I have the opposite reaction. It makes me want to march in the streets and continue to fight hard for changes in gun laws at every level from city/county to federal. I'm sad. I'm angry. I'll be marching in the streets with you. Two of my daughters have gay "boyfriends" and other close friends who are very dear to me. One was at the Pulse nightclub just before the shooting and he's traumatized again by this. Would it be so bad if these people just lived their lives as gay people and found people to love just like the rest of us can? And can we at least make it hard for a lunatic to get an AR-15?

I can't even imagine how much worse this would have been without the heroism of Richard Fierro, Thomas James and the unnamed drag queen who took down the shooter. So much damage so quickly - fucking AR-15. CO has a red flag law - but a bomb threat apparently wasn't enough to realize that he shouldn't have access to weapons - let alone weapons that can kill so quickly.
ETA the initial news reports identified the other hero as a drag queen, further reports indicate a trans woman. I mean no disrespect in my post and will modify if the individual comes forward with whatever identity they choose.

I'll never understand Uvalde - arresting parents trying to get to their children instead of doing your job - I honestly don't know how any of them can live with themselves. We can't expect a combat veteran to be on hand to run toward a shooter - as a society our children deserve better.

Here's an interesting twist.. Anderson Lee Aldrich, 22, was turned over to sheriff’s officers at the jail by Colorado Springs police. Aldrich had been detained at the hospital, according to police, and is facing 10 arrest-only charges — five counts of first-degree murder and five counts of bias-motivated crimes causing bodily injury," The Gazette reported." "Aldrich's lawyer is listed in court records as Joseph M. Archambault, who is the chief trial deputy for the Office of the Colorado State Public Defender. Records show that Archambault filed six motions to the court on behalf of Aldrich on Tuesday." A copy of one of the filings was obtained by The Denver Post.
"Anderson Aldrich is nonbinary. They use they/them pronouns, and for the purposes of all formal filings, will be address as Mx. Aldrich," the footnote says. The newspaper noted Aldrich is scheduled for a virtual court appearance on Wednesday. www.rawstory.com/club-q-2658769626/

The shooter’s dad seems like someone who shouldn’t be able to own guns, either. Apple never falls far.

The shooter’s dad seems like someone who shouldn’t be able to own guns, either. Apple never falls far. Saw this on our local news last night and my jaw dropped. "We don't do gay" but killing is okay, coming from the mouth of the meth addict porn star Mormon who identifies as a conservative Republican. They also did a story on the hero, Richie Fierro, who was born and raised in San Diego, interviewing his parents, too. What a contrast. Although I also could see the id as trolling.

The grandpa now the dad. The POS doesn't fall far from the POS tree (s).
And is it bad that I didn't mind seeing his mugshot, all black and blue and beat up. Hope it hurts. A lot.

On a side note: (or 2)
My eldest helped hist an event for the LGBTQIA+ teen community over the weekend. A white CIS appearing, hoodie wearing dude came in with his hood up and hands in front pocket. Gave them pause and although it ended up being nothing/innocent, (a friend or family) how pathetic is that? They can't even get together without fear. Not to mention it's not far to the white CIS appearing good guys. Sucks all around.
Alsi the same above mentioned child of mine texted me the morning after the shooting. Whenever they're excited or anxious it's "mom (send)... mom, (send) mom!" (send)
That's what I saw repeatedlyrepeatedly on after not having phone by side.
Then "what town does (cousin) live in now???" (She recently moved with GF)
I knew instantly just what their concern was and in my panic to console simply texted "not Colorado Springs" as I couldn't come up with correct Colorado town. "Good" instant reply Again, it sucks. So angry

So it seems that the county leadership for El Paso County, where Colorado Springs is located, had declined to enforce the state’s red flag laws, which would likely have saved lives in this case.
I hope the victims’ families are able to sue the county.
