At least five people were killed and 18 others injured in a mass shooting at an LGBTQ nightclub on Saturday in Colorado Springs, Colorado, according to police.
Authorities received numerous 911 calls starting at 11:57 p.m. and responded to the scene at Club Q, said Colorado Springs Police Lt. Pamela Castro.
"They did locate one individual who we believe to be the suspect inside," said Castro. "At this point in time, the suspect is being treated, but is in custody."
The location of the shooting is reminiscent of the 2016 attack at an LGBTQ nightclub in Orlando, Florida, in which a gunman who pledged allegiance to the Islamic State killed 49 people and wounded at least 53.
Colorado has been the site of some of the most heinous mass shootings in US history, including the 1999 shooting in Columbine High School and the 2012 movie theater shooting in Aurora.

So freaking sad. This is 1.5 miles from my home, so hits real close to home. I know one can't live in fear, but makes you want to stay in your home and go no where.

Yesterday I was in the “LGBQ… zone of town with my dad and guys and guys and gals and gals were holding hands and being affectionate and perfectly safe. In Mexico. I cannot believe this happened again.

OMG My son hangs out there sometimes. When I visited him a month or so ago, he took me to a drag show at a bar in Denver, and it was honestly the most fun I've had in a long, long time. The hatred that some have in their black, ugly hearts, for people who aren't harming them in any way, disgusts me.

Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance. It is. And my city about an hour north east of you had a guy come Tuesday to the city council meeting and attack LGBTQ+ persons because 2 of the council members along with others had a proclomation for Transgender Remembrance Week and Day. And those 2 city council members came at him with facts. So now Gays Against Groomers, who showed up to the school board meeting I was at, will be there in December. To further fuel the hate again people. So now we have a big group of supporters coming to back the city council and the 2 members so they dont fight alone. Its gross and sick and makes me so freaking mad and sad and everything in between.

Absolutely sickening and infuriating.
Words matter. When we dehumanize and stigmatize others, this is what happens.

I know one can't live in fear, but makes you want to stay in your home and go no where. Not to pick on you, but I have the opposite reaction. It makes me want to march in the streets and continue to fight hard to changes in gun laws at every level from city/county to federal.

Too much hate in our world - and too many people who think the way to deal with things is with a gun.

The hate in this world seems to outweigh the kindness and love. People are angry and hateful and jealous of others just trying to live their lives. It's so damn depressing.

Perhaps we should consider teaching some of that tolerance at the college level, too. I’ve been told many times on this board that conservative views are not welcome on college campuses, but it would seem that bigotry is alive, well, and very much allowed at Texas A&M.

Read this statement before you read the spoiler.. CBS 8 San Diego’s Steve Price reports that Voepel “once drew harsh criticism from several of his colleagues in Sacramento for comparing the January 6 attack on the Capitol to the American Revolutionary War.” A far-right Republican, the 72-year-old Voepel has been an avid supporter of the Tea Party. After a mob of Donald Trump supporters violently attacked the U.S. Capitol Building on January 6, 2021, Voepel declared, “This is Lexington and Concord. First shots fired against tyranny. Tyranny will follow in the aftermath of the Biden swear-in on January 20.” The man arrested in connection with the attack, 22-year-old Anderson Lee Aldrich, is facing five counts of first-degree murder and five counts of a "bias-motivated crime causing bodily injury,” according to court filings. And CBS 8 San Diego is reporting that Aldrich is the grandson of California State Assemblyman Randy Voepel. www.rawstory.com/accused-colorado-springs-shooter-is-the-grandson-of-a-gop-ca-state-assemblyman-who-compared-jan-6-to-the-american-revolution/#cxrecs_s

Ironically one of their leaders gave a talk about "musket fire" against the LGBTQ community and their supporters. So much hatred.

More thoughts and prayers.. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints confirmed on Monday that the Club Q shooting suspect was a member of their church. *** Colorado Springs is a conservative community that is home to groups such as Focus on the Family and the Family Research Council, which have been labeled hate groups by the Southern Poverty Law Center. *** The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which has long opposed LGBTQ rights, released a statement saying that they don't condone the violence in Colorado over the weekend. The senseless act of violence in Colorado Springs is of great sadness and concern to us. We are greatly troubled by any violence in our communities and condemn most especially violent acts that are the result of intolerance against any of God's children," Doug Andersen, Director, Media Relations of the church, said in a statement, according to USA Today's Nick Penzenstadler. Of course they don't "condone" the violence. That would be silly. What they fail to do is recognize their involvement through their rhetoric. They are just like Trump. More thoughts and prayers.. A MAGA candidate who gave this quote to the San Diego Union Tribune after Jan 6: Yeah, funny how they seem to see themselves as the victims. “Free speech!” “My guns!” “Covid vaccines bad!” What scares me is that there is a segment of Magaland that is determined to bend the nation to their will.
