Sometimes it's very obvious why local stores close, isn't it? It seemed like a lot of stores were opened by scrapbookers who thought this would be fun…”pay wholesale” sell enough to support my craft and a fun place to hang out with my scrappy buddies. There was one store that publicized crops but was always booked. One of my friends asked if it was booked forever and the owner just shrugged. I got the impression that our now-closed store had some kind of secret club for crops. Always full and not really discussed with outsiders.

An employee at my LSS didn't know what a Cricut was! And another employee, after seeing a layered cardstock 3D design I cut with Silhouette, said Oh you cheated. I sure wish I had not bit my tongue over that remark.

I sure wish I had not bit my tongue over that remark. At first I liked your comment, but then decided no, I needed to reply. That just makes me mad! What a witch. Cutting layered 3D designs is hard! It is challenging to get them in the right order, and you have to do it just right to make it look good. I remember trying to help a friend with the Cricut Disney princesses because they have 100 layers and if you don't do them right the eyes look REALLY bad and the princess looks wonky. I am sorry someone was so rude to you.

“Cheated” oh my… Why do some people assign their own “rules” to things. It’s probably cheating to use pre made PL life cards, too. Or patterned paper- I mean buy some paint and make your own. Rolls my eyes. Or scissors. Gnaw out shapes with your teeth. Ugh.

I am sorry someone was so rude to you. Thanks, but what are you supposed to do when that is the only LSS around and you really need background paper for your design.

Back when I did digital scrapbooking, you wouldn't believe the things I heard at crops: "That's not real scrapbooking!" "You're cheating." "There's no creativity involved."
One time I didn't bite my tongue and told a woman "my memories are being preserved, same as yours."

Yup! I went to the lss to get something. Can’t remember now what it was. Asked the store owner and she said, “I didn’t bring it in because it’s not what my customers like.” Who did she think she was talking to? I’m one of your customers lady! I know I didn’t shop there all the time as the store was an hour away but when I did I bought big. A fair bit of time went by before I went back. My husband came in with me. Seriously, the store was floor to ceiling floral everything. I like floral. But I also like variety. I said something to my husband about all the floral. We left without me buying anything. Next time I went back in the store had a wide variety of everything. Do you think she heard me? I see both sides here. I have a local store that tried to bring in Vicki Boutin because some of us wanted it. She is STILL trying to get rid of some Colour Study paper, because there weren't enough of us. Her core clientele is older & leans toward cardmaking, so a lot of the 12x12 paper I want isn't going to sell for her in big enough quantities to warrant stocking it.

I miss scrapbook stores. At one point we had 8 in Central Ohio. Now we have zero. I loved going to them.
Actually, I would have been surprised if they had Prima. I always think of it as kind of niche. It is very girly/floral/vintage/precious and it is fairly hard to scrap with. It seems more useful to card making and paper crafts, not traditional scrapping. That being said, I did buy the Christmas line you mentioned, and the Halloween line. The papers were so pretty! I think it is going to be very challenging to scrap with, and most of it will probably sit in a pile and just be admired but it really is gorgeous.
Stores have to buy what the majority of their clientele wants and I think most scrappers left are the "old school" variety. A lot of very basic, very theme based scrapping. I used to wonder why a lot of scrapbook stores didn't have the stuff I wanted but then I realized I was very influenced by (then) magazines and (now) the internet and most of the people I met at the stores hadn't heard of the magazines, sites, and designers I followed. A lot hadn't heard of my favorite companies and couldn't tell one manufacturer from another. I was just more obsessed by everything about the business and I thought of it just as much as art as documenting memories.
I don't think 2peas scrappers are typical scrappers. We are a little more scrap obsessed.
I buy everything online now. I mainly buy from Scrapbook.com, and A Cherry on Top. Both have a wide selections and good customer service. I have also bought from other companies here and there.

My two LSS are the opposite. They buy the on trend lines and between the two of them, most manufacturers are covered.
The best thing is that both stores are willing to order items that they don’t carry [\b]. This makes shopping a dream. I just wish they were a bit closer to my house.

Back when we had a local shop, the owner would special order items for me. Cost was about the same as ordering myself online, but was a way to support the shop. Perhaps this owner would consider doing that. Same here. My lss has been closed for several years now and I miss her ordering items for me. Especially Bazzill cardstock. But she made me a great deal on her stock when she closed so I am set for at least the next decade. 🙂

Seeing the title of this thread "have you ever been annoyed by..." all I can say today is yes, no matter what you're talking about, I have probably been annoyed by it! lol.
