If it’s a vacation or a long weekend away I’ll usually either do an 8x8 album or several layouts. Usually 4 or more layouts that will go in my regular albums. Disney vacations get their own 12x12 album. But if it’s a day trip or an outing I document it in one layout. A two page layout if I have lots of pictures. A day trip to a state park would be one layout and a three day weekend away would be 3-4 layouts or an 8x8 album, although I’m not doing those much anymore. Maybe due to covid and maybe because they’re a lot of work. I’ve noticed some scrappers scrap several layouts of the same event. What do you prefer?

Like, reusing the same photo? And for the same album? Never. But I've met lots of scrappers who make multiple albums, one for each kid, and they sometimes scrap the same photo for each of them.
I've made several multiple page layouts, like up to 8 or 10 pages, for events or vacations. Or special photo shoots; I have 3 DDs, so on the rare occasion they've let me take pictures of all three at the same time, I go nuts snapping photos!
Not enough pages to merit their own album, so they go in with my family album.

multiple layouts from the same day/weekend? Sometimes - it'll depend on the photos and the story
Fourth of July - probably a layout for fireworks and another one for our 4th of July meal - if we do something fun during the day, then a layout for that also.
A weekend away - will either be multiple layouts or an album of its own depending on what we did and how many photos we took.
Multiple layouts with the same photos? No - I don't do that.

Do you scrap it all on one layout? Or do you make one layout of little Tommy looking at the tigers and another layout of the cute thing Susie said about the gorilla?

For things like going to the zoo it's one layout, and probably called 'our day at the zoo.' I even cram my kids entire sports seasons into one page per year.
Only Christmas, and vacations get more than one page. I'm trying really hard not to have to add a scrapbook album storage wing onto my house...

This is one of the reasons I love pocket pages. I use 2 of the pockets for a title and Journaling. The rest are for photos. That can be between 2 photos and 7 photos.
For dd's high school graduation, one pocket is photos and Journaling.
You could do a layout and then as someone in another thread suggested, add a photo pocket page and just have photos with 1 pocket listing date, where, etc.

I will use however many I think I need to tell the story, or if I just really want to play with those photos. Zoo photos would probably get a double page with everything on it, but I might make two double page spreads if I had a lot of great photos I want to really show off. Christmas is usually two or three double page spreads: one for opening presents, one for lunch, and then one for whatever else happens that didn't fit on either of the other two pages.
Vacations I usually do a separate album, so I'll just pick my favourite photos for my PL album, and kind of do an overview of the trip in two or three spreads. I did a 5 week trip to the UK in 2019 and covered it in two doubles and two singles in my PL album. I don't want this to be completely missing from my PL album, because that would be a large gap, but I don't need to include all the detail, so it's a very different type of page.

Depending on the event or weekend, I could definitely do 3 or 4 double page spreads.

On some, including a zoo trip funny enough, the photos were all mixed up, and the pages were based on the orientation of the photos and how to max out the available space on the pages. Other times, I'll let the subjects of the photos determine how to organize the pages. If there are an abundance of photos of the same subject that I want to use, I might choose to group them together. Fewer photos of a subject might dictate a single photo page or a miscellaneous catch-all kind of page.

It depends on how many photos I have for that event or trip.
Birthdays - I might only have one or two photos that will then go on a dingle page. If I have 5 or more photos I will usually do a double page layout. Although for my son's and my birthday this year, I did a single page layout with SIX photos, but only because it was one of the Sketchtember challenges. Usually I would have done a double page for that many photos.
Christmas would be at least one double page . If I have lots of photos, I will do several double page layouts: one for us opening presents in the morning, one for the family Christmas photo shoot, one for lunch at my in-laws etc etc. If I have a really great single photo that I deem worthy of it's own layout, I will do a one-pager for that photo, and I might also include it on one of the double page layouts.
For a trip away, I will do one or more double page layouts, depending on how many photos. If I have too many photos from one day to fit on a double page spread, I will separate them into different parts of the day. We went to the beach for three days earlier this year, and for one of the days I will do one double page for DSO and I walking along the beach in the morning, another double page layout from when we took DS and his mates to the beach, another one when we went to the pier, and another one for sunset at the beach.
I generally don't make separate albums for anything. Pretty much everything would go into the same album. The only exception is the overseas trip to Vietnam (and our upcoming trip to Thailand). They will have their own albums / photo books.

I scrapbook more than one layout per event, gathering, photo op, etc... Some have one layout, some have more. I'd have to look through all my scrapbooks to be certain, The most I've done is 17 layouts for one event, it was a party.
All my layouts go in the same scrapbook, for the year. January to December. A couple years have two scrapbooks, January to June and July to December.

I have no preference, formula, or self-imposed rule; each event may prompt zero, one, or multiple related stories. Since my scrapbooking is story-focused, the amount of journaling & photos needed to convey each story determines the number of pages (12x12 &/or divided/pocket) &/or layouts created.

