![](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/thumbnailer/MqsUeXNCcTKVKFpUL0Bu.png) My DH signed us up for a neighborhood progressive dinner. Yay, me! Anyway, we did this years ago, and one of the ladies had a small gift for the women. I guess I should have something, just in case. I have made ornaments from acrylic blanks and was thinking maybe that. This ornament is just an example, not one of mine. What say the peas?

I love progressive dinners! And I think that ornament is super cute. Go for it!

I say that if DH signed you up, DH needs to handle it. Cooking, buying, whatever your item is. I wouldn't be happy with anybody signing me up for anything without my say so. AND it needs gifts?!? Hoo, bud. That said, your idea for an ornament is nice, and I'm sure you're a much nicer wife than I am. ![](http://i1168.photobucket.com/albums/r481/2peasrefugees/Smilies/tongue.jpg.gif)

I'm sure you're a much nicer wife than I am. Oh, I am not happy about it, and yes he can do the cleaning for it. And I can't leave him to do the cooking or it would just be prepackaged crap. And I don't want to not have a small gift if everyone else does.

I would do little mini stockings, mini boxes or mini tins from the dollar store, filled with and assortment of mini chocolates >> Hershey mini's, kisses, rolo's, reese cup, twix, etc... If you don't gift them, you can fill your candy dish.

I think the ornament idea is nice, it’s something people can hang on their tree if they like it or regift it if they don’t.
Our former neighborhood used to host progressive dinners but we never did participate. Usually they were hosted on weekends when we weren’t going to be home. I’d only like it if it was a group of people I really knew well. I’d be uncomfortable in a group of random neighbors.

I like the ornament idea, but I wouldn't just say it is for the women, but a unisex type gift. The tin of candies mentioned above is what I would like as I'm a chocolaholic. I've only done one progressive and that was like 50 years ago. They can be fun.

You go to one house for appetizers, one house for a main course, another for dessert, etc. Or just finger food at each house.

![](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/Ivm7lm0DayrhoRpwvCeH.jpg) Tell us how you really feel. I could imagine these more easily among neighbors, where it was simple to walk next door or across the street. Our neighborhood doesn't mingle much with one another (unfortunately--I think everyone is safer & happier in that kind of neighborhood).

We’ve had them a few times in our neighborhood and it was fun. We’re a group who are all friendly. It was nice catching up and sharing food together.

We’ve had them a few times in our neighborhood and it was fun. We’re a group who are all friendly. It was nice catching up and sharing food together. Maybe it depends on the neighborhood and neighbors. My childhood neighborhood? Mom would've loved it. Dad's current neighborhood? I could see some of them doing it but no sidewalks and houses spaced further apart may prevent it. In this house and the last one, no go. In ten years at the last one, we only knew one well enough to actually chat with them. Everyone else had no desire to socialize. Here? Not happening. After the "must be nice to have money" comments from two neighbors, I'm not interested in being friends.

Our neighborhood doesn't mingle much with one another (unfortunately--I think everyone is safer & happier in that kind of neighborhood). I could see this happening in the community where I live. The unofficial homeowner’s association (it’s totally an opt in thing for community social events, swimming lessons in the summer and Santa visits in December, an Easter egg hunt every spring, a big BBQ picnic for the 4th of July, water ski show, etc.) already organizes monthly adults only potlucks where different couples volunteer to host at their homes. I’ve noticed it’s usually the same people who host a certain month every year, and it tends to be the older couples that have lived in our community for decades who host and attend. None of my immediate neighbors (in a wide range of ages) have ever gone. DH and I have never gone.

WTF is a progressive dinner? I feel like this was much more popular in the 70s and 80s, and with church groups. I think my parents attended a couple when I was a kid.
