dd (adult) has a swollen elbow. Began last night, basically was swollen enough there was no definition to the elbow. There was no pain, she just said she noticed the swelling and as it continued to swell it was making her hand/arm ache.
Oddly enough mid-day she said I think my other elbow is swelling. About an hour later it was obvious it was swelling.
She was directed to Urgent care by her MD. They said the swelling was due to a virus. She's not sick, she said she felt like she had a cold a couple days ago, but is fine now. She did have a flu shot 4 days ago. My first thought yesterday was swelling was due to injection, but arm swelling then was opposite arm.
I've never heard of a virus causing joint swelling so i'm a little concerned if this diagnosis is possible. She doesn't have joint pain, no fever and the areas are not hot or red.

I have bursitis in my elbows. The right is swollen where you would lean in your elbow. The first time it happened 3 years ago it was infected. Hot, red, hard.. needed antibiotics.
Now it just swells. It was drained in July, but has filled again. So far just a nuisance.. it just 'flops' around.

Anytime I have an infection, my joints swell. The pain can be worse than the flu.
They think it was a virus that caused my dairy/onion/garlic intolerance. It was like a switch had been flipped.
Viruses are weird.

That. My friend took her DS(12) to the ER because he was having vision issues (could not see!). Turns out it was due to swelling behind his eyes caused by the flu (influenza A).

It sounds like side effects of the flu shot.

My son had this at 19yo. The doctor pretty much said the same thing as yours and called it bursitis. It took a while to dissipate and it looked terrifying. But it eventually went away and didn’t come back again.

Our bodies are weird.
Seriously, when I had COVID I was 6 days out from having a helix and lobe pierced. Different ears. My left ear swelled to the point I was afraid the piercing would embed. If I could have removed it, I would have. Too swollen and my piercer is 1.5 hours away. Not that I would have exposed them.
Ever since, my left ear has been a gauge of any inflammation. The piercings are too new to remove when they are acting up.
My co-worker has a different auto-immune disease. COVID made her piercing jewelry impossible to wear.

This happened to me once, about 20 years ago. I got a cold, and then a few days after I felt better I had horrible knee pain and swelling. It went away after a couple of days, but it was scary. The doctor said it was likely caused by the cold virus. 🤷🏼♀️
