I am looking into a security system for the new house. The previous owner had a subscription service that I had the option to take over but I chose not to continue. I wanted to look into other systems before making a decision as to what to use.
Google tells me that SimpliSafe is the better system. You can either use it as is and monitor things yourself or sign up for their monthly monitoring system for 93 cents per day, no contract required. I looked at their website and they seem to have all the monitoring goodies one could want from water leak sensors to indoor and outdoor cameras, window monitors, motion sensors, smoke/fire sensors, doorbell, etc. Costco sells a beginner's kit and you could add components from the SimpliSafe website.
I haven't looked into services such as ADT, etc. yet. I'm just now starting out my information gathering.
So do you have a home security system and if so, which one did you go with and why?

We have ADT. I went with them mostly because they were easy to work with and most of my neighbors use them if they have security. I have only had it for six months, but so far they have been responsive but not weird.

Can you tell me approximately what they charge per month to monitor your home?

We had ADT in TX for 14 years. It was okay. Priced it here, and it was awful. We went with CPI and have had great service with them over the last 10 years. Much, much better and cheaper than ADT. CPI is only available in the South East though.

We have SimpliSafe and I’m very happy with it. I’d recommend it.

So you already have equipment installed like an alarm communication system and sensors? We had a few sensors and a panel installed professionally moons ago. We kept the old sensors, but added some new ones and changed out the panel ourselves. But our monitoring is with Geoarm. They are very reasonable and very responsible. We have never had any problems with them, even when the system went off. The respond very quickly.

We have SimpliSafe and are 100% happy with it. We got it because it was highly rated, but I'm not sure how it compares with others. We purchased the monitoring plan with it. It's wireless; my husband set it up in an hour or so and there are contacts on every window and door. We can set it up for "home," which doesn't monitor movement but does sound an alarm if a window or door is breached, or we can set it up for away and it also monitors for movement. If you have any specific questions, I'm happy to answer them.

We had Simplisafe in our previous home. Customer service was outstanding. I would highly recommend this system.

Just had a memory. My Brother’s alarm system won’t off a few years ago. They couldn’t get ahold of him so they called us. I headed up there right away (15 minutes away) and looked in.,The dogs were quietly watching tv. He arrived soon afterwards. He figured they were jumping around and set off a sensor. Now he does it through his phone and has cameras everywhere. Ask if they have a personal alarm that you can activate from your bedroom

We have a local company that has monitored us for over 30 years. They are very good, we've accidentally set off our alarm a few times and have been very responsive. One company I completely DISLIKE is ADT. Yes, I hold a grudge but back in 1988, houses in our area were being broken into. Bad guys were setting up ours to do so (unscrewed our security light so it did not go on but you could not notice; also slit our pool door right by the lock, and a couple other things) So we called out a few companies for a quote; the ADT guy (a franchise) gave us a super scare tactic, wanted to sell us all this stuff and refused to tell us the price. Booted him out. Yes I know that was way long ago but that's not the way to do business.

Will there be security cameras in the house? I have seen on the news where other people can access the cameras and see or talk to people in the house.

My parents have ADT and have had no issues.
I use Xfinity because I have their internet/TV/Phone service. It's been great.
We both have cameras inside, but they are off when we're at home. Only used when we are gone. I use mine to keep an eye on my puppy while I'm at work.
We also both have cameras set up outside separate from our monitored security.
If you already have all the sensors and stuff in the home, I would certainly have them quote me. The most spendy part is getting all the window and door sensors you want/need.
I've also heard good thing about Simplisafe. The only thing there is I believe you have to install yourself.

We had ADT for 25 years. They were great. We paid about $40/month for monitoring. I know the police showed up quickly, as DS accidentally set it off once while our neighbor was sitting on his front steps. He noted DS leaving and the police arriving within minutes.

A few YouTubers that I watch have discount codes for SimpliSafe. I can look for one for you if you go that route. Or maybe just Google.

We have ADT. They were really basically it 17 years ago when we signed up. No issues, but we really haven’t ever “needed” them.

Another vote for SimpliSafe. I set it up myself in about an hour and it was really easy. Just follow the prompts. Plus, you can take the whole system with you if you move.

Is SimpliSafe both indoor and outdoor? I think I want something on the windows, I don't know that I'd need cameras in the house but I would like some outside.
