11-17-2022
The Republicans took control of the House. What was at the top of their “to do list”? Work on solutions to bring inflation down? Find ways to stop crime? Come up with a plan to “secure” the southern border?
Nope they are going after Hunter Biden.
So the topic will be do you think the Republicans in Congress should investigate Hunter Biden, a private citizen?
Keep in mind he is being investigated by the DOJ for tax invasion and not completing a gun registration form correctly or something like that.
In my thread about the GOP and it’s plans I posted a couple of tweets about how the GOP can justify investigating a private citizen. From one of the tweets…
”in other words, it's framed as an investigation of Joe Biden not because they necessarily have the goods on Joe Biden but because they need to come up with a reason as to why this is a legitimate use of congressional oversight authority”
11-7-2022 - new poll about the midterms
The number as I end the poll may only be one and that is the bimbo in AZ who lost the race for governor. But otherwise it’s been quiet.
I’m changing the poll to include “if they lose” in the question.
How many Republican candidates, if they lose, will challenge the election results?
10-26-2022 - new poll about twitter 24 responded about leaving twitter or wait & see now the Musk owns it. 4 - leaving 20 - wait & see.
10-24-2022 - today’s poll is not political.
The question popped into my head while I was die cutting snowmen.
I don’t think they do based on what I read earlier today.
So rather then doing a thread just about this question, which few people would answer because of potential responses to their comments I decided to start a thread of misc polls. A place to safety answer these questions.
I will do yes/no questions and when I end one poll and start a new poll I put the results before a new question is posed.
First up “Do you think the Republicans have the best interests of the American People at heart?”

I think that this is an odd question because I believe if one is of a certain party, they will vote the opposite because in general, eveyone thinks theire ideas, beliefs are the only right way. ha! Even in religions, people think theirs is the right way. I think a Republican in their own mind feel they are doing the right thing and in the best interest of the people. I think the Democrats in their own mind feel they are doing the right thing and in the best interest of the people. Which is right or wrong? If I'm a Repulican, I will say the Demcrats are not and if I'm a Demcrat, I'm going to say the Republicans are not. I think that question does not win-win answer.

Until Trump, I did believe both parties just had different ideas of how to do it but were working toward the same goal about making life better for Americans. Now, with so many GOP retirements and the quality of GOP elected officials who beat incumbents, now I don't think so. I think Trump getting as close as he did to reelection, despite all the illegality, the unwillingness to accept election results, general ignorance, incompetence and intentional harm... I think too many people learned that they don't actually HAVE to make things better to get elected. So they aren't. Now it doesn't matter who is harmed as long as their circle pays less in taxes and has an increasing profit margin. Voters don't really think the quality of their life changes by who is elected. Like I said before, somehow America and American freedoms will still just exist somehow and they go on living as they did before. Retired and former GOP politicians have said as much, but since they are now branded as "RINOs" they are just more voices that can be ignored.

I think it depends on which people you’re talking about. They have their own best interests, and the best interests of their own families, businesses and donors in mind when they put up (or obstruct) legislation. They are definitely not the party of “a rising tide lifts all boats” and are more, “get out of my way, I need that lifeboat more than you do.”
I truly think the only way that our political situation will drastically change for the better is if we can change the way campaigns are financed. Good candidates never have a chance to get elected because they lack the funding that the lifers in office are raking in hand over fist. There is far too much money donated in shady, invisible, untraceable ways and that unfairly influences how our politicians vote. Unfortunately since so many of them from both parties are under someone’s thumb it’s not ever going to happen. And if God forbid the repubs get a majority in either house after this election, we’re going to be on an even more slippery slope toward authoritarianism which would make things even worse.

I can't answer the question as asked. Do I think Republicans have the best interests of Americans at heart? Yes, if we're talking about someone who identifies as such, but is just a regular working person. A Republican politician, especially higher up? No, unfortunately I believe that most of them want power. And money. But mostly power. But the probably also have convinced themselves that their beliefs and power are what will benefit Americans most.

I think that [many of them] they think they do. I would say the same thing about all the political parties here in the US though, that just seems obvious. 🤷🏻♀️

Polls pitting Republicans against democrats on here is a waste of board space. It’s been obvious since the very first political post here that this place leans left so no matter what the question is the outcome is always going to be the same.

Republican politicians? No. I also don’t think a lot of Democratic politicians do either because I think power protects power; however, I think there are some democratic politicians that honestly do care and try and very very few Republicans.
And it really comes down to the fact that most republicans/conservatives, particularly in a MAGA party, are hyper fixated on individualism and refuse to see the complexity of our interconnections and examine the systems they profit from.
How can you have the best interest of a country/world when your view is fixated on yourself and your own?

I think the polls are pretty useless because we know who thinks what around here first off. And second, not to knock you onelasttime but your bias (which I happen to agree with 90%of the time) skews the question in the polls to an obvious answer. And well, I pea 90% of the time from my phone and can't see a poll anyway.

Let me qualify, I think people who are part of the Democratic party have the country's best interests at heart. Do I think the politicians do, no. I think professional politicians from both parties have been in power too long. I think they are in it for the power and their own interests.

It’s been obvious since the very first political post here that this place leans left so no matter what the question is the outcome is always going to be the same. IMO it has changed from the old board (when I first started reading) where the split was not as big but I think it leaned toward being more conservative. I think it has cycled and back then many of the prolific posters were right leaning. Ebb and flow like with most things in life…again just the opinion of a left leaning pea. 😄😄

I had no intention of posting any comments on this thread. The purpose of these poll questions is for folks to ponder something. Wait until you see the next question. 😀
Its also a way for folks to give their opinion without running foul of those who are less then diplomat in their responses when they disagree with them.
And we don’t know for sure if there are more left peas then right peas on this board, but we do know those on the left are more willing to voice their opinion then those on the right. The right peas were not shy in voicing their opinions about President Obama and Hillary Clinton but seem to have become less vocal with their thoughts since we entered the age of “trumpism”.
Now after thinking about it, I think the question should have been worded “Do you think the Republican politicians …..
Like I said above I’m also going to try and pick questions that might make one ponder the subject even after they respond to the poll, if they do.
Sometimes a simple question is the best way to get folks to take a hard look at a subject.

Poll # 1 ended. 91 peas answered the question “Do you believe the Republicans have the American People’s best interests at heart”
11 said yes 80 said no.
New Poll question..
New poll is based on this tweet. I don’t think he’s joking but is serious. But regardless there are those who feel if one does not believe as they do then you are unAmerican. We also have politicians who are busy trying to or are passing legislation that dictates that all must abide by their values.

This is a bizarre thread even for you. You keep changing the OP and the replies that were posted no longer apply to the poll that was there at the time. That's not right to attribute posts to a person that no longer match the poll or OP they replied to.

Masked people with guns watching ballot drop off boxes is creepy.
I’m glad that ours are at manned locations like at city hall and the library. Yes someone checks to make sure you have signed and dated the envelope and if dropping off more than one the person dropping off another persons needs to sign as well and I think write why. We can mail them to.

I’ve already voted by mailing in my ballot.
It’s just the idea these guys watching people vote and taking pictures and writing down their license plate numbers while covering theirs.
Its not right.

Our drop boxes are at the same places where early voting is happening, which is mostly at government buildings and county courthouses. There’s a big parking lot out front of where we go for early voting plus it’s at the courthouse so no one sitting there watching would know if you were going there to vote or for any other reason.

I was just listening to some music and it came to me the question for this poll.
In your opinion what was the best decade for popular music?

So you’re starting a new poll on the old thread, deleting the original poll so the comments won’t make sense at all?
