Someone can mark this political if they want since I’m on my phone.
I’m curious if anyone has any ballot questions on Tuesday. I’m not planning on delving into who likes the questions and who doesn’t, I’m just gathering some info for our Foreign Exchange student, she’s asking about how we vote etc and I’m taking her with me Tuesday so she can see how the process works especially since we have a question on our ballot which is not always the case. I’m also taking my daughter because she will be eligible to vote in the 2024 election, she has come with me in the past but it’s just been straight people votes, no questions.
CT has one about early voting. I found out we are one of very few states that doesn’t have it. I have not seen a ballot sample yet though so I don’t know the wording. I have seen yard signs that say “Vote Yes to early voting”.
And then also do you use paper or electronic? I live in a small town so voting in one place, the middle school. And we fill in the bubbles on a card and slide the card into a counting machine that looks like a photo copier.
And lastly do you have any cool stickers? We only have the I voted stickers with a small American flag on it. I’m jealous of those with fancy ones. I did collect fancy ones last time that had Women’s Suffrage leaders marking the 100th anniversary of women’s right to vote but other than that our stickers are boring. Oh and they did have future voter stickers for the kids.

Michigan- we have 3 statewide proposals and we vote paper only. We do not have Early voting, but we do have absentee voting. I believe tge voting rights ballot proposal may include provisions for early voting, but dont quote me on that- i voted absentee 3 weeks ago!

My DH was supposed to vote absentee but he was able to change his trip so he can vote in person. I’m curious how the early voting changes that? I’m guessing it just streamlines the process and he goes to the town hall if he needs to early vote in the future.

Vermont - HIGHLIGHTS per ballotpedia: we have 2 ballot questions. The Vermont State Legislature voted to refer an amendment to establish a right to personal reproductive autonomy and an amendment to prohibit slavery and indentured servitude in the state constitution. The 2022 amendments are the first ballot measures in 12 years to be referred to Vermont ballots. Between 1995 and 2021, there were two ballot measures on Vermont ballots. Both were approved.
We do have early/absenteeism voting.
We have paper ballots that we fill out and feed into the counter/machine. I have never used a voting machine and, actually, never have seen one in person.
Very rarely have I seen stickers at my polling place, even the generic “I voted”. They might of had them but I am always so intent on casting my ballot and getting out of there I don’t even pay attention.

In some you might go to the city clerk's office, others may have multiple locations. We will still vote absentee even if early voting is adopted, but it is a great thing for people who have issues getting to the polls on one specific Tuesday. Most people still have to work that day

I have voted absentee by mail for many many years. I loved the old paper ballots that you had to punch a hole in, they weren't pre-punched hanging chad ballots, but you actually had to use a hole punch. When we switched to electronic voting machines, I switched to absentee.
During the pandemic, California changed to permanent vote by mail and every registered voter gets their ballot mailed to their home. You can take it to the polls on Tuesday, you can drop it off in an official ballot box, or you can mail it via USPS. I drop mine in the official ballot box and track it thru the website to make sure it's received.
Sometimes we get an "I voted" sticker in our envelope and sometimes we don't. I think they should give one to everyone who votes, whether it's by mail or in person. Voting is a privilege and I want to show off that voted.

Maryland has early voting and mail in voting that we can also put in several drop boxes around the county.
We have questions on our ballot this time including the legalization of recreational marijuana. For our county, we also have a couple of questions.
I requested a mail in ballot, voted and then put it in a drop box at the county election center. For the first time since I've begun voting this way, they included the "I Voted" sticker in the mailing and it's cool! Very Maryland themed and Maryland residents are ridiculous about our cultural icons. I hate to put it on anything.

I'm in MD, and in the summer, I was on vacation, so I requested an absentee ballot electronically. For some reason, I thought it was just for that election, so I went to vote early and when i checked in, they said my account was flagged bc I had requested a ballot. I guess it was also for this election too, or i had checked something, so I had to fill out another form in an envelope, they gave me a ballot, I voted, sealed the ballot in the envelope, put it in the ballot box counter thing and then SIGNED that I had done all that. It took a few minutes longer, but it was fine - I guess I missed the email for the absentee voting for the Nov election...

I'm in MN. I don't recall ever having an additional question besides for a school bond/referendum. We fill in the bubbles on the paper and then put it in a machine. We do have early voting that started November 2.

well.. being in san francisco, our ballot was 5 pages.. and lots and lots and lots of questions. two on online gambling, two on closing certain roads to cars, tax questions, and it goes on and on. we have ranked choice voting on people like supervisors, etc. I am voting against our current appointed da and school board.
we get the ballot in the mail and usually drop it off at a ballot box.. which are all over the place.. but definitely at the library and city hall. there are 500 polling places in a town of 800,000 people. we have early voting and we have bilingual help in at least 3 or 4 languages. we have drive through voting drop off at city hall too..or free parking if you want to stop and vote there. if we put it in the. mail, it doesn't need a stamp and it just has to be postmarked by voting day.. and arrive before two weeks after the election.
our town makes it very easy to vote and we get high numbers.

