I was looking at the thread on choosing a word for 2023 and am debating about signing up for the OLW class. Do the Peas have any wisdom on choosing a word? Reviews of the class? How did you work the word into your documenting? Any other wisdom and information from those of you that have been doing this for a few years?

I did ask on the other thread about that. I'm curious too. My life is boring and I'm not sure I could relate to the prompts. I guess I don't know enough about the class.

I have never done the class.
I choose a word(s) each year, to have as a guide and a focus, for me and my life. I choose my word(s) based on my life at the moment, the season of life that I am in and experiencing, etc...

This is one of my two favorite projects for the year. I love both the project and the class.
The class has really expanded in the last couple of years, bringing in some different prompts and instructors.
It is still meant to be a low impact class, meaning not a huge time investment, although I imagine that you can invest as much time as you would like to lol.
There is a new prompt each month and then several instructors share how they implemented/documented the prompt.
I have a separate album for OLW. Lots of people are documenting in journals or travelers notebooks. Ali typically uses 6x8 albums and the included supplies are in that format, although if you have digital skills you can make them fit whatever size. I personally use 8.5x11 and have no problem adapting the materials for that size. The price of the class includes the class, and the digital supplies. A physical kit is available at an additional cost, if you don’t want to print your own.
As far as choosing a word, my word seems to “choose me” so to speak but I do know that Ali has good info on her blog about choosing a word.
Good luck in your making your decision!

Agree with teacherlisa the class time is really whatever time commitment you want to do. I think it also adapts really well to whatever you feel like doing to create for the project. So if you lean more on mixed media, it's easy enough to incorporate that, if you lean really simple, easy enough to just do some journaling inspired by the prompt, etc. You can really fit it to your own personal style and you can switch it up each month which is fun. The prompts can be adapted if something isn't speaking to you. With the newer format, sometimes the teachers will give different options which I've found helpful. The first two or three months the Facebook group is active and sharing projects. It slows down a lot after that which I think is a bummer but I understand why. I've historically just included mine in my PL album and called it good but next year I think I will do a separate album for the first time. Personally, I've done a terrible job with my word this year. It's the first year I am just not feeling it at all but this year has been tough for a variety of reasons and I haven't done much of the class work. Maybe if I had, I'd feel differently. All that said, I do plan to take the class again next year. It's fun to have a word and something to come back to, kind of a touch point throughout the year. You might list out some of your favorite words or if you have something that you're curious about like habit building or bringing more joy into your life, and see if your word might show up that way.

I like this--I think the idea of something low impact and not too time consuming might be good for me. I was wondering about including it in my PL album. I do my PL monthly, so I do think it would be nice to have something about the word in each month and revisit it throughout the year.

I love the class and it helps keep me focused on the project and my word. I always do an album of some sort and I find the support and guidance to be valuable. I like that each month's content is very adaptable and I often get more from the videos and discussions than I expect. I've been consistently doing an OLW album for the last 4 years and I've done the class each year. I find it to be very helpful to me and keeping me engaged with the overall project.
