Is 80 lbs or 110 lb paper better for embossing?
I noticed some lightly mist the paper with water. Is that truly necessary?
I decided to get a Sizzix snowflake embossing folder for my Hero Arts snowmen stsmp/die set. I *might* even try paste. Wwhhaaa? I know right?! Trying new things is bringing me joy right now.
It has been yyeeaarrss since I have embossed so it's like starting over lol
Any good tips and tricks appreciated!

I use 110lb (Neenah). I haven't spritzed mine with water, but I do wipe down both sides with a baby wipe. If the embossing folder makes deep impressions (like the 3D ones), it helps keep the impressions from cracking. It doesn't take a lot of moisture to help.

I ordered that paper yesterday on Amazon to use for my alcohol markers.

I would try the water spritzing or wiping and see for yourself. I definitely do it for 3D embossing to minimize cracking. Some say just a little spritz of water, some people like Yana Smakula wet the paper a lot to get really deep impressions. I think it depends on your machine, your paper, maybe your climate, whether you want to wait for the paper to dry, and how deep/bold you like your embossing.
I would test whatever paper you have too. I often use thinner cs like 80lb and even thinner. Depends what I have on hand.
