and if the shelves bow on the Billy, that def wouldn't work for me. I have a couple of the Kallax wire baskets that hang under the shelves and they are really holding up well - one is full with paperwork/order receipts and the other I have stencils and some random oversize embellishment packs. Then low stamp and card storage fit under them.
For the Kallax, I recently I tried a WRMK plastic storage tray unit (4 trays come in a pack) since they were more economical than others and the newer kallax 4-shelf dividers only come in white (I wanted brown-black) and were never in stock anyway. The WRMK trays seem sturdy enough and I can probably fit 10-high in one kallax square. I use them for kits I have prepped with photos that I take to crops, this way they are organized in categories and they were sliding around since my stack of them was getting too tall. Originally I really wanted the Kallax dividers since they were a good price and can be inserted horizontally or vertically.
I have 5 Helmer drawer units and they are my favorite for wood stamp storage - 3 layers of wood stamps fit and I like the small drawers so I have lots of categories, which I like. One of them fits under my work table right next to me, so I can put my little often-used supplies in it. I've also had them stacked 2 units together (without the casters) and they were super sturdy that way. Worst thing is I was getting them for under $30 and now they are $69! I would not have bought 5 at that price and I'm on the fence if they are worth that, but I have all 5 of mine in use.
I know the Alex units are super popular, but they were too big of drawers/footprint for me and I didn't like the style, since most of what I have is more vintage style.
Oh, and if you have punches, I'm a huge fan of the Hultarp rails, I have 6 of them and they hold a ton of my punches (both whale-tale and the locking style left open).

I am really happy with my Alex drawers. I have 2 5-drawer units that also serve as desk support plus 2 wide pieces.
The drawers are deep and 2 different heights. They are stronger than I expected although not strong enough to hold all my paper punches stamps in one drawer. ha! I haven't had any problems reaching things in the back of the drawer.
The 5 drawer units have my embellishments, paper scraps, adhesives, random tools (tiny stapler, corner rounder, rulers, etc), inks and roller stamps, mixed media stuff.
The wide units have printing supplies, album making supplies, stamps, dies, some finished projects, manuals, etc.
They came together pretty easily too.

The Billy bookcases are 10 1/4 inch deep. I actually keep most of my 12x12 paper on my Billy bookcases... I store most of my paper vertically, so it's arranged in 12x12 storage things (you know, like those magazine organizers, only 12x12? I can't think what they're called), then those organizers sit on the middle 2 shelves of my Billy bookcases. I also keep a couple 12x12 albums with 'base pages' and pages-in-progress on the lower-middle shelf of that same bookcase. The upper shelves are where I keep my sets of colored pencils, cheap watercolors, cheap markers, etc. along with a couple large jars that hold 'mark-making tools' (chopsticks, toothbrushes for spattering, etc.) and a jar that holds my Uhu glue sticks for collage.
