My craft room now has IKEA cabinets, shelves etc..
For my birthday we are renovating my room and getting custom cabinets made. I've been thinking of what I want, etc but would love idea's on what you'd want, have, love and hate.
My biggest thing is 12x12 paper. Right now I keep it in vinyl record sleeves which I love, but those "bend" somewhat when storage in baskets or bins.
Here is what I do have (that I plan to keep): Drawers with individual squares for small inks Spinning holder for Distress Inks (hubby made) Custom drawer that holds my distress daubers (I have one for each color) Custom drawer inserts that hold buttons, sequins, embellies by each type/color Marker Storage for copics, each marker has it's own "slot" Bins with 6x6 paper - pads and scraps Drawers to fit my punches/border punches Cabinet with pull out for my electric sizzix and drawers for dies. Cabinet doors have magnets for thin dies Cabinets and countertop for Silhouette - mats, tools, etc all at a "cutting" station
Roughly I have a 12x24 room space to work with and plan to have 2 1/2 walls of cabinets/countertops with 2 peninsula's
Otherwise I gotta plan out where everything goes!

I would LOVE to have a 12x24 space! Sounds like you have a great plan for it.
For your 12x12 paper, a couple of ideas: Can you put some deep drawers into your counters, each sized to hold 12x12 pp on edge, enough room for packaging and branding strips, then divide each into sections so that the papers can have support? (I have two banks of these) Can you include a pantry sized closed cupboard with see-through door that has wire racks like LSS display racks so your papers can lie flat, be protected from dust, AND be seen? (I don't have this, but I didn't think of it when I had the kitchen cabinet people design my built in shelving)

My main wish would be cutting station space.. for silhouette and big shot and big guillotine cutter...
Currently i have to shuffle them all around... blahhh no bueno...
Then id love a better way to store dies... i have them in shoe boxes but have a cut in a binder to see what i have.. but if what i want is in a bottom box its a struggle... its also how i store punches..

What a great birthday gift! Sounds like you have a great sized space as well!
It's on your list but I'd for sure want a dedicated "cutting station" with my Cameo and Brother Scan & Cut out and ready to go. I currently have them in my room but have to get them out and moved to a table with space, plug them in, get my computer set up, etc etc and it's kind of a pain!
I'd also want a sink if it was possible (not sure if you have an adjacent bathroom) for rinsing stencils, paintbrushes, etc.
I keep my 12x12 papers in the old Cropper Hopper paper holders that fit in the Kallax. I think Hobby Lobby or Totally Tiffany sell a similar product. I like that they are nice and sturdy so my paper doesn't flop over or bend.
Be sure to post pics when you get it completed!!

But it didn't work for me because it got dusty and I like to have my papers sorted by color for cardstock and then categories for prints (birthday, school, etc) so I had 48 wire racks and still it wasn't enough without me having to "mix" things.
I'd LOVE to see your deep drawers!

Yes I love my cutting area for my silhouette (and scan n cut which I need to use more). I do have a utility sink, it's wonderful for cleaning things after painting
Thank you for the idea, I'll have to look into them and see how many I'd need (paper hoarder here!)

Really good lighting, additional task lighting area(s), all on dimmer switches. Window blinds or sheers that allow you to filter natural light as needed. A designated place for a purge box. Enough shelf space for completed albums. A comfy chair & ottoman for reading, relaxing, thinking, looking at completed albums. Paper storage that protects from sunlight exposure & dust. You can put a UV filter over glass. Or buy UV filter glass. A cozy spot for a beloved pet next to your primary workspace. A little table & chairs if you have small kids in your life. A door with a lock because sometimes you just need to be alone. A mini fridge & snack shelf if you need to lock the world out for hours. A computer, tv, radio, music, phone spot away from wet, goopy stuff. A mirror by the door to check for glitter, ink... on your face. A small stainless steel sink if you have access to plumbing. Enough work space for you & a friend or two. Window blinds or sheers that allow you to filter light as needed.
Enjoy your new space! Please share pictures when it’s done!

I have some rigid black paper holders, I love them and am a paper hoarder too but I find that they sometimes get caught when sliding back in. I would love some wood shelving with wooden dividers. Something like this unit, but I would absolutely have my paper all stored vertically. I don’t find horizontal storage useful at all. www.batchelorsway.com/2012/09/office-redo-i-think-im-bob-builder.html

I would want a sink, a designated sitting space for paint/messy mediums and a designated sitting space for a sewing machine (that is stored under the cabinet but raises up with the press of a button). Designated countertop space for cutting machines that has enough electrical outlets nearby to support it. I would also want an island in the middle, large enough for me and a crafty friend to spread out, that has an electrical outlet w/ USB ports. A big comfy lounge chair to read or stitch in. A big smart TV mounted to the wall. Space for 2 cat towers somewhere in the room.

