I am going to a nice restaurant for dinner. We went last year and it was delicious! Easy Peasy!

We have the same basics every Thanksgiving. This is not the day we get adventurous. DH, DS and I try new recipes all year long, so this is our familiar comfort meal. We make apple brandy turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, corn, double apple cranberry sauce and canned jellied cranberry sauce, apply brandy gravy, apple and pecan pies. We cook all day long and eat in about 15 minutes! 😂
The apple brandy turkey and double apple cranberry sauce are from Southern Living back when I lived in the south and had a subscription. I think it was from 2003.

I am ALL in for those of you serving deviled eggs. I love hard boiled eggs, sadly they do not love me to the point of DH banning me from ever eating them if we're going to be in the same bed that night. He has a point, the results are pretty noxious a few hours after eating them.
It's just the 4 of us. This is my least favorite holiday so every year I try to find ways to make it easier on myself. Smoked turkey from Costco, cranberries, Mac and cheese (from a local caterer who makes the BEST Mac and cheese) crescent rolls, green bean casserole, jello and DD has asked for potatoes Ana. DS wants pumpkin pie for dessert and I'll make something chocolate a few days ahead to add to it.
Oh and Stuffing! DH's favorite part of his favorite meal. Once my mom died (she made her stuffing every year) he asked if we could do his family's recipe. I make him make it and he's happy.

I'm happy to announce that I am yet, again Turkey free. I haven't ever hosted and at the last minute someone else wanted to host. Woohoo! I'll bake desserts and bring wine.

I have nooooo idea 🤷 It's just 3 of us and the only thing we've really talked about is dessert lol My mom requested cherry yum yum so that'll be in place of any pies and I do need to order our favorite asiago rolls from the bakery before they sell out. Then we always do my aunt's spinach dip recipe because it's my fav .. shit, maybe we'll do appetizers and dessert and call it a day

I'm in charge of appetizers and desserts, so I do small apps because, you know, Thanksgiving dinner...so just antipasto (yeah, okay charcuterie) and hummus. Desserts will be pies, pumpkin tiramisu, fruit salad.

I’m in charge of doing stuffing (or “dressing” as my mother calls it) - I’ll do one large traditional one plus a smaller “different” one.
And my mom is super anti-appetizer but I’m in charge of bringing an appetizer would love ideas. Maybe I’ll do a salmon dip.

I'm the opposite! I prefer to cook at my house so we can have "leftovers for days." It's the best part of Thanksgiving. Especially a turkey sandwich with Duke's mayo and some cranberry sauce. Lol. All the kids and grandchildren are coming for C'mas so Thanksgiving will be small this year. Right now just me, my husband, our 21 y/o, and my best friend. I've still got to check with my in-laws to be sure they have plans or we'll include them. Turkey, dressing, gravy, ham, mac-and-cheese, corn souffle, green beans, a jello-type salad (a tradition that we only eat this once per year!), and deviled eggs. Plus pumpkin and lemon meringue pies. I’m not opposed to leftovers in theory. I just don’t want to have to store everything and haul it out every time we want a meal. I’m happy to come to your house for turkey sandwiches, though. Lol yes. Feel the same way lol. I love leftovers but storing it and hauling it annoys me.

I think we are having Prime Rib, which is fine with me because I am not a Turkey lover. We will have pumpkin pie though, I insist. 😆

My DD was diagnosed with celiac in January, so this year I'm going to adapt our regular dishes to be gluten-free. Mac & cheese is the favorite, a gf dessert (not sure what), sweet potato casserole and green beans. My DD will make the other dishes and her DH will cook the turkey.

