I'm ok with it. I don't see it as being that much different than dipping bread in oil. I would not mind having an excuse to put too much butter on bread.

and then you put the bread into your mouth and some people will lick their fingers, and then they will use those same fingers to break off another piece of bread and each time those fingers are very likely to come into contact with what's on the board...repeat multiple times for each person...and voila! buttered germs I don't love butter enough to do this so it's a no for me. What I don't get is all the double dipping responses. The same thing can be said for a bowl of dip and chips or salsa and chips. Do you all avoid those at parties too? Ever heard of an appetizer plate and spreader? This board never disappoints. I think it’s because several people mentioned dragging the bread through the butter that’s smeared on the board which looks to me like a communal activity similar to a fondue pot. Generally when I’m eating chips and dip or salsa at a party there is a spoon in the dip and everyone has their own little appetizer plate as you noted. (I’m not a fan of fondue or chocolate fountains either, for that matter.) On a related note, a while back I bought some chip and dip bowls from Goodwill of all places. There’s a little well on one side for your dip or salsa and a bigger compartment for the chips. They’re pretty awesome and since the set of 8 was just $2, I couldn’t go wrong, LOL.

I had to google...it's a no from me too. I don't like butter much and don't put it on my bread normally...and this looks like you'd get way too much. There were also a lot of pictures of these that had figs...who wants butter on fresh figs? Or radishes? Yuck. Then all the finger licking and double dipping and then you've got a board of butter coated bacteria...no thanks. Ooh one of my favorite snacks in the summer is fresh radishes with unsalted butter and dipped into course salt. It’s such a good combo. Served it with French bread and I call it lunch.

Well, this trend made it onto GMA in the 8:00 hour so expect to see some variation of this at your next holiday or family gathering At least the recipe creator they interviewed suggested having plenty of knives to use instead of dragging a piece of bread through the whole thing. I love butter, like really love butter. There's no other reason for bread, really a butter delivery system. I think the trend is pretty cool and would not say no if one was put down in front of me. Would I make one? eh - looks like a mess to clean up.

Pjaye, you have to try this! There is nothing better then a fresh, crispy from the garden radish, a dollop of creamy butter, sprinkle of salt. really good! try it!

I haven't seen a butter board anywhere IRL and have no plans to try it. I love a whipped, herbed butter to add on top of something hot (steak, seafood, bread) but can't wrap my head around dipping raw vegetables or fruit in butter. I'll stick to herbed olive oil and Balsamic vinegar for bread dipping.

I'm not a big enough fan of butter in any form or combo to want a whole board of it, and as others said, I'm not a big fan of spreading butter (or anything similar) over a board to begin with. Sounds messy and possibly wasteful to me---unless of course my guests turn out to be completely thrilled to eat a board's worth of butter.
