The Scrapbook Expo came back to Texas this weekend after sitting out 2020 & 2021 due to COVID so I thought I'd do a review. My two besties and I went on Friday to shop. We did not do the crops, classes or Mega Make n Take. Cost was $10 to shop the floor and $10 for parking at the convention center. We were there for about two and a half hours shopping.
There were only 27 vendors total for this year. I think most know that several big vendors (Queen & Co, Paper Wizard) refused to come back after the Expo canceled in 2020 and did not refund vendors or customers (I was one of those customers and ended up getting a credit that I used to buy some stuff from the Expo website last year). Of those vendors there were two that I can recall that were not crafty related - a pillow company and some other gadget thing.
We arrived about 9:15 (floor opened at 9) and it was not very crowded at all. No line to get tickets or get in the door. There were people there just not at the level it has been in the past and I understand it is still rebuilding after COVID.
Craziest & busiest booth was definitely Photoplay. They had paper pack collections 4 for $20 and some great dies and stamps for $2-$3. I got 4 paper packs and several great slimline, mini slimline and regular card size cover plate dies for $3 each, some stencils $2-$3 and a 6x6 honeycomb stamp $3. Overall they had the best "show special" plus a free gift with a $30 purchase. Echo Park also had a deal with paper collections 4 for $25 and their page protectors were $3 for a pack of 10 (I picked up 5 of these - love their 12x12 page protectors). I found a booth with distress inks 4 for $20 so I picked up the 8 colors I was missing to have the complete set. I saw a couple of booths with 49 & Market paper and some of the newer collections - so pretty but I didn't pick any up. Lots of stamps and stamping products but I restrained myself!
Most of the vendor make & takes were charging a fee but we did do a free one with Rubbernecker Stamps and created a pretty layered stencil card front. If you've been to the Expos before Lorraine, the woman that used to do the Creative Station with the make & takes, now works with Rubbernecker & she did the make & take - love her!
The crop area was bigger than I thought it would be and it looked like there were plenty of people who decided to do the crop. It was right next to the show floor.
Overall, I was glad to see them back as I really like shopping in person and just the overall vibe of being around crafty people. I stayed within my budget and spent about $150 out of the $200 I had brought with me. We also got our lanyard and buttons for this year and they gave us one for 2020 too - I guess they got stuck with lots of them since the shows were canceled...
Hope this helps for anyone wondering about future dates!
