i have a SELPHY and while i love it — i really want to compare photo quality to the PICTUREMATE.
Also, is there a huge difference in replacement cartridges?
Thanks in advance.

I would definitely recommend the PictureMate. I like that the prints are true 4x6, can print up to 5x7, prints are water-resistant, printing wirelessly has always been reliable and easy, and in my opinion, the print quality is superior. This is comparing my DD’s selphy model and my picturemate that are both about 4-5 years old now.
As far as cost, I recall getting a decent price when I bought a value pack of selphy cartridges (maybe 3-4 in a pack). I have never found anything like that for the picturemate. The picturemate 320 pack that prints 100 4x6 prints has always stayed pretty consistent at just under $0.40/print. For me that’s fine for the print at home convenience and quality. I also think I’ve done better than 100 prints from a cartridge, since I’ve had to buy extra photo paper for it here and there.

Handsdown, get the Picturemate. The photo quality is amazing, it's a true 4x6, 5x7 size, can print on different media types (vellum, card stock). I usually stock up on photo paper when epson has it 1/2 off (like now) and get my ink from Amazon.

Another vote the Picturemate. I love mine and all the picture size options. Mine is older but it still works great! I'm in Canada so not sure about price comparison. I have to order the refills through Epson now as no stores carry them but it hasn't been too bad. I think it averages about .49 cents a photo. I know that sounds high but since I project life, being able to print what I want, when I want and the size I want is worth every penny.

I bought the Epson PM about 4 years ago. At the time, it was superior quality to the Canon. Not sure if that is still the case, but I still love my Epson!

I have a Selphy and I am hoping Santa will bring me a Picturemate. I've heard Picturemate has much better photo quality.

Picturemate. Epson is superior quality. Canon is fine but Epson is so much better.

A few years ago I ordered the Selphy and was not very happy with the picture quality. I ordered the PM-400 to compare and was immediately impressed. Since I had not returned the Selphy yet, I did side-by-side comparisons of several different pictures, and the difference was remarkable.
Not only is the picture quality better...both color and sharpness, but the PM-400 prints true 4x6 as well as 5x7 photos, and you can use any brand of photo paper. I even use the back of 4x6 journaling cards when I want to print my own. I've since purchased several as gifts and everyone loves their PM-400.
