That's a great update! I hope everyone continues to do the right thing. It's a wise warning to us all to have our beneficiaries up to date.
Good luck to your brother.

Well...she took EVERYTHING! She left me the last shirt he wore, his work badge and his wedding ring! I mean WTF? My dad wanted my son to have his expensive Shriner's ring, but she took that too. She finally gave me his ashes. DH wanted me to take her to court and sue her, but in the end, it just wasn't worth it to me. I had the best of my father (his love) and she can never take that away. In my friends case there was a property dispute. Her dad thought he had set up the proper legal documents to pass it down to his children (generational family farm) but was missing something. The widow knew it and used it to her advantage. I'm sorry, it was awful to watch my friend go through it and spend the money to try and keep the land in the family only to loose it over a missing form.

I swear nothing makes people nasty like inheritance money. My uncle just became devilish over my grandmother's estate. She actually had made me a beneficiary on a small policy. My uncle tried to get me to sign over that to him to pay for her burial expenses. My grandmother's sister was like NO WAY! There is plenty of money in her bank account to pay for that and my uncle inherited it all. She left her car with me since she could no longer drive when she got sick. My uncle threatened to call the police and say it was stolen if we didn't give it back. I can't remember now how we fixed the title but I ended up selling the car and giving all of that to my mother because she was left nothing. We think my uncle was able to manipulate her over all of her finances. Oddly enough, I was her medical power of attorney...not her children.
