I'm about to get started on a two page layout and have eight 4x6 pictures. That takes up a lot of real estate on a layout. I can crop two of them down to 4x4. Would you use this many 4x6 pictures or would you have ordered some or all of them in a smaller size? How do you feel when you have limited space to use your fun and pretty supplies? I love the pictures I have of this event but I also love to use my supplies. Do you tend to create picture heavy layouts or do you use fewer pictures?

This is why I like to print my own. When I used to do traditional pages, I would do more than 4 (single page scrapper 90% of the time) and max 3.5x5 for size.
You could always do fewer photos to have more play space, especially if you like to journal.

Elsabelle what about having a pocket to store extra photos or making some hidden behind others. You could take the page out to see them. Just another idea. OR another idea, have 1 page for photos and another page (page 1) with 1 or two and title, Journaling, fun items ?

I rarely scrap with 4x6 photos and if I do it is either one by itself or with a bunch of smaller photos such as 3x4, 2x3 and 2x2. I also try to stay clear of 2 page LOs even with 5+ photos. I will use pocket pages if I have a lot.
I just sketched out a single page LO for 9- 2x2 photos.

More the merrier…I add flip ups on the outside of the page protector and use magnets to keep them from flopping
Or attach 6x12 pocket page to one side.

If I have that many pictures of an event I usually resize some to 3x4 or something similar.

I often put more on one side than the other. I rarely get 8 on a double unless some of the pictures are smaller. I have some good sketches that use 8 photos, but you don't have room for much more.

I would probably use all the photos. If it is of one event, and I wanted to play with scrapbook elements with that theme, I might print one of the photos as 5x7 and put that one on one page with all the pretties, then collage or grid the other photos all onto the facing page: win/win!

I tend to use fewer photos--one to three for a single-page layout. But I did recently sign up for an Allison Davis 4x6 sketch class and was blown away by the creative ways she gets many more photos onto a spread. Worth looking into if you want ideas. I know she also sells sketch bundles at Scrapbook Generation.

Please link the sketches if you can. I could use some ideas. They are from different books using Scrapbook Generations. Their books all have different numbers of photos per page. I just make a copy of the pages and them put them in binders according to number of photos (they go up to 25). I have three very full binders.

I will look through the ones I have. Allison added so many options in her class sketches. No doubt I’ll find something there. Thanks for the reminder.

This is something I struggle with, because I have a hard time weeding out photos, but I also want my pretty papers and embellishments to show! My answer is, it really depends! There are some events that I don’t feel are “worthy” of more than one or two pages, and some that I can scrap endlessly. If it’s the former, then I try to fit as many of the pics I can and those pages are typically much less artistic. But I’m trying to remind myself that it’s ok to toss out a few photos, not every photo needs to be on the page!

With (8) 4x6 photos, I would do 3 or 4 page layouts. There have been times, when I've taken so many photos 100+ (hello! >> rolls of film....I used to take so many photos, because I never know what I would get until the film was developed), and then so many of the photos are good ones. I've done 10+ layouts for one event, party, gathering, etc.... I just looked and counted, the most was 17 layouts for one party. Since I switched to digital years ago, I take less photos, since I can immediately see if I've got good ones or not. These days, I live my life with the "I don't care what anyone else thinks" attitude and philosophy. They are my scrapbooks, so I'll make as many pages as I want to, for each event, party, gathering, get together, photo op, etc... My opinion is use as many photos as you want or don't want on your page layouts.

I used to be a cram as many photos as possible on a two page spread kind of scrapper.
Now I’m a scrap however the heck I want type of scrapper.
So instead of 8 cropped photos on two pages, I might have 8 photos across 6 pages.
It’s more enjoyable for me to scrap and use the stuff that I have than to try to cram it all in and “save” my stuff for future use.
That being said, I have over 100 albums and don’t care if there are 500 by the time I die. If space is an issue for you, then you might not take the same philosophy.

I'm a story-focused scrapper with a simple, clean, linear, modern, minimalist, & "magazine-ish" style who typically scraps 4x6 photos. If I determined all 8 photos were necessary to support the story that I want to document, the amount of journaling, not showcasing product, would dictate the number of pages (2 or more 12x12 &/or divided/pocket) for the layout. For 2-page 12x12 sketches using (8) 4x6 photos, check out the 4x6 Photo Sketch Blog, specifically Sketches 122, 137, 151, & 158 (that do not split photos across both pages). HTH.

When I have too many photos for a layout, I insert a pocket page to hold the "extra". I don't like to put too many photos on a page. I feel like they get lost.

I don't take the greatest photos + can tell the story better with my journaling so I don't generally use more than 1-2 photos on a page. That being said, if it's an event page and I have several photos I want to use, I will make multiple layouts vs. one layout with multiple photos. For instance, we went to the pumpkin patch this past weekend where I got a great photo of my mom + my oldest, my mom + my youngest, 2 photos of my BF + me + my kids (although in both pictures someone is not smiling -- sigh), a selfie with my oldest, my mom, & me + the regular activity photos + us picking out pumpkins. If I tightly cropped all the photos I could use most of them on a single page or double page spread but I'd rather scrap the good portrait shots separately. We also had an incident with my super melodramatic youngest who fell on his back and knocked the breath out of himself for a moment and then proceeded to wail and roll on the ground sure that he had broken both of his legs. I don't have any photos of that, of course, but it's going to turn into a family legend so I want to give it its own page as well. All told, I will likely have one page that features the actual activity/patch photos of which there are 3-4 good ones and then will have 3-4 pages with the portraits and the "incident."

I found a sketch a liked and went with it. I ended up scrapping until after midnight like in the good old days - my much younger days. It’s been interesting to read everyone’s different thoughts on how many pictures they prefer to use. It brought to mind another question I’ve been meaning to ask so I’m going to start a spin-off.

Im in the more the merrier camp. I will make 2+ pages if necessary and am also willing to use different sized inserts in between a 2 pg layout. I am older and not really a fa =n of photos smaller than 3x4 due to eyesight issues, although occasionally I do like 2x2 grids.

I really struggle trying to cram multiple photos onto layouts. I had some great photos of at a dinosaur museum, and recently tried to put all 8 photos on a double page layout. Even using a sketch, it was really challenging for me. I think overall, I prefer to do one special layout and then make an accompanying pocket page with the other photos and the story.

I would probably not use 8 photos on 2 12x12 LOs. Though I rarely do double page, I tend to only scrap 1-2 photos on a 12x12. At most 3. For extra photos that I love and want to include I will insert a separate page protector, like a 6x12 or one of the other funky combinations from packs of Project Life page protectors. That also lets me use more supplies, like extra pieces of pattern paper to fill the spaces. I've also used those flip flap type things to add more photos.
How do you feel when you have limited space to use your fun and pretty supplies? Just depends. Some layouts I go into with wanting the photo to be the focus, other times the story/journaling and other times supplies. I try to vary it up to keep it interesting.
Do you tend to create picture heavy layouts or do you use fewer pictures? fewer pictures

I regularly use 6-8 photos on a two page spread. I typically try to cut down the 4x6 into smaller sizes since I don't print at home.

I rarely scrap more than 4 photos on a 12 by 12 page, or make 2 page layouts, or make multiple layouts on one event. Reading recent threads on here, I'm starting to think I'm an anomaly in scrapbook world...
