Has anyone done this before? I took a break for 2019 and now I want to go back and complete one. I've never used the PL app but it seems like it could work really well for this. My old question is how and where do you print the pages? I want 12x12 but don't have that large of a printer. I should also mention that I'm in Canada.

For printing... Persnickety Prints often has great sales on 12x12 prints. I am not familiar with international shipping, however, which may be a road block. In general, though, I am all about catching up on older Project Life! It's all I've done for the past couple years, and I am going to shamelessly plug a podcast I was just on (in which we discuss catching up and the various methods that help me do so): www.simplescrapper.com/2022/09/syw188/Good luck to you!

I'm in US, but another vote for Persnickety for 12x12 prints. I do have a wide-format printer, but if I have a lot of 12x12 pages, it's a better deal if I use Persnickety. They do sales where you can buy credits. The prints have always turned out great. The PL app is super glitchy right now with the latest update, but assuming it gets better, it's a good option for getting caught up. You might try to make a page, save it, and make sure you can access before you make a bunch and have your pages disappear. There's a Facebook group, Simply Project Life App that has some great resources/ideas on using the app and folks talking about work arounds for the update glitches. www.facebook.com/groups/1787761148202167

If you have an iPhone just wait to download or open the app. They released an update on Friday and it is a mess. Android is ok because we didn't get the newest update. Our Sept update was just a bug fix no new content. www.facebook.com/groups/1787761148202167/?ref=shareThis is a great FB page for App scrappers. Start with the FAQ posts. TONS of info

I love shameless plugs! I listen to Simple Scrapper almost daily, so I'll have to catch that episode on my next walk. I am not a Project Lifer, but I do enjoy catching up on old layouts. I don't know of any rules that say you can't go back, as long as the project brings you joy.

Yes I used the PL app to do an entire album from 2016. I printed it 8x8 size. I believe I printed through the app. I also like Persnickety tho. My only suggestion is to make sure you lighten the pictures or at least auto enhance. After I printed all the pages some of the pictures were dark and hard to see. I wish I would’ve printed a few to see how they turned out instead of bulk printing. Anyway good luck. I need to do this again for past years. It goes much faster.
That was a good podcast episode.

If Persnickety Prints doesn't work out due to shipping, it looks like Costco is available in Canada. I print my photos and layouts through Costco online, and they do offer 12X12. It's a little more expensive than Persnickety's sale prices, but you may want to compare shipping costs to see what makes sense. I actually prefer the prints I get back from Costco. Until the Project Life app comes back up, another option would be to use Canva for 12X12 collages. If you have Photoshop Elements, it's pretty simple to create your own layouts or download ready-made templates.

I am in Canada too and I ordered from Persnickety Prints. Very few companies print 12x12 in Canada and they charge more than $10 a print. (Blacks and Pikto are ones that do) Persnickety charges $19 for shipping but the prints are $2. Even with the exchange rate it was cheaper to order from the US.
I considered using Scrapping Simply because their prices and shipping are good too. I went with Persnickety because of all the rave reviews.

Thanks for posting this--also in Canada. I've been getting my photos printed at London Drugs (not as good as Blacks, but local so quicker pickup). My 12x12 prints are $16. I will definitely look at bundling some together and going to Persnickety.

needtime2scrap Plenty of people are working back in time for PL, including on the board. I believe Chinagirl828 was working on her 2010 PL earlier this year? Have you considered going the digital album route to save on printing costs? When you complete the year and export the images from the PL app, you can reimport them as full pages into, say, the Blurb software and get your whole year printed as a single book for far less money than individual prints. They have a large square 12x12 format. You'll just need to play around with the paper quality and cover to get to a price point you're comfortable with. Bonus: Blurb often has great deals. Right now, Blurb Canada offers 15% off and free shipping on all photo books.

I have to go back to finish albums all the time! I have no problems starting things, but I tend to have an issue finishing things. I do both digital and traditional scrapping and have a wide format printer, but I don't always want to print layouts here at home. Like others, I have used Persnickety Prints. I buy 12x12 credits when they go on sale and then when I have a bunch of layouts ready to go all at once I order using my credits.

I believe Chinagirl828 was working on her 2010 PL earlier this year? I started working on my 2010 album this year and have made really good progress on it, probably more than I've done on my 2022 album. I'm doing mine in a mix of 12x12 full and pocket pages, but I do think the idea of printing them as a photo book is a good one, unless you have a strong preference for printing the pages individually and slipping into an album. I had another year where I worked on an older album as digi pages and had those printed as a photo book, and I love the finished result.

