I have a 15lb turkey. We are having our dinner this Sunday. I'm trying to decide if I want to start defrosting Tuesday or Wednesday. I feel like it's never defrosted quite enough. But I want it to be safe too.

I have about a 15 pound turkey and all of the guides say to take it out on Sunday to cook it on Thursday. So four days to thaw.

I'm no help as I always buy a fresh one. I'll get one between 12-14 lbs. for the 3 of us.

I have two in the freezer - a 17lb and a 10lb...not sure yet which I'm cooking and it might be neither as I'm probably picking up another one, maybe two on Wednesday and might just pop one of those into the fridge to start defrosting.

I'm no help but we have a HUGE turkey this year (not me cooking) it is a 26 pounder.. there will be about 18 of us there, maybe a few more...
Other than when I was a kid going to my grandma's, this will be the biggest group ever. My grandma's Thanksgiving, I am guessing there were about 30+ of the grandkids, aunts/uncles, etc.

The general rule for defrosting is 1 day for every 5 pounds. So start defrosting on Wednesday. On Saturday, take out the inners. The cavity may still be icy but should thaw out completely by Sunday.

I think mine is around 15 lbs and we buy a similar size every year. I always put it in the fridge on Sunday morning, so four days before I have to cook it. It's always defrosted. If I only give it 2-3 days it's a little frozen in the center, especially the neck/giblets.

22 lbs, and I'll start defrosting Sunday. I always buy about the same size and start defrosting Sunday--it's never been a problem.

I have a 15 pound fresh turkey that I bought yesterday. However, even though it said it was fresh, it was frozen. Our first Thanksgiving celebration is on Sunday so I just put it into the refrigerator.

Now I just pick up in time to start brining the night before. My son's Boy Scout troop defrosts them in coolers (they put water in them, and I am not sure if they take them out of the cooler or not - I usually do at night and put in the fridge, but they must not?)
