Hello hello! First of all, sorry if this is against the rules and I missed it somewhere. I've never even posted here before (yay for lurking ), I just honestly didn't know where to even start. I've got a whole room that is my "scrapbook room", but it's been YEARS since I even did any crafting. I'm considering going through my supplies and purging a lot, and depending on how much stuff I've got that I no longer use, selling quite a bit of it. Probably paper, stamps, stickers...that's all just off the top of my head. I've never used etsy or ebay to sell anything, so I'm not sure if that would be a better route vs. trying to sell stuff here or at another forum (do any other scrapbook forums even still exist?!). Anyway...hopefully all of that made sense. I guess in a nutshell, 1) can I even sell stuff through here or is it against the rules, 2) would anyone be interested, and 3) how do I even go about doing it? I'm just looking to possibly free up some room in my house for my other hobbies and make a little extra $$$. Thanks in advance!

There aren't many scrapbook forums (or independent forums in general) left these days. Most of the internet has amalgamated down into corporate offerings.
You can sell stuff here, but you need (25? I think? Someone correct me if I'm wrong!) posts to see the buy/sell sub-forum. It's not the most active place but if you have desirable collections/items that are decently priced, it'll move. I'd probably try here if I was US-based before heading off to Mercari, etsy, eBay or Failbook. Each platform has various hoops to jump through and most have fees for listing and % of final value 'tax'.
As for how to go about it, depends on how much effort you want to put in, what kind of items you've got, and how quickly you want it gone. At the minimum you'll need to take a picture of what you've got to sell and brief notes about what condition it's in (like new, gently used but complete, missing X of Y, etc.) and the ability to accept some kind of electronic fund transfer. A general idea of how big things are and how much that'll cost to ship is also helpful.

I got that feeling that not many forums existed anymore...I miss them Not long after I posted my original post, I saw the FSOT rules post--see what I mean about me being non-observant haha. That makes sense about needing to have a certain number of posts in order to buy or sell. I may have to start posting a bit just so I can have the option of selling stuff. I'm US based (Arkansas), and would definitely prefer to sell somewhere like here first vs. other options. None of my FB friends are even scrappers and I don't think it's even popular around here, so that's a waste of time to try. I don't mind putting in the time to catalog/photograph/etc and research shipping prices. That gives me a starting point of what to do. Thanks for your help

You need 50 posts here to access the buy & sell board.
Have you looked for craft fairs in your area? You may be able to sell there.
Some Local Scrapbook stores host scrappy garage sales. Or some are willing to take on small bundles of supplies/tools on consignment. If there are any stores in your area it is worth checking out.
You may be able to reach local crafters through local fb buy n sell groups.

if you are not used to the online selling experience, you may want to start with a local-pick up type of listing on facebook marketplace. test the waters by grouping some items together and selling it as a lot. FB marketplace's selling template is very user friendly. when you are more comfortable with photos, listing descriptions, and want to add shipping and reach a larger audience, you can move on to Ebay, Mercari, etc.
if you have the patience to list individual items, then you can easily do that too. USPS flat rate shipping takes the guess work out calculating shipping depending on weight and destination. they have many sizes of flat rate bags and boxes and USPS will ship you the supplies for free.
i think selling sites are very user friendly these days to encourage people to use their platform. good luck!

There's usually a local buyer for almost anything that isn't esoteric, and I'd not put craft supplies in the esoteric category. That said, on average better prices are had by selling online. That's mitigated somewhat by the higher investment of time and effort to do electronic listings. If you have a local scrapbook garage sale/craft fair, that's a good option for most supplies. Again though, people are likely to expect bargains.
The middle-of-the-road option is to pick out the most valuable/sought after things and sell those online for the best price, and 'get rid' of the rest via local sales.