I will also chime in with the Persnickety Prints suggestion. I haven't personally used them, as I have never printed any 12x12 pages. But they seem to be the go-to for people here. I am a member of the Australian PL Facebook group, and there was a post just this weekend where a member asked for recommendations. And even though we have to pay shipping fees from the US for Persnickety Prints here in Aus, it is apparently still cheaper than getting them printed anywhere locally. And people seem happy with the quality.
These are some of the comments on the post the other day:
"Persnickety Prints are great quality & if you wait till they have a sale you can get the print at a good price. You but the print credits in bundles of 50 & can then use them at anytime. Sorry not sure when there next sale is but I think they have them a couple of times a year. crazy you have to get them from America, but it’s worth it for the quality."
"totally agree on quality and price! I print 10x10 inch abs impossible to source elsewhere. But the quality is incredible, the sales are worth waiting for and the postage is the same regardless how heavy your package is. I’ve used them for years now, nothing is comparable."
ETA: When I finally get around to finishing a full PL year, I am going to get the pages printed in a photo book, rather than printing out individual pages. It is cheaper and the books won't be as bulky.

I took a break for 2019 and now I want to go back and complete one. I've never used the PL app but it seems like it could work really well for this. I realized that I didn't answer the first part of your question. The drawback to doing an older year is the pictures are probably not on your phone anymore. I don't know if the PL app can access cloud storage from the app. I think you would have to copy the pictures over. I have only played around with the PL app so someone else can correct me on this. I use PSE (Photoshop elements) to make my pages. The templates I use are similar to these from Tracy Larsen. I like learning one program and being able to print with any company. Canva is free to use so that is another option. Kim Hurst who did the Canva class for Ali Edwards sells templates. For $7 these templates look like a good starting point. There is the Facebook group Scrapbooking with Canva to learn tips. Did you do any pages for 2019? Shannan Matton redid her pocket pages as a photobook. She talk about it in her blog post. I agree with the others who are suggesting a photobook if you are making digital pages. The only PL I finished is for 2021. I had it printed through Blurb during a 40% off sale. It is 96 pages and cost $93.73 with shipping. It is definitely cheaper than printing 12x12 and buying an album and page protectors. Plus it is so slim.

Not sure about iphone but on Android I can access Google photos and the albums I create in Google photos. Makes using older photos way easier. You can search for the album so I will just put an x at the front of the album name so I can hit that one letter and it will show up quick.

If the PL app doesn't work out, I use an app called PhotoSheet that has a 12x12 option with many different Grid Patterns.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I've started the play around witht the PL app and did a couple of pages. I've already created a separate album in my Google photos for the year so going back isn't too difficult. The only pain is dividing the photos by weeks (which is how I do my PL) the other thing I didn't realize was how much I move around my photos in the pocket spaces before I decide on final placement. The app is annoying for that. Another option I could do is literally print out the whole year of photos and do work in a regular album and use up a bunch of the PL cards that I've accumulated. My only cost would be the photos, I have the page protectors, album and cards already.

I have done this before, and to be honest, I am still on PL 2021. I took photos for 2022 but have not even started this year. I figure just batch print and have your journaling cards lined up and ready to go.

I actually decided to print out the years' worth of photos (with coupon code) and the organized them by week like I normally do. This weekend I started to fill pockets. I've gotten up to the middle of March right now (working weekly) I'm definitely not over thinking things, so not a ton of embellishments. I am, however, using up a bunch of PL cards, chipboard pieces from AE story kits and having to make up some cards with my stamp sets. All good stuff. I do notice that I have a shortage of 4x6 cards for sure. Especially since I made the decision to not change up my page protectors. I'm strictly using the design A pack to simplify things. So 4x6 cards are needed more than I realized.

I’ve done a few old catch-up PL albums (currently doing 2015, which was abandoned in early spring that year when we found we were moving across the country).
I print the photos in batches and keep it fluid. No strict weekly format. I go chronologically and just fill the pockets with whatever pictures and info I have still available. It’s been a GREAT way to use up older supplies from my stash, like old PL core kits. Completing the older albums is solely about preserving those memories and not so much about the artistic & creative outlet, so I’m much less selective about what supplies I’m grabbing. What always surprises me, over and over, is how much I end up liking those pages, in spite of using stuff I don’t particularly care for.

I've found the same thing, it's like I don't care as much because it's an older album, and it's been freeing. And I've really liked a lot of the pages I've made.

I've done 4 albums I think with strictly core kits. In some ways it's very freeing and takes some of the guess work out of things. But it does get redundant with so many multiples. My favorite by far was the midnight kit. If there were more like that I might have considered it.
