My supervisor was telling me about a box of stuff she got from her grandfather. She is like I have no idea what to do with it. I jokingly said I would make her a scrapbook. She said OMG I would PAY for you to do that. (I'm not in it for the money). I brought some stuff to work for her to look at and see if she likes it. Can't wait to see how this goes. I think I need her to give me a low down on what she wants.. and what I need. Everything I have in my stash is what I need. I think after we talk today, we can come up with an agreement on pricing and what she needs to buy (or I can buy and give her receipts for). I think other than a book, page protectors, adhesive.. stuff like that, she can buy that upfront. Paper, embellishments and all that kind of stuff I will use out of my supplies and come up with a price for that.. (I'm not worried about what I use of my existing stuff.. I own like a small store..lol).. if I use pricey embellishments I will take in account for that of course. She is very fair (she has paid me good money to clean her house.. which was clean to begin with..lol) I feel this will also get my out of my rut. .which I have been working on anyways.

How fun!! It sounds like a great way to get out of a rut and use up some of your stash. It sounds like you'll be able to work out a fair deal with her.

That's an adventure workingclassdog! Here's hoping it will help you with some new ideas to get you out of your "rut". Will she have you tell the stories behind the photos or will you leave her space to do her own journaling? Have fun with your new project.

Good question!

That sounds awesome! My coworker was going to do the same thing (her kiddo came to our work conference with her this year, and she was going to ask our staff for short letters to him [I'm pretty sure he did more work than some of our actual staff...]), but it never transpired.

Make sure you factor in the time it will take you. Establish an hourly rate (or a flat rate for your time) along with the costs of the products. Your time is worth money!

I'm glad you're excited about this project, it should be fun!
I've only done that once, way back when I used to do traditional paper scrapbooking. It was for one of DSO's friends, and was an album for her son's graduation. I didn't charge her much above the cost of materials, so I certainly didn't do it for the money. I didn't really enjoy it, because I was worried that she wouldn't like it, or that she would think it was too expensive for what she got, even though I could have charged her a shit ton more for my time. She really liked it though. I swore I'd never do another one.

I made one for my boss for his daughter’s soccer memorabilia (one year of club and high school). I charged him for supplies only. I enjoyed the challenge to scrapbook differently. He gave me a gift card for payment anyway.

I used to make three to four scrapbooks a year for other people. I usually constructed the whole thing (rather than fill a pre-made album), and they tended to be for special birthdays, anniversaries, etc. I used to put many hours into them, and even though my customers were always delighted, I didn’t get a whole lot of pleasure from them. I used to add lots of journaling spots but I have no idea if my customers ever used them! I stopped about four years ago because I didn’t make enough money from them, and they just stressed me out. 😕