Thanks for the clarification in post count needed Unfortunately, there are no LSS here...we have a Hobby Lobby, and that's it. Pretty rural area if you are not used to the online selling experience, you may want to start with a local-pick up type of listing on facebook marketplace. test the waters by grouping some items together and selling it as a lot. I may try FB Marketplace out; thanks for the suggestion. I've never sold anything online at all, so it would have to be pretty user friendly for me Also thanks for the tip on the flat rate shipping--sounds like that is the way to go. If you have a local scrapbook garage sale/craft fair, that's a good option for most supplies. Unfortunately, no craft fairs around here, or at least scrapbook based. The only crafty stuff I've seen around here is more home decor/Pinterest-y stuff. Should you decide not to sell your unwanted supplies, please consider a donation(s) to the following Wonderful idea, and I very well may go that route! Thanks

Split Coast Stampers has a Buy/Sell/Trade section in the forum, about halfway down the page. I don’t know how active it is. www.splitcoaststampers.com/forums/ I’ve donated large amounts to a non-profit thrift shop that donates proceeds to a rescue group that helps animals after natural disasters and in hoarding situations, plus another group. Everything is scooped up quickly. (If anyone is near the northern VA/MD area, it’s life4animals.org in Rockville.) Random piles of supplies make a lot of work for them, so I sort supplies, put them in plastic bags, sometimes with an attached note, so they can simply price them and put them out, not spend hours dealing with everything. (I called many schools in our area and none accepted art or craft supplies, paper, etc. At least in one school, they got tired of dealing with supplies randomly dumped into boxes, sometimes dirty, torn, etc. If I had personally known some teachers it may have gone differently.) Good luck!

Once you start commenting on a few posts, you'll get to 50 in no time! If you are on Facebook, there are a million buy/sell groups for scrapbooking, planners, specific companies (Stampin Up, Creative Memories), or specific geographic areas. Be sure to read the rules for each group because they are all different (photos in an album, photos in the comments, invoice within X hours, etc.). If you go the FB buy/sell group route, I suggest posting in just one group so as not to get overwhelmed.
Get a cheap kitchen scale so you know what to charge for postage (sign up for Pirateship to get commercial pricing). Flat rate padded envelopes and boxes (free from the post office, better to order online) make shipping easier, but people often balk at the price.
Good luck! I'm still trying to get organized enough to sell. I have sold a few things, but eventually just donated a few shopping bags of stuff (which didn't make a dent in my stash). I need to try again.

I'd say be really honest if it is worth your time and how much money you think people will pay. I have found it is much more satisfying to just get stuff out of the house than try to sell it.
I belong to my local FB Buy Nothing Group and will post there if I think someone will find what I have useful. But even that takes time and energy. But I like giving back and knowing that my items are being used by someone. Otherwise I just take things down to Salvation Army. For craft specific stuff I know someone who is a struggling single mom and I always offer her my scrappy stuff. She happily takes it. Not sure how much she uses and how much she may sell but I'm just glad she can use it in some way.

I try to purge my supplies at least every 2 years - I sell it on Kijiji. I just sell everything I'm getting rid of as one big box. I take photos of everything spread out on a table, with a lot of close-up shots - I make it as attractive as I can - and then list it for anywhere from $50- $100 depending on how big the box is (and they're always pretty big). I personally have found that if I list things too cheaply then people don't take it seriously. I'm also not interested in picking and choosing so anyone who is interested has to buy the lot.
This is in Canada - where I live Kijiji is the most popular platform for selling on, so you may have a different one where you live.

I got tired of trying to go through it all and price it...so I just started boxing it up The only person locally that expressed any interest was one of my bosses, so I told him to make me an offer. I told him I'd be losing money regardless So he made me an offer and now my stuff has a happy new home...they have lots of kids/grands/great grands, so it will be put to good use. Thanks to everyone who offered tips and suggestions!! <3

I agree. I tried to sell quite a bit of my stuff a few years ago. No one wanted stamps. I was able to sell my sizzix machine for like $10.00? I'd try to sell everything in lots; paper, stamps, dies... Or if you have a lot of a theme; Halloween, Christmas....
And if you want it out quick, everything in one giant lot. Maybe it's just my area, but crafty made items sell better than items being sold in order to make that craft.
