And do you prefer to use a lot of color with your supplies on a layout with black and white pictures or do you use neutral colors? Whenever an order of pictures comes in I always wish that I had edited some black and white. I'm picky about editing pictures, though. I only want to use b&w if the contrast is just right. I love the timeless feel of them. I'm going to make a point to include some in my next order.

I've only used black and white when the original was black and white - which means, for me, they've primarily been baby pictures and I've used soft colours and grey. But I think part of the fun of editing photos to black and white is to be able to use colours that work with the theme but not the photo colours or to use a particular collection/colour scheme that might not work well with the colours in the photos.

I have scrapped b&w only when the original was black and white. And then I try to remember that although the PHOTO has no colour, the actual setting DID, so I try to make my page reflect that. I don't think I would intentionally print a pic that way. Maybe if I knew more about how to use my camera and set it to take a b&w photo...

Not very often…. I scrapped last years Halloween photos in B & W because my kids costumes and the color of Halloween paper always clash. I’d like to do it more often but usually forget to order them that way…

I probably convert to B&W about 1 of every 50 photos I print? I just did a B&W 5x7, it was a great picture of my kids and their cousins but all the colors were distracting from their great smiles, so it's usually for something like that. I will once in a while do a main photo in B&W and the supporting pics in color on one layout. Usually I pair B&W with bright prints, although that's most of what I do anyway. I did a layout with a white cardstock base and very subtle colors with a B&W photo a few months ago and remember really liking it.
I print most of my prints on my Epson PM400 and I always wonder if doing some B&W prints will shorten the print cartridge usage, since it's just one print cartridge and I haven't noticed that it does.

I have not used a black and white photo or a sepia tone photo for a really long time, that is something that I should use again. I am a colour girl so I would usually have lots of bright colours but I also loved the look of black and white photos with black white and silver, although it has to be the right photo for that colour combination. I liked black and white for candid photos or for when the photo was a bit out of focus, it definitely helped to soften that blur for me. I have not scrapped a traditional layout in a really long time and am only doing project life for the moment while I study so I haven't thought to do black and white. I will have to change that when I get bac to 12x12.

I very rarely scrapbook with black and white photos. I like my photos to show what was actually going on color-wise.
I also don’t match my paper to my photos. I mention that because a lot of videos I watch the scrapper turns their photo to black and white because it doesn’t “match” their paper.

I always use black and white. I like that because I never have to worry about matching papers.

When there’s too much clashing going on in my layout, I use a B&W photo. I think 1/10 photos sounds about right.

I haven't converted a colour photo to b&w in years, the only b&w photos I use now are ones that were taken that way, usually heritage photos. As grammadee said, although the photo is b&w the setting wasn't so my more recent pages use colours that I feel are appropriate, which means brighter, more fun prints for one of my grandmothers, and small florals in natural tones for my other grandmother.
I used to convert photos often, it was pretty trendy for a while, but my thinking completely changed one night when my Dad and I were flipping through a box of b&w photos from his childhood and several of the stories they prompted involved the colour of objects in the background. When he was talking about the coral and yellow car they owned, I realised how important it was to me to be able to see those details on my current photos.

I have used black and white photos at least a couple of times in every album of mine. I like the way it looks but it’s usually because of too many clashing colors.

I just ordered some photos in black and white. I typically only do it if there are too many clashing colors but sometimes I just think a photo will look really neat in black and white.

I tend to use more b&w for people, faces, group shots. As a family, we always remember to take a photo when we are indoor at night and the lighting is horrible, so I tend to convert those.
I print at home a lot, so I will try color and b&w for some LOs so I have options.
The PicTapGo app has several recipes of b&w conversion. I tend to use the powdered, which is lighter for people/faces. There are higher contrast recipes, almost gritty on some that can have a cool effect if it's something more moody/arty.

I like to turn a photo black and white either where it captures the mood of the photo better, or where I have a particular collection in mind and the subjects in the photos are wearing colours that really don't work together or with the supplies.

I just happened to do three layouts last month using B&W photos. I changed my photos to B&W for different reasons:
1. I wanted to use a particular kit, and the colours that my kids were wearing did not match
2. 7 photos of my son over a 6 month period, and the colours were different in each one - pastels, bright red, black, green, bright orange, navy, pink. I used a new kit I'd bought, which was blue and green.
3. Photo with 7 people all wearing different colours, and a garish couch in the background.

I don't think I have ever scrapbooked a black and white photo, now that I think about it.
Hmm, perhaps this is something new I can give a try.
