My Platinum 6 plates had warped so bad that yesterday I had to do the Jennifer McGuire boiling water method twice on both plates to get them flat. It worked perfectly, so that was great. 😁
Afterwards, I noticed that my bottom plate is very very well loved. So my question, at what point do you toss the worn plate?
Also, are there any other uses for worn plates?

For my Gemini, I toss them when they're so warped that the dies start falling off them. That doesn't happen much with the newer plates, but the old ones were terrible.
For my Big Shot, I keep them until the markings start leaving an impression on my cardstock. That usually doesn't start to happen for a long time. They don't warp either.

I toss them when they start leaving marks on my paper. For my Gemini I use the double sided green plates and toss them when chunks of plate start flaking off.

Add on question. Does anyone run their plates thru the dishwasher. I’ve seen a video on Gina Ks site where she mentioned doing that. Do you also run it thru the dry cycle?

I have a hard time tossing them. I think I have when it feels impossible to get a good cut. It’s been a long time now. I purchased the magic mat from sb.com and use it for the bottom - so it might end up being years before I throw out the plates.

I put a small piece of washi on one side and flip them every few cuts. I always use the same plate for the bottom and I keep the top plate uncut. So one plate is always cut into and the other is not (does that make sense?) and I get very little warping. I use the bottom plate until I don't get good cuts and I need to start shimming. Then I use the top plate for the bottom and rotate in a new plate for the top . I have a stack of old plates.
I've soaked them in hot water and scrubbed to get the paper fibers out. Also tried a lint roller. I haven't tried the dishwasher method. Do you run them with dishes?
BTW - I use a Spellbinders P6.

I haven't had to toss plates for years now. I'm using a selfhealing mat in my sandwich. I do have to toss those when they get to cut up or warped and heating them up with my heat gun and than put it under a stack of paperpads doesn't help any more.
I never used the dishwasher, is that just fot cleaning them or the heat supposed to do anything? In my opinion JM's hot water method would work better because she puts it between a flat surface with heat.

Here is a photo of my old plates. They are very used but not warped. I probably could get more use from them... Attachments:

I am extremely resistant to throwing them out even when they're very warped and cut up because I hate throwing stuff away. I always switch my top plate to be the new bottom plate but I delay doing that too. I haven't found any another use for the plates. I also have a Magic Mat that I stopped using (but didn't throw out) because it was really warped but it looks like I should try this solution: I'm using a selfhealing mat in my sandwich. I do have to toss those when they get to cut up or warped and heating them up with my heat gun and than put it under a stack of paperpads I ordered an extended plate set from amazon a couple of years ago and they sent me a box of 6 sets instead of the single set I paid for but even that hasn't gotten me to replace my old plates faster. I'm still using the first set!

Thanks for the feedback. I think I have a lot more life in my bottom p,ate but wanted to check to see what everyone else does. 😁 stormsts yep this is it. My sink isn’t big enough so I put a piece of plywood (about the same size as my cookie sheet) on my counter top and put the cookie sheet on that and did this right next to my stove. It did take 4 boiling sessions (2 times for each plate) but my plates are perfectly flat now.
