I have a button to sew on. Does that count? I have a super great seamstress who has been fixing clothes for me for 20 years now. I had a pretty sweater and the buttons that came with it unravelled so I returned it to the store and exchanged it for a different one. Well the same thing happened so I just went and bought all new buttons and had my seamstress put on the buttons. The buttons weren't cheap. (I love this top. It is adorable and someone sure knows how to crochet well!!!) and it cost me 2 dollars to get the old buttons taken off which were a PITA (they were sewn on there and had to be all unpicked and it was a mess) and the new ones sewn on. $2. Yes. Money well spent.

Yes. Money well spent. I've bought a couple of tops where buttons unraveled like you. $2 is a good deal. I'm currently looking for someone to replace a zipper without leaving the coat for 4 days. Buttons, hems and seams I can fix no problem. Replacing a zipper, no way.

A zipper might cost 6 dollars. I am not doing it. She gives you the zipper, matches the thread, sews it up nicely and it's ready in 2 days. Nope not happening. Seam I can fix myself. Yes, I can do that. Hem, nope not going out and buying the right colour thread as the fabric store is way on the other side of town. Seamstress is on the way home from work. She is only open on the days I work. Win win!

You know a winter coat sized zipper? A looooong big, black strong zipper? That would be about $10-$12 I think. I seem to recall paying that as the one I had bought split after a number of years. Still not bad. And still only takes 2 days.
Hems she will do while I wait because I speak to her in Chinese...she thinks I can actually speak. I know I can't but hey, she gets a kick out of it.

Here's a pic I sent to my mom the other night. Santa was done by grandma. I did the paint cans, rocking horse and drum so far. It's beautiful! What a treasure this will be, having been worked on by you and your grandma. (Sorry to read about her accident.)

I just put up my stocking that my grandmother made for me. One of my most treasured possessions. And I love that you're all working in it, that makes it even more special. ETA: I didn't see your follow up post before replying. He's 3, he's definitely not going to notice it isn't finished. Put it up as-is then finish it in Jan/Feb then it will be ready for next year and for years and years to come.

Ok what are dream duffles? I love the variety of all you've made! I also would love to see the tutu! Well, this stocking is kicking my booty. I'm sick and worked on it most of the day but I still feel like I'm never going to finish it. Today I made a little felt ball, teddy bear, paint brush and started a train. I hope to finish and attach the train tomorrow and then decide what to do. At that point the instructions tell me to sew the stocking back side on, so at that time it's functional. Do I stop and work on other stuff (I.e. Wrapping gifts, finish shopping, etc.) and come back to it if there's time? At least its to the point Santa can fill it and I can finish it in January. I need a clone of myself alissa103 you sew the back on and get it functional for this year and then work on it more when you don't have the holiday rush upon you. That's what I would do any way! LOL

And just how many quilts has this friend made? Getting all those squares matched up takes work! Not to mention picking the fabrics and getting the layout just right with that many fabrics! I hate when people make comments like that! @**GypsyGirl** she has made lots of quilts but she lives a very different life than I do. I am raising my granddaughter who is a special needs child and I also have my mother living here with me temporarily while she has knee surgery. The friend just lives with her husband and has a grandchild on the weekends sometimes. People that don't sew usually don't know if I've used a hard pattern or any easy pattern. So I'm fine with the easy, simple basic stuff. In my opinion, the simple patterns allow me to get stuff done and I like that a lot!

Ok thanks ladies, I think I'll sew on the back, make the name tag part that hangs off the side and appliqué these little holly leaves that go in the corners. The rest of the design has toys strung across the top and it won't be obvious that they're missing. And they're a lot of work - a car, gingerbread house, doll and two candycanes. It will take me weeks to do those. I can do them one a month until June. Lol!

I'm making these with my son, I'm using fabric instead of paper and free handing on my sewing machine instead of gluing the sides. He's gluing the sequins and I help him glue the eyes and beak. I started a tradition of him having an ornament, the first year was his hand print on an ornament and I turned it into snowmen, the second was dough cut with cookie cutters and his fingerprint was the buttons on the gingerbread or the ornaments on the tree. I might add a card stock tag this year with his fingerprint to continue on the fingerprint theme. I give them to the grandparents and aunts. www.thatartistwoman.org/2010/12/snowy-owl-ornaments.html

I made this Christmas table runner a few weeks ago. I love the fabric in your table runner. I really need to make one. I just finished up a couple aprons for my sister. I found a couple cute tutorials on Pinterest. I will post pictures when I have a model (one of my DD's) to try it on. I am also making the grandkids an Elf on the Shelf rag quilt. I wanted to make a traditional quilt but won't have enough time to get it done before Christmas.

Machine sewing - I put together an advent calendar - 25 3.5"x5" bags - and a banner using Riley Blake fabric. It started as just the bags, but when I ordered the fabric from Etsy, the vendor had to sub 2 of the 16 patterns. As an apology, she included a matching banner panel. Well, I had to put that together, too. My 3 year old is loving the advent calendar and walks by it saying "Just one a day, Carcar (Carter)" and then points to the last one and say "Until it's Christmas!"
I just got a panel in the mail to make a Frozen fabric book for my niece. That should work up quickly (just jinxed myself)
Hand sewing - on my lunch breaks, I'm working on some felt food for my niece's birthday gift. I picked up a cute set of a cookie sheet, bundt pan, and tart pan with cookie cutters and a rolling pin from Ikea for $10. I'm making felt cookies, a bundt cake and a fruit tart to coordinate, along with a cute ice cream set. I work in a small office, just me and my two bosses. They both crack up hearing me cuss and grumble when I stick myself. I went in to sit down yesterday and one of them had put a box of Princess bandaids one the conference table. Funny, funny guys.

Beautiful quilt.... I flat refuse to sew anything until I get a new machine.... What kind of machine are you wanting? I want a brothers sewing machine that does basic embroidery. My mom loved her brothers machines. I have a pile of crap(can't remember the name right at this moment) and it SUCKS! has SUCKED since the day my husband brought it home.

Here's the tree skirt I'm working on. I just need to add some more quilting (why the heck did I use that stupid hobbs batting), cut the hole, and bind it. Never again will I make something with 8 seams coming together in one place. It looks terrible in those spots but it's a tree skirt so I'm not going to stress over it. I might put buttons over them.
