A wwyd fluff post... Bought a frozen turkey last Thanksgiving and then decided to go another route. The turkey has been at the bottom of our chest freezer all year. Soooo too long and toss? Obviously I can't tell if it's freezer burned unless I open. wwyd?

According to Butterball, it is still safe to eat. I probably wouldn’t use it as a Thanksgiving turkey, but I’d cook and eat it for a meal. Actually, I’d probably smoke it.

IT is fine to use. The wrapping on the turkey is so tight and secure. I buy turkey and chicken and keep them for a year or longer.
Let it thaw out completely. I finish the thawing process in my big laundry tub with lots of water. You will be amazed at how good the turkey will be. ENJOY!

Why would you toss it? Thaw it and cook it for dinner. Use the leftovers to make some turkey freezer meals.

It should be fine. We have eaten turkeys after a year many times. The way they are wrapped and they are good for a while. I just discovered we have two in our freezer. I think we will be smoking one soon.

They're fine for up to a year if you haven't opened it or re-wrapped it. I just thaw it and cook it my normal way.

We had just this scenario a few weeks ago. My husband used an injectable marinade. It was delicious

Yeah, I have often kept a frozen turkey for a year or more, and then roasted it. No problem.

I'd only be concerned if you have a frost free freezer. Those have a constant cycle of warm/freeze to keep the frost out, which is why you should never have one as your long term storage deep freeze.
