Can anyone familiar with the flawed Hexagon CiQ from C&CD tell me if it looks like that's what happening here: And, yes, I know that the placement of one of those die cuts implies I was drunk. I wasn't. But the three of the four stencils seem reasonably well-aligned and the fourth seems oddly off in different directions from panel to panel, so I'm wondering if that was the failure mode with the set from that event.

Yeah, Shakti, that's what my stencils from C&CD looked like - just slightly off like that.

I got that set at one of the C&CD events. I cannot use the square alignment guides because they are way off. After doing the first stencil, I need to adjust each stencil so it aligns correctly. Once I get all the quadrants aligned then I tape it in place.

Hmmmm...or maybe it was me? Well, probably a combination, since it was first time with this type of product.
But, my point is, I followed the package instructions and cut my paper to 8 x 10.5 and tried to align things using the etched rectangle of that size. The little square registration marks would be outside the paper if you do that.
Do people actually usually leave the card stock at 8.5 x 11 and cut it down afterward?

I personally find it easier to leave the paper full size. I’m going to have to cut it down later anyway so why get the cutter out twice? I align the top corners and use post it tape to attach each stencil to the paper in turn. I just tape it around the edge. It’s a bit clumsy, but it didn’t make sense to me to cut the paper down first. I’ve seen demos where they attached the paper to a blotter mat/work pad and then colored in the registration squares on the blotter, lining up the engraved edge to the paper and checking the colored-in squares with each change of the stencil. I might try it once just to see if it’s easier. I’m not sure if you got a wonky one or not.

I'm not either. I thought things were going reasonably well, not perfect, but close enough, until I got to the fourth layer. I think that last layer is all over the place, not even off in the same way in all the panels, and I don't think I moved it while working. I don't know if the wonky set had one layer off or weirdness all the way through.

For CIQs I also leave my paper full size. It aligns with the stencils just right.
The image you posted would drive me slightly cross-eyed with everything misaligned. Is TE not replacing any funky sets?

This being my first one, I foolishly followed the package instructions. And started it at 7 am EDT on a weekend, so none of y'all were awake for me to check in with at the time.
I, perhaps also foolishly, bought it in the TE BST group on FB, forgetting that this set had had an issue with the early release sets and therefore not thinking to ask the seller where they got it. I can't imagine someone would intentionally sell off the wonky set having received a replacement, but maybe?
I think I was pretty successful at aligning using the etched lines and I did check how it was looking as I took each stencil off. I thought I was doing OK, not perfectly aligned, but an acceptable first time. Then the fourth layer is just awful.
I can try again leaving the card stock whole and see if that helps.
