Anyone use a good cleaner for the inside of your dishwasher. Not regular dishwasher detergent for the dishwasher but a cleaner that you use without the dishes in it to clean the dishwasher. Thanks.

A puzzling question to me. The walls and door of my dishwasher are cleaned when the dishes are cleaned. I see no reason to run an empty cycle. Mine is stainless steel.
I just looked inside to see if there were things I had not noticed and all is clean and shiny.

I don’t use a specific cleaning product for the inside of my dishwasher. I clean the filter weekly and occasionally fill a cup with bleach and put it in the top rack of an otherwise empty dishwasher and run a normal cycle.

Appliance repair guy recommended Lemishine. You can find it with the Jet Dry type products.
I've also heard that Tang (yes, the powdered orange drink mix) works, too.

I use Finish Dishwasher Cleaner maybe every few months. Lemon scented and over here you find it by the dishwasher salt and rinse aid.

I use affresh- the one for dishwashers. I’ve found it also really helps to leave mine open overnight after I run it. ( I also use affresh for washing machines, and leave that open overnight, too.)

I was going to recommend the Finish dishwasher cleaner as well
For those asking why, I don't think it's the sides that it focuses on but more the drains & pipes & such, as well as help get rid of smells that food waste leaves behind
Bleach would probably do the same thing, but it would be more harsh

I sometimes use the Affresh or Finish cleaner, but usually I just run it empty with a 1/2 cup or so of vinegar tossed in the bottom. We have had issues with our DW having a smell since we bought it and we finally figured out that the installer we used did not install the drain hose correctly. We have fixed that as of last weekend and are hoping that solves our problem

If it’s hard water mineral build up that looks like dirt or white/scaly, put a couple shallow bowls of white vinegar upright in the top rack and one balanced on the bottom rack if possible, and run the dishwasher without soap.
I’ve used it occasionally for years and different repair guys have mentioned it. One asked if I used it since this area has such hard water but the stainless steel on our very old dw at the time was shiny.
It also removes cloudiness on drinking glasses. Put them in the dw, add a shallow bowl or two of vinegar and run without soap.

To those who use bleach in their dishwasher, this is not recommended if it has a stainless inside.

We've used both the Afresh and Finish cleaners and they have been great. I also make sure to pull out and clean the filter every month or so. A lot of people don't realize their machine has a filter that needs to be cleaned and it gets gross sometimes.

I have weird well water. I can get rust stains and other 'gunk'. Best thing: Iron Out. I use it in my washing machine (also to soak whites to get them back to WHITE), in my toilets (I put some in the tank and some in the bowl and let it set for a while) and in my dishwasher. It's a powder and I can find it at WalMart in the Plumbing area. Sometimes in the Laundry area also.

This is what we use. We have hard water and it works great. We use the washing machine one as well. Lemi Shine Natural Dishwasher Cleaner - Dishwasher Cleaner and Deodorizer Powered by Citric Acid and a Natural Fresh Lemon Scent (8 Count) a.co/d/4D0Venn

My repair guy recommends getting citric acid and run it in the detergent cup through a cycle. It’s cheap.

Thank you for this topic. I didn’t know I had a filter in there. I cleaned it out today and am now running a cleaning cycle with affresh.

There is also a filter in the front of many washing machines to clean out
