How do you use your digital files, like paper and stuff?
I'm pretty good with knowing what layered templates I have. That's not a problem. All my stuff is well organized so I can find it.
But when you're scrapping, have you printed out all the files in advance, like when you get them? Or even just the ones you want to use?
If you don't and you're making a layout and you need paper, how do you choose?
I have bought some digital collections but they're not really getting used.
When I'm making a page, I usually go through all my paper until I find what I need. It's not working for me to have the digital files.
And I don't want to print everything out because I have paper from 20 years ago that I haven't used. It will be a waste of physical space.
I'd really love to hear your methods. I need ideas.

I have the same problem. I have a few digital collections, but have only remembered to use one of them.
I was hoping to print out my favorite sheet of the collection, add a sticky note mentioning the digital kit, and then file that away with my normal stash. That way, as I flip through, I can "see" my digital collections.
I just have not gotten around to it yet. Maybe I should add this to the "to do" list for this week. 😄

I only print what I want to use. Yes, it takes some pre-planning but otherwise the cost adds up as I use Office Max to print my stuff.
For projects like DD, I have a good idea if I am going to want to use certain papers and will print those ahead of time but otherwise, I only print as needed. For DD I also print out any embellishments I plan on using.

I was hoping to print out my favorite sheet of the collection, I'm wondering if people print "swatches" of their patterns so instead of printing out everything, they have swatches like for ink. Is that what you're thinking? That would take a lot of time but I don't have a lot yet. And I certainly don't need to print out every pattern in the collection. For DD I also print out any embellishments I plan on using. I've never printed out an embellishment. I can't even get my head around cutting them out. I want my stuff to look clean but my hand cutting skills aren't perfect enough. Do you use the silhouette to cut?

As a digi SBer, I have lots of digital kits. To view what's in my stash I still use Picasa. (I know it's really past time to upgrade, but my stuff has been in there since I started digi it's tagged). You can also view in your operating systems File Explorer by making the thumbnail extra large icons (Windows, not sure about Mac)
Most kits come with a preview page, like the cover of a paper pack. I tag that as "preview" and can easily scroll through to find what fits my layout/mood.
I use Photo Shop Elements to work on my pages.

A related question: when you do a hybrid page, what printer and what paper do you use? I have a standard type HP office inkjet printer. Have been playing around with the idea of purchasing a 12x12 laser printer when this one quits. Right now it probably costs me as much to print a page as it would to buy one, and not sure how long ink jet printed pages hold their colour.

Is that what you're thinking? That would take a lot of time but I don't have a lot yet. Nope, I wasn't planning on printing swatches. Just my one favorite paper. If I see that, along with the note, I can decide if I want to look at the whole collection or not for a particular layout. If you print a cut apart sheet from the collection, you will see all of the colors and motifs used throughout it. That may be your best bet.

I usually print on demand. I am pretty good at remembering what I have by brand and theme. I don’t remember the exact patterns but I know I have sat nelly and Clem’s Halloween collections. So then when I want to do something I pull it up and print out what I want. I also tend to print and cut all the embellishments and stick them in an envelope so next time I go to grab supplies I see them and it also helps to jog my memory.
It’s an imperfect solution. I’m sure things are just sitting on my computer. I also tend to not buy just because. I buy and use it immediately so that helps to know I used it all at least once.

when you do a hybrid page, what printer and what paper do you use? I have the inkjet printer that Ali Edwards was using several years ago. When I went to buy it, they had a new one out so I bought that one. It's just 8.5X11, not 12X12. I've been printing for years and I've not seen any problems with color in my old albums. I think she knows what she's talking about so I would buy what she uses if I were to buy a new printer today. I also can't find a link to the paper I use but it's the white cardstock that Laura Wonsik recommended for stamping on during product play last year. I think it's great. I bought a ream of 500 sheets. Super smooth. Epson also has a double-sided matte presentation paper that I like for printing TNs. It's thin and doesn't bleed through. But it's way more expensive than regular cardstock.

I do both because print and cut is always sorcery but the last couple of times I did it it worked so well. I have never felt so powerful.

I print on demand as others have mentioned. When I start a project, I'll look through my digital supplies to see if anything in them will be relevant to what I'm working on and go from there. When editing photos I'll sometimes add a digital stamp. Sometimes I'll create a page of digital elements when I buy a new kit and print them then cut them out with my silhouette. A related question: when you do a hybrid page, what printer and what paper do you use? I have an Epson XP-8500 that can print up to legal size, I used to have a wide format printer but I wasn't using it as much and it was almost 20 years old so I got rid of it. If I do print digital paper, I'll just print it 8.5x11 and use bits of it, or I'll make pocket page cards out of them.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. It definitely feels like magic when it works right!

I have a folder for each set I have downloaded for free or that I paid for.
I think plan out my pocket page and if I want to use a download, I will select the folder I am looking to use and scan what I have. Then I will open it in PS and alter as needed.
I have combined files and even changed the colors to suit my needs.
I think print and use.
I dont use any of the cut files. Just papers, cards, and images to create my own pocket inserts.
