When I was posting my layouts I noticed I usually stick to using everything in one line. If I use Vicki Boutin, for example, 90% of the page is Vicki Boutin paper and embellishments. I'll use enamel dots, sequins, wood pieces, and Thickers with it but I generally stay with all matchy stuff.
Sometimes I will mix two lines together, like two Vicki Boutin ones. Or sometimes I will mix Simple Stories Vintage and 49 and Market together (now I know why- same designer) but I tend to stay with one line.
Honestly, I think part of it is laziness and part of it is that I really can't combine two styles- I can't combine cartoony and realistic for example. My brain can't wrap around it.
My only real exception is when I buy kits. I do love kits.
I see some of you mixing things from all different places and I'm jealous. I need to think more out of the box.
Do you stay with one line or mix it up?

I’m like you. I’ll buy kits where someone else has mixed it all up for me. Otherwise I’ll tend to stick with one collection or one designer/brand. It’s just easier. Right now, I like things being easier. I also own so much paper. It’s overwhelming to try to mix and match when I’ve already got something that works.

Nope, almost never. It's taken me a while, but I finally figured out that my favorite part of scrapping is mixing pattern papers. I get the most joy out of curating page kits and remembering what I have, searching thru stash for the combination I want.
I am no design expert, I try to listen to the advice, but I look at things like the size of the pattern/image, either comparable or complimentary colors, try to not use too many wordy papers together, ground everything with solid colors. Lately I've been on a monotone kick where things are all the same shade family or blocking the page by color or lines of color. It is fun.
I sometimes get a little campy with mixing patterns, but if I like it, I go with it. It's just paper!
I don't buy full collections, and usually only 1-2 pieces of paper I like, if I really like it maybe 4-5.
One thing I love about VB, is her lines tend to work well together across collections. Maybe you can try that to start?

I definitely mix it up. I don’t like how samesie a single line tends to be, all sane repeated tones, repeated icons, etc. it ends up looking rather flat to my eye.

Mostly mix and match but sometimes I'll use a collection for a layout on its own
I store PP and cardstock by colour for the most part and that makes it easier to mix and match.

I have tended to stick to one line, but I am getting better at branching out and the layouts where I mixed up my papers are some of my favourites.
I have SO much paper that I am now only trying to buy the sheets that I love and making it work with what I already have. I would say the biggest challenging is that I have almost everything sorted by paper line (except for a bit of paper that is sorted by colour) so I need to go through and really look for what works together. But it's always a fun process and I like mixing the old and new. I feel like it breathes new life into my stash.

I mix it up. I rarely buy an entire collection. My stash is organized by themes that only make sense to me. I always start with the photo and decide what kind of vibe it has if it doesn't fit a specific theme. So if it's a photo with bright colors, I go to the summer category. I mostly scrap events and holidays. I guess I'm lazy in that regard. If it's a birthday, I use the candle paper and some themed stickers. I am not creative. I just like to do crafty things.

I tend to scrap mostly by collection with a few extra bits thrown in. If I try to make my own kits or combine collections or patterns it takes me forever and isn't fun for me. I just want to start scrapping.

I virtually never scrap within a collection. When I first started I couldn't afford to buy a full line, so I had to work out how to make the paper I bought work together for lots of different pages. I think there might have been one or two collections over the years where I've bought it all, but I don't have a massive stash so I still tend to buy only the bits that I really love and work well with my style. I enjoy pulling different things together and making them work. While I know some of the rules around scale and tone, I usually go by gut feel, I just know if I can make something work when I put it together. I don’t like how samesie a single line tends to be, all sane repeated tones, repeated icons, etc. it ends up looking rather flat to my eye. I feel the same way.

Usually I do, but that is just for paper. Happy to find other pieces that work with my layout as I go.

I see some of you mixing things from all different places and I'm jealous. I need to think more out of the box. I would start with things that have the same general feel about them, so VB and BG would probably be a good pairing. I also look for colour tones. When I first started mixing patterns I mostly stuck to one colour family, and I found page designs using my scraps was a good way to do this, where you only have a small amount of each piece so nothing seems too loud. I also mix FJ with the rest of my stash as I find her b&w prints will go with anything that works well with a crisp white base.

I usually grab two collections to start picking papers from and go from there. I will add cardstock, letter stickers and embellishments from various sources when I start putting together the layout.
So, I guess my answer is kind of? 😁

I mix it up. Different product lines. Different patterns. Mix and match.

99% of my layouts will use papers and embellishments from the one digital kit/collection. I might throw in some embellishments or paper from other kits if my main kit doesn't have what I need, but the majority of the product will be from the same kit. I makes it soooooo much quicker and easier, I don't have to go hunting through my stash to find bits and pieces to match/complement the rest of the products. I definitely mix it up. I don’t like how samesie a single line tends to be, all sane repeated tones, repeated icons, etc. it ends up looking rather flat to my eye. You've just described 99% of my pages! But that's okay, because I like it that way. Having said that, I really liked the look of some of my pages from Shimelle's Scrap A Rainbow classes, where I had to do so much more mix and match than I've ever done before. The main reason I stick with samsies is because it is a lot quicker for me to get a page done. The Scrap A Rainbow pages took me two to three times longer to do, with all the stash hunting involved.

Sometimes yew, sometimes no. I don't always buy the entire line.
I do however love to mix lines by the same company and mix brands. I appreciate it when lines within a brand go with previous lines. It helps me use it bits and pieces I have left.

I will make a few layouts with a collection, then I dump it all in with whatever theme it is. Then I mix and match in my layouts.
I also have a box of unthemed papers, because I can't resist a good floral with a coordinating background.

Hmm, yes but not all the time. Especially if I've used up a good portion of a collection. I too wish I was better about mixing things up.

I scrap almost exclusively using one line, it's easy for me that way. Although I do mix lines within the same brand because oftentimes they work well together. Embellishments may come from lots of places, but most often from the collection I'm working with.

I'm the Kit Queen - I love it when everything goes together.
That said, I recently found a single piece of PP floating around my stash - no brand on the back. It struck me, and I abandoned my cleanup project (LOL) to make 4 cards with it.
I will also sometimes make my own kit from my stash, especially if I'm traveling to a crop. I treat my DIY kits just like my purchased kits, and I leave them together until they're too used-up to be worthwhile.

I start with a collection or a kit and then bring in additional elements where needed.

No. I very rarely stick to all one manufacturer. At the moment, in the vacation album I’m doing, I’m using at least three paper lines from three different manufacturers, and embellishments from at least eight. I love mixing things that are not made to go together, but match perfectly.

Mix it up 99% of the time. I enjoy the process and it helps to keep me in touch with my stash.

Mostly yes, I do keep things by line. My brain works that way and I find it easier. That being said, my PL style is the complete opposite. I take everything from everywhere and mix and match completely.

I usually mix and match. I have fun searching for the perfect paper and embellishments, and it keeps my pages from all looking the same.

I start off working from a kit or collection but almost always add to it from my random embellishments, paper scraps, etc.

I would LIKE to scrap within the same line, it seems that would be easier, but I rarely do. It feels too matchy matchy, and I prefer mixy mixy.

I think the reason I scrap mostly by line is that I have an insanely enormous stash from 20+ years of scrapping. It would take me forever to find stuff if I didn't scrapbook by line. I do have some things bagged up by theme, for example all of the 4th of July stuff is together, and it is easy to mix papers because everything is red, white, and blue. I do that. But most of the time I stay within a line.
I think it would be easier to mix if I had a smaller stash.
