ones of the fireworks.
We are going to the Freedom Festival here TODAY and it's one of our favorite days of the year. There's a great band, food trucks, vendors and fireworks, of course. We have glow sticks and sparklers and I'm having Jet's Pizza and Maggie Moo's ice cream (pre-meditated gluttony).
Sounds photo worthy to me! I think I'll take my big camera for the first time ever.
How about you?
I have years of 4th of July pics to scrap but now I guess they mostly go in my Project Life album. I'll need an insert for today's!

The last time we went to the fireworks was years ago, but I got really lucky and got good shots.
My problem scrapping July 4th photos is that the embellishments are always red, white & blue and my photos always clash.
ETA: Just got back from my sister's BBQ and I will confirm that none of my pics of the kids w/the sparklers turned out good. <sigh>

My cousin just took video of a storm. From her video she took pictures off of it. That may be a way to get good fireworks photos.

Yes...I'm currently taking a beginner digital photography class and this week's "homework" assignment is fireworks photos! I have a pretty basic camera so I'm not expecting great photos, but it will be fun to try.

I've had some luck setting my camera to take multiple photos all in succession to get a decent firework photo.
It helps because if I am trying to take pics one at a time, I always press the button too early or too late and miss the firework.
*In fairness, my idea of a "good photo" of a firework display and a truly good photo are probably differing. Haha

I won't be taking any July 4th photos unless something happens I don't know about.
I have taken some decent fireworks pics in the past and done some nice layouts. Mostly my patriotic holiday layouts are just some mediocre picnic photos I snap just to do a page.

I take a lot of pics on the 4th but most are just hum drum ordinary with a few good ones. I haven't mastered night pics and every year I say I'll learn the settings on my camera because its surely capable. Hasn't happened yet. Maybe next year...

This is a different kind of 4th for us our kids won't be home and it's a beautiful day here, so we are working in the yard and cleaning house and making potatoe salad and bbq for dinner. This is the first holiday i had off in 5 years but, is just a day off for me so taking pictures of the morning and the day and maybe the crazies here at night lol.

I've found a tripod is my best friend while taking fireworks photos. If you have a camera lens with automatic stabilization IS or VR make sure it is turned off if you are using a tripod.

I've only had one year that I took good fireworks pictures, and that was many years ago. Until this year, and boy was I surprised that my iPhone 4s did a great job with the fireworks! I didn't take my awesome DSLR today, and I am really pretty shocked at how good my phone did. It helps that almost all the pics were outside in natural light, until the fireworks, but WOW on those fireworks! (And I wonder if it made any difference that we were really close to where they were being set off... like 500 ft away.)
We're having a family cookout tomorrow, and I probably don't know if I'll take the DSLR or not. Since I'm still recovering from foot surgery, I can't get up and move around much to take pics, so am leaning towards not.
