This is one of my favourite songs ever, but I can’t find it anywhere online. I remember there being some kind of incident with Michelle Shocked withdrawing her music from streaming, but I can’t even find it to buy. There is one cover version of it on Spotify but it isn’t that great. Does anyone have any advice on how I can listen to this song before I forget it?!

It isn’t on Apple Music. I have (pretty sure) the CD Short sharp shocked, but haven’t listen to it in years. I will have to go looking now. I’ve forgotten about it. I am not sure you will be able to find it with all I read, unless you have an old cd or something. I would start looking at thrift stores or places that sell old or used CDs if you really want it hear it. Thanks for the flash back.
I was shocked (😉😄) to read the Wikipedia entry on her and did not remember hearing about all the controversy with her saying she was the biggest homophobe at a Christian event and a lot of other info including her growing up Mormon. Although she did say there was a lot of disinformation in her Wikipedia entry.
On her own website she says:
That’s probably more background than you needed. But here’s my point: I’ve done the impossible. Using the dull sledgehammer we call DMCA takedown, I have enforced my intellectual property rights by deliberately withholding my work, in order to demonstrate the scale of the creative destruction. Any of my work you find on the Internet is an unlicensed bootleg. You won’t find my work on iTunes. Not on YouTube. Not on Amazon. Not on Spotify. If 80 year-old consent decrees and 110 year-old compulsory licenses didn’t protect corporate predators, my work wouldn’t be on Pandora or SiriusXM either.
Thirty four years into a career with complete ownership of an amazing, critically-acclaimed, internationally-recognized catalog, and I have managed to extricate myself from the biggest bootleg operation the world has ever seen. I’ve paid a high price, certainly. I’ll continue to search for alternatives where creative control and artistic integrity might be practiced beyond our digital dystopia. The current degree of DMCA dysfunction offers little light at the end of a very long tunnel, either for new or legacy artists. The .01% of artists who receive 90% of the streaming revenue may be the names you’ll recall. But for the 99% of us dying at a rate of extinction faster than the Amazon tree frog, the songs we wrote that you never heard will be all that remains of our story.

Ebay has cds listed. Nothing over $20.
I love her music. I'd heard there was controversy, but didn't look into it much.

But after her vile born-again Christian rant against gay marriage I stopped listening to all of it. Disgusting doesn’t quite describe her words. Deplorable is more like it. She doesn’t deny her on-stage lecture about gay marriage being a precursor of the end of days.

Aw crap. I had not heard about her homophobic ways. How weird. I thought she'd grown up kind of a rebel. Strange turn.

I forgot about her and she sounds like an asshole. No one cares they can't find your music but please tell us again how that's all by your own design. 😂