Fewer photos of a subject might dictate a single photo page or a miscellaneous catch-all kind of page. I often make multiple pages with photos from one weekend or even one day, then nothing for the rest of the month. Depends on the stories I want to tell, photos I have, interactions between people or between people and the environment. Is it the first time we have done this? A concert by a band that is really important to one of us? Maybe one LO just about the activity or venue. Not usually worried if each kid gets their own page. If Tommy was enthralled with the tigers--and, say, I had some tiger print pp --that might get its own page or two, but I wouldn't look for something to scrap about Suzie that day, unless what she said about the gorillas was hilarious... (Or if Suzie has just pointed out to me that I NEVER scrapbook about her anymore...)
PS. Just got a text from my oldest dgs (in his 20's) with a photo and a comment: "I think I look pretty good in this one, and it is definitely scrapbook worthy" LOL.

grammadee that is adorable about your son hinting hard for a scrapbook page. Lol I love when our “big kids” are still all about the scrapbooks. ❤️

I make as many pages as it takes to tell the story using the photos I have printed. For some of DS17's sports I make at least a one-page LO per game I take pictures at (and it's usually every game), but some games might take a couple of pages depending on what I got for photos. A trip to the apple orchard might take up to 8 pages (most of which are pocket pages).
If the photo(s) are of just one of my sons, the layouts go in that son's book. If the photos are of both, the layouts go in a family album. The only exceptions would be if I need to tell two completely different stories about a single event--generally the majority of the photos are used for the one son's album, but some are used for the other son's album to tell his story of the event (usually why he was dragged to it). The bulk of the photos for each of their birthdays go in their individual albums, but I always make a simple one-page LO for the family album using leftover pictures.

My current zoo formula is usually one photo of people with the rest of the layout being the animals. I usually try to find a person photo to put on an animal page. In the past I've made a lot of just animal pages, though. I love animal photos. I just like to remember how little the kids were when we went to the zoo all of the time. I make as many layouts as I have decent photos. A lot of my layouts are just one photo, but I have pages with 3 or 4 photos, and also some 2 page layouts. I'm all over the place. I don't like 4 4x6" on a layout, though. Not enough room for the embellishments. So usually I'll cut the photo down. I don't usually print in sizes besides 4x6 but I will cut those photos down. For example: I have 4 pages of my oldest nephew's graduation (2 one photo ones, and a 2 page layout with 7 photos.) I have 5 pages of marching band- a one photo layout and the rest are 2-3 photos per layout.

For me it just depends on the amount of photos I have for each event/trip. For example, over Labor Day we did a long weekend trip but during that trip we attended our nephew's retirement ceremony from the Marine's (took lots of pics so will easily be a 2-page layout, maybe 4 pages), plus we went tubing in the river 2 days (again, lots of pics so at least 2-page layout) plus we had meals out with family & took pics there (probably another 2-page layout).
I've done mini albums for events as well if I had lots of photos. My bestie & I went to Pawhuska for a two days to go see all the Pioneer Woman stuff (restaurant, lodge, etc) and I ended up making a mini album for that trip.
I also have some albums of places we go to multiple times (Orange Beach in Alabama) and I add to that album each visit with 6-8 2-page layouts of our trip. We typically go there 2-3 times a year so I am up to 2 3-ring scrapbooks for Orange Beach at this point.

I usually have a traditional 2 page spread with a pocket page of overflow photos/stories inserted in between the two pages to capture the whole day.

Yes I do but I also try to limit to 2 pages if I can, and I break up the layouts by some kind of theme. Like the ice show. I do a page of Elsa, one of Mickey and Minnie, one of Dgd watching and one misc. So 4 pages minimum of that 2 hour event.

I go by how I feel. If I have pictures I want to scrap and stories I want to tell - I'll keep going making pages from a one day outing. Same goes for vacations or other events. There could be one page or twenty.

Interesting question Elsabelle. And interesting answers. If (very rarely) I have a special trip to sb, I might do an entire album or mini-album. But I guess my typical method is to use as many layouts as it takes. For some b'days I might struggle to come up with 1 l/o and others might be 2 or more pages. I very rarely sb the same photo twice although I have done that with some older photos since I don't have very many pictures of "back when". Also maybe when I convert a photo to b&w just for fun.

All long vacations get their own 11x12. If it’s a shorter vacation, especially to a place we have been before, I will combine 2-3 trips in the same album.
I don’t scrap a ton of other events. I scrap birthdays in 1-2 LO’s. Other events, it totally depends on what it is, and how many different types of things that are involved. For instance, if we went to a fall fair I’d scrap about the rides, pumpkins, whatever other things we’d do, so it could end up being 2-4 LO’s maybe.

Fun question. Once at a crop my friend commented that I would do a whole album on a weekend trip and she would do just one layout. Guess I have no problem scrapping more than 1 layout about an event! 😃

It's been interesting to read all of your comments. We had a family event a couple of years ago and I have tons of pictures from it. I've been thinking about which pictures I can eliminate to do one 2 page layout. I tend to not think outside the box but this thread is helping me think about doing multiple layouts for this event. I normally wouldn't do that.
