We call them rotaries in New England. And a LOT of people don't know how to traverse them! The one in my town has 5 spokes instead of only 4. There is a camera set up there, and if there is an accident someone will post in our town group and you can rewind the video and watch the accident. There's some crazy stuff that happens! My first ever experience with a rotary/roundabout was in New England and it had more than 4 spokes!! Traffic was light, so no problems there, but we didn't know which spoke to take!! We just expected to take the one directly across from the one we entered from, but we got very confused!  Sorry on behalf of New England!  |

Rotaries must be big news as we have one in the news also. Ours isn’t even completely done yet (very very close) and nowhere as big. A change in traffic patterns definitely is new here. 😁 New roundabout |

I'm from NH and had only ever heard them called rotaries until I lived in another state. My dad grew up in Vermont (way upstate though), and always called them rotaries too. |

Roundabouts are very common in Australia and they work really well. Keeps the traffic flowing and most people know how to use them.
A big one like this would be newsworthy for our area so not surprised it made the news.

We’ve had them here for quite a while and people still don’t know how they work. There are a couple near our house that I go through frequently and other people either gun it and come in totally hot or they completely stop at the entrance, both of which totally defeat the purpose.  If everyone would hit it at the posted 20 MPH it would work flawlessly. There is a really epic one that gets people totally confused because it is a series of about three of them combined with a half cloverleaf to get on or off the highway. It’s not for the faint of heart or the directionally challenged, LOL. ETA: FWIW, people here still don’t know how to zipper merge either, so there’s that. |

It is a beautiful area. I am at our camp now, I came up for 2 last days before we close it up next weekend. The leaves are really starting to fall, foliage is pretty close to the end now. This morning it was in the high 20’s and the lawn and deck (and cars) were all frost/ice covered. The steam/mist off the pond was heavy and it was a bright hunters moon last night. Our kid loon has gone (the parents leave first) so I know winter is coming. But it is beautiful no matter what the season.

We call them traffic circles. Several years ago we flew to England and picked up a rental car at Heathrow. We entered a traffic circle and DH was thrown off and had to exit immediately because he was not at all comfortable driving in the left lane and that really threw him for a loop! 😉😄
