She was such a classy legend. I'm glad she had a good long life but I am still sad she is gone.

Lansbury died Tuesday, according to her family. She was 96 years old.
"The children of Dame Angela Lansbury are sad to announce that their mother died peacefully in her sleep at home in Los Angeles at 1:30 AM today, Tuesday, October 11, 2022, just five days shy of her 97th birthday," the family said in a statement.
Lansbury, born in 1925, was the daughter of Irish actress Moyna Macgill and British politician Edgar Lansbury. Her paternal grandfather was George Lansbury, a founder of the United Kingdom's Labour Party.
At age 9, Lansbury's father died -- a moment that she's said in interviews shaped her life. The actress' family then fled the U.K. in 1940 during World War II, moving to the United States where she began her acting career.

She was only 59 when Murder She Wrote started. Funny how I thought she was old back then and not so much now...

May she Rest In Peace. If you are a fan, and haven’t watched Gaslight, do yourself a favor and watch it. It’s a black and white, and stars Lansbury, Charles Boyer and Ingrid Bergman.

She had an amazing career both on stage and screen. I saw her perform with James Earl Jones in Driving Miss Daisy back in 2013. Outstanding performances from them both. I've been a huge fan for years and agree with mollycoddle, Gaslight is a sensational movie. I also love The Harvey Girls, The Manchurian Candidate, The State of the Union and my childhood favourite Bedknobs and Broomsticks. Not a week goes by without me watching an episode or two of Murder She Wrote, and I also listen to Cabot Cove Gazette, a podcast. While it's not entirely unexpected considering her age, I'm sad to hear of her passing. Part of me expected her to live past a century.

DH came home today and told me this. I was really broken up to hear it. I think I've reached an age where I'm rapidly losing the generation above me, kwim? And seeing people, even those I don't actually know, who have been a part of my life right along sucks no matter who it is. Plus as mentioned above, my grandmother loved Murder, She Wrote, so there's that as well. And of course, growing up there was Bedknobs & Broomsticks and such. Long ramble short, I'll miss her.

One of the last great actresses from The Golden Age. Talented, elegant and charming. Gaslight is a favorite movie of mine. I watch several episodes of Murder She Wrote every week. She will be missed.

I also loved her in Bedknobs and Broomsticks. I have only heard her singing from Sweeney Todd and of course it was divine, but I would have loved to see her in that one She was one of the greats.

She was only 59 when Murder She Wrote started. Funny how I thought she was old back then and not so much now... I was watching an episode of Murder She Wrote a couple of weeks ago, and I googled to see how old she was. Like you, I had thought she was quite old when the show first started in the 80s when I was a teenager. Not now - she was only four years older than me when it started!!

She was a beautiful woman when she was in her 20's and 30's and aged so gracefully. If there was ever an actress I wanted to meet and just pick their brain, she was it. She reminded me so much of my grandma even though my grandma was 10 years older than her.
I'm going to watch broomsticks and bed knobs this week. I love that movie.

She was on the PBS Masterpiece podcast, maybe 2020, talking about Little Women. I think it might have been her last role. Anyway, its a little shy of a half hour, but she had a lovely speaking voice and it was a great episode.

She was on my list of very elderly celebrities whose deaths I knew would really upset me. I am a huge musical theater fan, and she was a giant. She also always seemed like such a decent human.

Awww, I'm so sad to read this. We never missed an episode of Murder She Wrote. I will be checking which streaming service has it and start again. Her passing is a great loss to the entertainment world.

A friend used to tell me that when I aged, I would look like Angela Lansbury. I should be so lucky.

I am kind of shocked we haven’t mentioned Mrs Potts from Beauty and the Beast, it is low down on my Disney list, but she was great as Mrs Potts and it is hard not to love “Tale as old as time, song as old as rhyme…” sung by her.

If you haven't already seen it, this NY Times interview was recorded in 2010 on the understanding it wouldn't be released until after her death. The Last Word: Angela Landsbury