I would love a full wall of punch storage. A nice large station for all of my machines wouldn't hurt either.

My ideal scrapbook room would be: A square shaped room with french doors or a barn door and a wall of windows, off the main studio area (the rest of my place would be a wide open studio home). I envision a home shaped liked a capital "E". One of the "alcove" areas would be the scrapbook room. A big walk in closet, where my rolling file carts that hold my 13 x 13 plastic envelopes with my supplies (paper, stickers, embellishments) and my rolling "work in progress" carts (three tiered rectangle carts, that hold cafeteria style trays) would reside. One wall would have a 2 x 4 cube unit, that would hold my scrapbooks. On top of it, would be my guillotine cutter and other various things. In the middle-ish of the room(closer to the wall of windows), I would have a long rectangle table, that had a custom piece of acrylic or glass on it. I prefer to scrapbook in the quiet, but I would have a small 24 inch tv, in case I want to have any breaking news on mute(and I can listen if I wanted to). A box of See's Candies filled with my favorite three chocolates.

Having never had a permanent craft space, and moving my stuff frequently (too many kids, too little house) my number one ask would be a die cut station. I'd probably use my machines more if they could stay out... That being said, an entire room... I wouldn't even know where to start

I'd put in a huge table with huge tables along each side. The more space the better. Especially if you're working on more than one project at a time. I'm working concurrently on project life, december daily and making cards. When I don't want to put every little item back in it's storage spot, I have to put everything pertaining to that project on the floor so I'll have room on my desk to work on something different.

An L shaped work space. One that has a long table for actual work with the smaller part of the L for die cutting and stamping.

Awesome birthday gift!
Sink, lots of outlets (with USB), good lighting, mini fridge, if you or friends are coffee drinkers a keurig and/or coffee bar set up, peg board or slat wall. Since you have lots of space I would set up different centers - sewing, die cutting, etc. under cabinet lighting if you will be working at those counter tops.
Besides paper are there other essentials you want to be able to see/have easily accessible? I like the punch storage on curtain rods but instead of using up wall space if I was designing a room I’d attach them to the side of a cabinet. They would only take up a few inches of space that way
How are you for heating/cooling?

I like the punch storage on curtain rods but instead of using up wall space if I was designing a room I’d attach them to the side of a cabinet. They would only take up a few inches of space that way How are you for heating/cooling? The room is already my craft room so outlets are good. My tv is moving to the middle of the main wall where I'll work. I have it on the right side now and find when I'm at the further end I can't really see/hear it as well. I have long workshop type lights every few feet all around but eventually we will have ones built in (down the road). It has it's own heating zone and cooling (it's a finished basement). There are windows (we are above ground) but that's on another wall so I don't have to work around those, the couch is there, In the small leg of the L shape of the room. My craft room is 12x24 as it's the straight, long "leg" of the L as the cabinet maker calls it. The other part of the L is the fireplace, couch, recliner. I have a utility sink already in my craft area, stained with paint as I use it all the time I definitely am going with the 12x12 paper storage suggested above. I love that and I can keep them in the vinyl record holders without dust. Woot! I would like to access, easily, my bins of 6x6 and scraps (also cut to 6x6).. of course the bank of drawers with inks, embossing powders, glitter. Otherwise I want a pretty closed look. Right now I have cabinets from IKEA but a lot of open shelves and I hate the messy look. Even though it's all organized in labeled bins I can "see" it all. I'm trying to decide on things like - my clear bins of unfinished cards and card fronts - drawer or cabinet shelf? Punches in a bank of drawers for sure. Umm... one cabinet in the peninsula will be a double sided cabinet (opens on both sides) and depth of 32 inches, what am I gonna put in there? My electric sizzix I want on a slide out shelf - I think - as I have that now and it works but another idea would be good as I haven't seen many even when looking on Pinterest. This is MUCH harder than I though it would be. LOL I was like oooh yeah this is fun, and it is but getting it down to blueprint specific is not easy! Thank you all for your input, I appreciate it!

My ideal craft room would have two large work stations, plenty of storage, a sink, a mini fridge for snacks and a shirtless Ryan Reynolds making cocktails for me. 😁
Maybe if I win the next Powerball drawing... one can dream! 😄
