So my morning routine at work is to check my 100's of emails that pile up over 3 days. Literally 100's.. it's insane. Anyways, I get through those, take a little break. May jump on here or check the local news. So I jumped on the news and this is newsworthy? www.9news.com/article/traffic/roundabout-weld-county/73-b51f6929-9a31-4c62-9ed7-e40b4a382706This is in a semi-rural area. Really? A new roundabout opening? This isn't like some six lane major city thing. I just had to laugh. Sometimes I wish news was really still like this.

Thank you for posting that. There are a couple of new roundabouts near me and I get a little anxious when I approach them. The more I do it, the better I am at it. Seeing the above visual of the difference between having one, and the regular stop signs, I can clearly see how much safer they are. A lot of cars run through stop signs and red lights around here. A roundabout is a much safer alternative.

I can’t open the link - maybe being in the UK? Oh maybe, it's from our local news. Maybe you can get to it directly? (KUSA 9News).. it's a Colorado station.

That looks like a pretty big project. It would make the news here since we don’t have too many roundabouts.
We have stories here that make the news and I tell my SO, must be a slow news day. 😆

I'm sure I would do fine as driving/traffic doesn't bother me much. Except in Miami. That was an experience I'll never forget. I was in a gas station parking area attempting to leave.. I was making a right turn, merging into never ending traffic. No one would let me in. NO ONE... cars waiting behind me were going around me and just pulling out into traffic. I guess that is how it is done there. So I just closed my eyes and pulled out, knowing I was gonna die. lol

I think if the drivers know how to use a roundabout it works. However the majority of the public in the USA do not and consequently it is not an improvement.

These are the types of roundabouts that I love--ones that keep me moving. I'm fine with slowing down for one because it means I don't have to stop at a light, or even worry about "will I or won't I have to stop?"
As long as the roundabout isn't too skinny or isn't an extremely busy intersection, I would much rather have a roundabouts than a light or stop sign...or worse, a 4-way stop sign!

My personal idea is that the roundabout works better in countries like UK where the traffic is on the opposite side of the road than in the US. In my mind it makes it easier to enter the flow. Don't know if that is valid or not.

You must live near my parents. They are in Winsdor.
I love a good roundabout. I feel like a race car driver going around a turn.

Don't know if that is valid or not. It doesn’t make any difference. 😊 In the UK, we go around roundabouts in a clockwise direction, but in countries where people drive on the right, traffic goes around the roundabout anti-clockwise. DS's GF is American and always freaks out at roundabouts here, saying that they’re scary! She was amazed though at how much better traffic flows when you don’t have to sit at lights for five minutes waiting for your turn. 😄

My area has dozens of roundabouts going back 20 years and people still can't drive them. Yesterday the driver in front of us stopped and waited to see where 2 cars were going. There was plenty of time to go forward. Of course then down the road she proceeded to stop before changing lanes. . Seniors ( I'm a member of that group) in our town say they make them so nervous they can't go out. They are not hard or there are alternative routes. I've been know to take alternative routes to avoid commute traffic and a train crossing. Most times I added 1 minute to my drive.

I have come to like roundabouts. I first hated them because the first one I ever encountered was and still is horrible. It's actually three in a row at a very busy intersection involving a freeway entrance exit, and two busy shopping complexes. I still hate that one. But others are great. We have one in our small town. It's easy and really helps traffic in that area. But lots of people freak out and stop etc, even after two plus years.

My city is adding its first roundabout as a test. Right next to the park where the senior center is located. There are tons of complaints about the location and the need. It’s not even a busy intersection. The city paper was full of comments about how lots of seniors, who’ve never had to regularly drive a roundabout are going to get into accidents. I guess we’ll see.

Traffic circles here.
Oh they have fixed some of ours... First they had the main roadway go directly through the center with traffic lights ... Now they have done bridges, one road over while the other goes under.
They just love disrupting our lives and traffic doing construction forever.

When our city started putting in more round about, there were several articles. Seeing how people use them incorrectly, I think it might have helped some. It might not be news as much as information for those living near the new roundabout.
What I should have read and payed attention to was the new (at the time) Filmore bridge where you stay on the left side of the bridge to go across it. All kinds of weirdness driving that the first couple of times.

I'd say it's local news worthy. It's probably been a need for quite awhile, probably been working on it for awhile also. It might relieve a big problem in the area. Probably cost a lot of money that was funded locally or maybe by grants. Just because it's rural doesn't mean it's not worth reporting.

Where I live, they put in some roundabouts. Within a year, starting removing them. There were accidents, on a regular basis. Everyone thinks they have the right of way and enter at full speed without any regard for car entering from the other three entry points, or one car will come to a complete stop at the entry point. It was scary going through one.
I avoided them, and was glad when they started removing them.

I love driving in the UK because of all of the roundabouts. Throw in gps that tells you which turn you want and it's epic!
In Carmel IN t hey have installed roundabouts at every intersection. It's irritating as fuck because first, Americans can't figure them out and secondly they are so close together that it creates mayhem because Americans can't figure them out. I would love to drive thru there when there are no other people there because it would feel like the teacup ride at Disneyland! 😆

I'm not saying because it is rural it doesn't mean anything, but putting it in a major city top news report is a little 'slow news day'. And it is over 60 miles from the main city. I semi know the area (there is not a lot of traffic) and it is a little silly (to me) for this to be news. But whatever.. it's fine. Seems like they are building them everywhere. Heck my house sits right on a neighborhood roundabout. lol

We call them rotaries in New England. And a LOT of people don't know how to traverse them! The one in my town has 5 spokes instead of only 4. There is a camera set up there, and if there is an accident someone will post in our town group and you can rewind the video and watch the accident. There's some crazy stuff that happens!

We've had a roundabouts here in Annapolis, MD for awhile now. At first I was a bit confused about going through them, but once I got the hang of them they seem to save time and are safer I think.
I was very grateful I had the experience of using roundabouts when we visited St. John last December. For the first time we rented a jeep for our entire stay (last two visits we stayed at Maho Bay Campground which is now sadly gone and didn't need a jeep) and in downtown Cruz Bay there is a roundabout AND they drive on the opposite side just like in the UK but the cars are built like here in the USA with steering wheels on the left side of the car if you are sitting in it. Luckily we only went into Cruz Bay a few times (it's the busy part of St. John) and our airbnb apartment was on the quiet side of the island in Coral Bay. Handling that roundabout took some concentration!

I saw that headline this morning and had the same thought, that's news? My friend, her daughter and I went to Loveland on Saturday and they LOVE those things. We had a "lively" debate on what they're called. I (rather emphatically) call them rotaries. They call them roundabouts. GPS called them traffic circles. It was funny. eta: Loveland loves rotaries, not my friend. That sounded weird when I saw it posted.

We just expected to take the one directly across from the one we entered from, but we got very confused!