We've been voting my mail in Oregon for at least 20 years. It's so easy!
This year I know we have a measure about gun limitations, and another one about removing language from our state constitution about slavery, or something like that.
I'm amazing about the amount of money spent on advertising this year. We are getting at least 3-4 political flyers mailed to us every day!

I can add that there are often more local additional questions like bond votes which ends up being on a separate piece of paper. I'm signed up for early/absentee voting but I had to go into the town hall for the bond ballot. I didn't mind as I had my kids with me so they got to see a bit of the process. My last polling place had stickers laying around on a table on the way out but I moved recently and can't be sure about this town. I wasn't offered one when I dropped off my ballot and voted on the bond. I've seen a voting machine in person once when I was living in PA. I wasn't actually able to vote that time because it was a primary and I'd registered as an independent. In Vermont they just hand you which ever party's primary ballot you want when you show up, or include them all in the early voting envelope and you return the one you want. I don't know if it's changed now, but PA at the time only let you vote in the primary for the party you were registered for.

We have four statewide ballot questions in Massachusetts this year. One has to do with recalling the law that was passed to allow illegal immigrants to get drivers licenses, one changing the laws on how many liquor stores a large chain grocery store can have, one about adding a millionaire's tax, and one on a law regulating how much money dental insurance companies have to spend on patient care.
We have paper ballots that we mark a bubble with a flair pen, then feed into a machine for counting.
We always get stickers, they're not especially cool looking, but I always stick it on my jacket. Then walk around for several months with it before I notice and take it off.
We have early voting and absentee ballots.
My town has one polling place (the elementary school) with three precincts. School is out on voting day because there are so many strangers in the school.

I consult The League of Women Voters site for candidates' response to determine for whom I will vote.
We have early voting and I have voted.
I always vote in person as I don't trust the post office to deliver the ballot on time.

I consult The League of Women Voters site for candidates' response to determine for whom I will vote. LWV is one of my sources, too. Here is what they say on the CN Early Voting Ballot Question. In person voting has been available at a few places in the county since Oct 29, with 200 polling stations available daily starting Nov 5 and all polling places open on election day. We've always chosen to have absentee ballots and sit down as a family to fill them out. Some choices are quick and easy and others take a bit more to decide (judges, school board, county board of supervisors, community college trustees, etc.). The various Props can often be contradictory and confusing so the LWV is my favorite source for figuring them out. Once the ballots are completed, signed and sealed I drop them all off at the library. There are tons of drop boxes around the community to chose from so I don't bother putting them in the mail. It is also easy to track the ballot as it moves through the system. ETA We get an I Voted sticker in the absentee ballot package. They do have the county name on them but are pretty generic otherwise. IMHO, it is really overwhelming how much can be on the ballot in CA and something your foreign student may not have experienced. We only had 2 full pages this time around which was half of the last election. I'm happy to be able to fill in the paper ballot at home. In Canada, the elections are all separate at each level of government. If it is a Federal election, we vote for a local Member of Parliament (MP) which would be the equivalent of only voting for a Representative in the US. If it is a Provincial election, we vote for a local Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). That's it most of the time.

These are awesome! I bought the Vote necklace for myself and my DD that Michelle Obama wore. But I think I need to pick up some of those pins too. I’m really trying to instill the importance of voting in all my kids. I still struggle getting them to the polls for local stuff but they are good about state and federal.

I’m hoping if early voting passes it will be easier for him to get to the polls.

CT already passed marijuana, I can’t remember if it was a ballot question but we did just have a town meeting about growing and a distribution center. We had the option of tabling it for a year to do research so this last netting was the follow up. We live in a pretty rural farming community but I think they opted for small micro farms, not one huge one.

We do have early voting that started November 2. Our budget referendums are always between March and May. I swear sometimes we vote 5 or 6 times in a year between voting in a town meeting by show of hands and actual paper voting in November.

I will definitely show that to the girls, thank you for the info. When our exchange student returns home she will be 18 and will be a voter. Up til now she has not really paid attention to elections but I think she came at the perfect time to learn how it’s done and how to stay informed. I told her knowledge is power when it comes to stuff like elections and who will be making decisions on her behalf.

bc2ca I will definitely share with how big CA ballots can get. I think with 2-4 pages I would much prefer to do it at home when I had time to think about each vote. Sometimes I get flustered with just names, especially when they run the same person for more than one party like Working Families and such. I am glad we have 1 question though. It won’t be overwhelming but also isn’t a standard name only election. I think I will pull up a sample ballot from 2020 to show her too. We do a lot of compare and contrast with how the 2 governments are set up. They have a lot of the same levels, just different names. It’s been fun translating the titles from her language to ours and trying to find equivalent positions. Her first US History assignment was on George Washington’s farewell address which is how we got and stayed on the subject of the birth of our nation. Her mom is coming to visit in March and they are going to DC so I’m hoping she will be able to sightsee and have some context behind the places they will go.
