Hey all! Returning to scrapping after almost a decade - there have been some changes! Looks like Ali Edwards is still there doing her thing, and Becky Higgins is, well.. even more Becky Higgins than ever. (I spent a very amusing evening catching up on the last 15-20 pages of the thread here about her, that was a trip.) Almost all of my favorite companies are either gone (goodbye, October Afternoon!) or were bought by American Crafts. Excited to start posting here, and finding new designers to follow! But as I get started, I've got one big question - what is everyone's preferred adhesive now? I still have the giant Scotch pink tape gun but is there something better and more manageable out there? I noticed that a lot of mini-books I put together ten years ago with dot rollers now fall apart into their component pieces (I think I was using AC This To That rollers) if I so much as touch them, which is depressing - all the adhesive completely dried up and unstuck. I'm honestly not fussed about my adhesive being archival/acid-free (I'm the last in my family, these albums are going to the dump when I'm gone ) but I'd really like it to last as long as possible. Thanks!

Unfortunately, the long term deterioration of sticky adhesives is inherent to their nature, not exclusive to a particular brand. If you want something to stay glued together, use a curing glue. I know a lot of folks eschew liquid adhesives because they're messier, harder to work with, and can buckle paper but they really are the better long term investment. My favourites are Aleene's Tacky Glue (longer working time, paste-y) and Scotch Tacky Glue (thinner, sets quicker).
"Tape" is a swear word in the conservation circles for a reason. That and staples. *shudders* Do not ask me how many rusty staples and paperclips I have had to remove from historic documents.

ATG is still pretty much the standard. You are still on trend!

Since 1996, I've used double sided adhesives squares, and occasionally double sided tape runner.

Welcome back to the craft, skycrashesdown! Glad to hear the Becky/Beggy Higgins thread was entertaining... As others have said, adhesive is one of the weak points of this craft and any kind of binding in general. I use the scrapbook.com rolls of double-sided adhesive that come in different widths and are well-liked by many scrapbookers (and that are reasonably priced). The 1/4 roll, the most popular size, is currently out of stock, however.

Adhesive very much depends on your climate, too. I had to try many brands here in hot and humid Florida before I found one that works. I use the Kokuyo Dotliner.

I use the green Tombow Mono Multi adhesive which is, I think, pretty similar to Alene's. It doesn't warp the paper and dries clear. Any surplus can be rubbed off really easily and cleanly.

Tombow's a rubber or latex adhesive, from what I can tell. Quite different as it retains its sticky properties after drying unlike PVA (white) glues. Unfortunately it's chemically unstable long term and tends to 'bleed' oils into paper after a few years. I haven't had any long enough to see the full life cycle of the product. PVA's have their detriments too, mostly by being irreversible once polymerized and water based, which can warp paper.

I've been using the blue Tombow runners for 18 years without issue. I also like my ATG. I use photo squares for my photos.
Welcome back to a fun craft!

I use creative memories tape runners. Pricey but I love them.

I also use the blue permanent Tombo adhesive runner and no problems. If something is chunkier, I use double sided tape, I like the Scor-Tape for that. The Tombo site has the best sales, I wait until they have 40% off.

I usually use an ATG gun but right now I am using up some score tape that I had on hand. I bought it for a specific project but I really like using it for regular scrapbooking. It's easier for me to use it in tighter spaces & get the exact right amount than the ATG gun. It's been a few weeks and I am getting used to cutting off what I need instead of having a dispenser.
I am happy with both.
Then I use a zig pen for small pieces and a giant roll of 3M foam tape for when I want dimension.
Welcome back to scrapbooking!!

Welcome back to scrapping skycrashesdown. I haven't ventured into the Becky Higgins thread - it's taken on a life of its own. I liked Becky's hand lettering articles way back in the early CK days but never followed her scrapbooking style. As for adhesives, my favorite are still the 3L runners. I used to be able to get them at Hobby Lobby with their 40% off coupons but they no longer carry them (or offer the coupons). They're expensive and I try to find them on sale online but have never had trouble with them. When I first started sb-ing, I used an archival liquid adhesive in several sbs and over the years it has "bled through" ruining several photos and embellishments. Hope you enjoy your return to the hobby and the board.

I'm on the west coast where it's warm to hot and dry most of the year. I've been using Scotch adhesives in one form or another for 15 years. The ATG is my go-to. Welcome back skycrashesdown

Glad you are coming back to scrapbooking!
I use the Kokuyo Dotliner primarily (bought on Amazon) and Bearly Art liquid glue for smaller items. I never liked the bigness of the ATG but I know a lot of people love it.

I still use my ATG for most things. I do also use a liquid glue for certain things but I mainly reach for the ATG

Welcome back to scrapping! I’m still using the same pink atg that I bought about 11 or 12 years ago. I also use Nuvo Deluxe liquid adhesive and sometimes foam squares for dimension.

Welcome back to the crafty side skycrashesdown! I'm another still using my trusty ATG - I've had it since 2005 or 2006. Wow. I buy the refills from the tape jungle to save a *lot* of money. A lot of my older pages/projects do fall apart. The old herma tabs did NOT last - they dried out

Another who uses the blue permanent Tombo adhesive runner.
I also still use the EK Success Tools Herma Vario Refill Permanent Adhesive Squares in the runner.
As well as Mono Tombo Liquid Clear Glue.
And then red line tape when I need super extra stick.
It just depends on the project and item.

Thanks, all! Really glad to be back in the hobby, and looking forward to posting here! I think I've still got some Tombo runners, and I'll start using my ATG gun.