When I was a kid, my family always went camping during the thanksgiving break. My first real traditional thanksgiving dinner happened my freshman year in college. I had gone to school across country and spent the holidays with my grandparents. My grandmother was a great cook and hostess, and I learned whatever entertaining skills I have from her. DH and I went to one family or the other before and after we had kids and sometimes held Thanksgiving at our house. So I’ve done the massive cooking thing leading up to 15 minutes of eating and another marathon to clean up. I have always understood why my mom loved the camping alternative. Because of my childhood camping tradition, I also have no emotional attachment to the traditional holiday meal.
That being said, the kids have launched, although one is currently living with us. I hate the whole marathon cooking thing with a passion, so we order most of our dinner from Whole Foods. It’s always pretty good, there’s a huge variety of options, including vegan options (for me) and all I have to do is organize reheating times. This year I just need to make fresh cranberry relish and vegan mashed potatoes. For me, it’s a win win.

We are ordering from Bob Evans. I will also get some pies from Sams Club. We are visiting my dd in Florida and she is inviting 5 of her friends over. They get two days off from school so they won't be going home and have no plans. I am super excited because it won't be just the three of us like usual. I love having a home full of people for holidays.

PenandInk I also hate the marathon cooking followed by cleanup. I finally put my foot down a few years ago. Everyone loved thanksgiving, especially when I did all the work. I agreed to do the turkey and gravy. DS takes care of mashed potatoes and stuffing. We share rolls/veggie duty. I make my homemade apple cranberry sauce a day or two early and we order pies. DH is on cleanup (especially stripping the turkey carcass). I vetoed cooking on Christmas around the same time. I really hated making two big meals a month apart. We used to go out for Chinese at Christmas, but stopped due to COVID. Now I put a ham in the oven on Christmas Eve, no real work involved. However, now I am retired. I may do more now that I’m not trying to shoehorn cooking into my few days off from work. But, I will continue to insist on family participation. DS and I really enjoy cooking together.

Sauerkraut with Kielbasa, it’s a family tradition on Thanksgiving regardless of what else is on the menu. My DB and SIL are hosting this year and I’m more than happy to drive 2 hrs to avoid the cooking and cleaning up.

good question - it'll just be the three of us but we'll eat leftovers for days and probably freeze some turkey also. I picked up a 17-lb and if I find a better price, I'll grab a second one for the freezer - we like turkey
so roast turkey....probably roast potatoes, stuffing (StoveTop as it's DH's favourite and DD won't eat stuffing anyway), cranberry jello salad, canned cranberry, not sure on vegetables...probably mashed rutabaga, might do a squash and brussels sprouts dish, corn of some sort for DD...
desserts? DD will probably decorate sugar cookies. She usually requests Chocolate Chess pie. I'll make another pie - maybe pumpkin or apple or pecan or burgundy...
and we always have stollen and cinnamon rolls for breakfast and appetisers for lunch (we eat holidays dinner late afternoon) - raw veggies with dip, cheese, and maybe something else

I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving because I get to fix the creative parts of the meal. I'm going to my BFF's house to feast with her 3 grown kids and her grandchildren. She's making all the traditional stuff: turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, rolls and gravy.
I'm making sweet potato casserole, charcuterie board, fruit skewers on a pumpkin, and a pumpkin shaped cake. I've spent a lot of time on Pinterest lately.
I'm also preparing a few games for the adults and kiddos to play.
I'm hoping it will go well. Her kids are pretty condescending towards her but I understand why. She acts very much like Eeyore. Also, I'm concerned about the smell in her house - her son lives with her and you can smell the pot he smokes from the front yard. The house reeks but she and her son are nose blind to it.

I'm not a huge fan of this holiday. Growing up it was fun, because I had loads of aunts, uncles, and cousins. My dad got very sick during his military stint during the Korean war from a bad chicken, as a result we never ate any bird of any kind. I was nearly 18 and in the Army before I ever had chicken or turkey. I'm okay with chicken, but turkey just doesn't do it for me.
When I got married, it was just Dh and I and his parents. Coming from the huge gatherings I had growing up, this was a boring day with food I didn't care much for. When we had ds, we started travelling on Thanksgiving and never did much in the way of a Thanksgiving dinner. Fortunately, this year we are back to "normal" after covid, and we are in England. Woohoo, no cooking a meal I don't actually like, nor dealing with leftovers that I absolutely don't like.
