it's always the same guy. Real nice but a little weird. He is old, and my DH and I have said in the past that it is sad that such an old man is still doing a physical job at his age. Anyway, we were talking and it turns out he's my age!! We went to school together. So much for him being an old man!

lol! sorry for the jolt to your subconscious! it's always a shock when I find out someone I think is 'old' is very near the age we are, too...
(years ago I asked my Grandma the question, 'what's it like to be old?' --she was probably in her late 70s at the time-- and her answer was 'I don't feel old inside.' As I get older, I understand more what she meant by that.)
eta: maybe working with all those chemicals for years wasn't great for your pest control guy's health, either, though.

Hahaha, on the "old" guy thing.
FWIW, we get an annual inspection that has been done by the same guy 10/12 years we have had the service. He reminds me so much of DH and comments on all his tools/equipment and projects around the house. I'm not sure if I ever want the two of them to meet.

This happens to me a lot. I’ll be describing someone to dh and saying they are old/older and when he asks how old I realize the age I think they are is actually pretty close to us! Lol it’s funny how the older you get you push back on how old “old” is.

IDK if this was supposed to make me laugh but it did. It reminds me of my favorite episode of The New Adventures of Old Christine. They decide to have a college reunion at a bar and she sees some old classmates at the bar, but she doesn't recognize them because they are OLD, and she freaks out.

This made me laugh so hard! My class of ‘83 reunion is coming up and it baffles me how these old people are posting on Facebook about their excitement to see everyone. Some of them look ancient!

I know I'm no spring chicken but some of my classmates look really old to me too, especially when I happen upon a pic of a guy who was everyone's crush back in school and he looks like someone's grandpa now (because he is!). But some of my classmates look fabulous, especially the girls whose looks I always admired. Seems they've held up well. One works for an aesthetician so I can see why. Maybe I should get trained to do injections and go work in a clinic!

We have been out to dinner and I'll glance over at another couple and think what a sweet "old" couple, then I look around and see that WE are the also an old couple. It's laugh or cry and I am choosing to laugh about it!

Ha! At the bank last week, the teller asked me if I graduated in the xx class and I told her yes. She said that "we" were having a reunion soon. I had to look at her name tag. I would have sworn I'd never seen that woman in my life but apparently we went to HS together. I did look up the classmate who was supposedly coordinating the reunion. She looked fabulous as does at least one other classmate who happens to work for a plastic surgeon.
I've run into about several other former classmates in the last couple of years that I know of and most of them I would have never known. They all looked so old! I can see changes in my face and body but surely I don't look that old.

I saw a way older woman (than me) at the post office wearing the same shoes that I was wearing. It traumatized me.

I see pictures of some of the girls I went to school with and they have old lady hair and wear grandma clothes! Why?? I’m 53. I wear old lady clothes because they are super comfy. And my hair lady is MIA. So I’ve decided to go gray. I’ve been dying my hair for 30 years, because young gray runs in my family (extended cousins and all). I’m just done. Working from home has made me lazy about my looks. My kids are the ones who make me feel old. DS’s football coach passed unexpectedly during his sr. year. I asked how old the coach was. And DS said oh he was super old. Like 50. I was like, my age? And that’s what I get for having kids as an older woman.

Oh my goodness, that made me giggle. I get it though, although I think I am aging well (it's in the genes, plus I've never smoked and hate being out in the sun).
My daughter has to be careful when recounting stories to me, she talks about 'old people' and I ask her to clarify and it turns out she means people around my age!
I'm very definitely at the stage of thinking that many professionals look like kids though.
ETA my profile pic needs updating, it's around 12 years old.
