TW: mention of sex crimes, but I won't go into any specific details.
A 68yo plastic surgeon that has patients where I work has been arrested for sex crimes involving teenage girls 13-15yo. They raided his house at 5.30 in the morning and arrested him. One of those child abuse task forces has been investigating him over the last month. He's been grooming the victims on Snapchat then putting them in apartments and hotels and paying them for sex. The reports said they have Snapchat messages, credit card & hotel receipts, CCTV footage etc. So it sounds like they have plenty of evidence, he was refused bail and is in remand waiting for a court date. The magistrate at the hearing said he was very likely to get a "lengthy jail sentence"
He did mainly nose jobs, facelifts and breast implants. He had 4 patients booked in for surgery tomorrow, I feel sorry for them getting that call, I assume they've paid him for the surgery too. Now they'll probably have trouble getting that back.
He's an arrogant shit and none of us liked him, but we wouldn't have predicted this, he was very highly strung/anxious and would have a complete meltdown if everything didn't go according to plan so admittedly I'm a bit surprised he would do something criminal because I would have said he couldn't cope with the stress. But you just never know what sort of secret lives people have.
I just feel sick every time I think about it and every time I think about any interaction I had with him, knowing what we know now.

Yes - it keeps circling in my brain but there's not much else to say about it. Thankfully he's been caught and stopped...if there's 4 victims now, no doubt there have been more.

That’s just awful. I’m so sorry for his victims and those who had a professional relationship with him and are now hurt and confused.

That’s a shame.
A doctor who operated on my bladder several years ago was arrested the week following my surgery for taking upshot photos of women on the subway. I showed up at the hospital for my follow up and every trace of him was erased.

Sadly, that’s my expectation too. I saw a news story that appears to fit the circumstances and names a man, which might trigger other victims to come forward, but I was surprised to see that because I would have expected automatic name suppression given the alleged offending involves underage children.

I'm sorry - my girls' pediatric ARNP was arrested several years ago and is now in prison for crimes with underage boys - just makes me sick

I think automatic name suppression is only to protect the children, not the accused. As the children involved aren't related to him, they can still name him without it identifying them. For the victim's sake I hope they can come forward and get help, but it sounds like they have enough evidence for 17 charges without 'needing' any more.

I hope they call immediately and the billing person will wire them a refund. That may not be how it works. I don't really know much about his specific practice, but he works in the private sector, and so he essentially works for himself. He would see patients and advise them of the cost, and they pay him - possibly directly into his own bank account before they have surgery. There may not be anyone who can issue a refund out of his personal bank account apart from him.

So sad. Wicked minds. Where I worked, they had a doctor on staff and he too was recently arrested for soliciting teen girls. Makes one want to puke. Praying the girls affected can work though this and have a happy life.

yuck. Those poor girls.
A doctor that worked in the clinic my family doctor was was convicted for sexually abusing his daughter. He sent out really bad vibes.

Horrible all round. It's weird when these things happen so close to home, isn't it? A few years ago the chap who cut the trees in our garden murdered his wife. I found myself analysing every visit in my head. It messes with your mind.

Those poor girls. I'm sorry you worked with him as I'm sure you and your coworkers feel unsettled by this news. I hope he is locked up for a very long time.

The orthodontist that we dealt with for DD’s braces was arrested for grooming and I’m not sure what else - it was many years ago.
I’s am just thankful I attended every appointment with her and went into the treatment room as well.
these type of people make me sick.

The fertility doctor when I was TTC with DS lost his medical license for molesting women both in the exam room and under anesthesia. I choose to believe it didn’t happen to me. He moved to Thailand to avoid lawsuits. Creep.

I'm sorry. It's very unsettling when someone you know (even in passing) is arrested for a horrific crime. It's chilling to think how many pedophiles are out in society molesting innocent children.

It's awful that there are others who have had to deal with this as well. Even though we did nothing wrong it still feels bad to know we interacted with and were nice to men while they were doing those horrible things.
Even though this surgeon was arrested and charged and helfd in remand, I was still confused why there was no trial date set...so I had to look up how this all works. Apparently now his case gets reviewed by the public prosecutors and they decide if there's enough evidence etc and whether or not to proceed with a trial (I had falsely assumed once you were formally charged a trial was automatic). If for some reason they decide not to proceed to trial, then he'd be a free man with no convictions and able to resume his career.
That's what we're worried about - if that happens and we are expected to interact with him again. I guess we'll have to decide what to do if that happens, but I'm already thinking I'll be very active and vocal and take a lead role if I need to, to petition our hospital board so they don't let him operate there again.

I don’t know how that works in Australia. A Dr in Boston was arrested last week for sex trafficking and has been fired from the hospital where he works, and lost his other hospital privileges. I assume the medical board will review whether he can keep his license. he hadn’t been convicted of anything yet.

I am so sorry for all the victims. Sadly, I assume there are more as a 68yo man likely has been doing this a long time unless he has some sort of brain tumor or something that completely changed him.
How awful for the upcoming patients, too.

But that is my point - you (general you, not you specifically) can't make that assumption. I hope it's clear that I'm not trying to defend him because I'm definitely not (I think he's a disgusting POS), I'm just looking at it from a logical/legal standpoint. We have a system of "innocent until proven guilty" and if there's no conviction and if the charges were not in relation to his surgical skills then I don't see what grounds they would have to cancel his license.

Sickening. And yes, most likely there are more victims.
It sounds like they have a good deal of evidence. It’s also striking that he would be so stupid - hotels with receipts and security cameras?
I’m glad they caught him.
